For the random event reward, see zombie outfit. For the guardian that used to appear while burying bones, see Zombie (random event). For the zombies that appear while Dungeoneering, see Zombie (Daemonheim).

Zombies are very common monsters in RuneScape, appearing in several different locations. They have the largest variety of combat levels of all monsters in RuneScape, and are followed closely by skeletons. Even in Daemonheim, these zombies can have levels equal to goblins, or levels as high as those of hellhounds or even black demons.

Players may kill zombies to obtain the rare Champion scroll (zombie) in order to fight the Zombie Champion in the Champion's Challenge activity.

Oddly, if you look through the fence at the armoured zombies area you can see a Level-85 Zombie that is not labeled as an armoured zombie.

Zombies generally have a low defence for their combat level, and are notably weak to fire spells.

Zombie can refer to the following:

LocationsEdit

Location by combat levelEdit

Note: This table may be incomplete, as zombies appear in very many places. Some locations are in members-only areas, require quests to enter, require the ability to enter a guild, etc., so consider checking the location's description before going there to hunt zombies. Additionally, the Evolution of Combat update has changed the combat levels of many zombie spawns, so the list may need an update.

Lair of Tarn Razorlor (dungeon)

Many zombie locations are far from banks. For players wishing to slay zombies and bank their drops, consider the following:

  • Low-level zombies
  • Medium-level zombies
    • The Lair of Tarn Razorlor (dungeon) has a banker. However, using this dungeon requires the Haunted Mine quest, The Lair of Tarn Razorlor miniquest, and a 100-coin fee to the banker for each access to the bank.
    • The zombie cave in the Chaos Tunnels is easily accessed from entrance #1 to tunnels and is thus moderately close to the Edgeville bank. However, care should be taken because entrance #1 is in low-level Wilderness and also enters the cave with rather dangerous Gargoyles. Also, the tunnels are a multicombat area, and aggressive Skeletons in the cave with the zombies may interfere with zombie hunting.
  • High-level undead ones
    • Level 68 and 73 undead ones are by the entrance to Shilo Village, which is quite near the bank in the village. However, the Shilo Village quest is required for access to the village. Undead ones count as zombies for slayer tasks. When killed, the undead ones emit a 'green thick mist' that chokes you, doing some minor damage for a couple seconds. This mist is not poison, so anti-poison has no effect. The net effect is that players will take some extra damage killing these undead ones.
  • Varies (in Daemonheim)

Also, player looking for good drops from zombies should instead consider slaying armoured zombies in the Chaos Temple Dungeon.

Champions' ChallengeEdit

Zombies are one of the 'races' who have a lesser champion in the Champions' Challenge activity. To fight the Zombie Champion, the player must kill zombies until one drops a Champion's scroll, a very rare drop.

It should be noted that whilst undead ones count towards a zombie slayer task, they do not drop Champion's scrolls.

DropsEdit

Note: The level 18 zombies in the Edgeville Dungeon near Vannaka only drop bones and nothing else. Level 18 zombies elsewhere have regular drops.

Rare drop table dropsEdit

This monster drops items from the rare drop table.
The ring of wealth improves the chances if equipped but is not required to access the table.

TriviaEdit

  • During the 2010 Halloween event, if a player went to the ruins in the Clan Wars free-for-all arena, there was a huge horde of zombies that spawned there. Those zombies would not give exp if killed.
  • A zombie bone, which is different from the usual bones dropped by zombies, is a rare drop after completion of the first part of the Rag and Bone Man quest. It is one of the items in the wish list for the second part of the quest. This bone cannot be buried.
  • Zombies have more graphical diversity (different-looking versions) than any other creature in the game.
  • Unlike other zombies, the zombie in the bridge event during Temple Trekking does not drop bones of any kind and has the examine, "I wonder if he'd let me borrow his hatchet?" It also has a guaranteed drop of a bronze hatchet, which can be used to complete the event.
  • One of the various examines for a zombie is "Could his name be 'Lurch'?" This is a reference to the butler in The Addams Family, Lurch.
  • Various zombie combat animations were reworked on 9 November 2009.
  • During the quest, Defender Of Varrock, when zombies attacked Varrock, one of them would be non-aggressive to you even though other zombies were aggressive to you. This was a bug and fixed by Jagex during September 2009.
  • Note that zombies in the Defender Of Varrock Quest and the armoured zombies in the base of Wilderness do drop Champion Scrolls as well.
  • An update on 12 April 2010 made the sound of the zombies when they get hit much deeper than previously.
  • Zombies drop fishing bait commonly, because it is revealed in Let Them Eat Pie and Recipe for Disaster that fishing bait is actually maggots, which makes sense since maggots should be on a rotting corpse.
  • Zombies were originally blue/cyan coloured, this pre-update version can still be seen in the Zombie Walk and Zombie Dance emotes.
  • Prior to the release of the Evolution of Combat, players could deal extra damage using the Crumble undead spell. This spell was removed with the release of the Evolution of Combat.
  • Zombies, particularly the ones found in Daemonheim , appear to have very low magic resistance. For this reason, it is advised to safespot the high-levelled ones in favour of meleeing them in order to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
