Yak

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

This article is about the monster. For methods on fighting the Yak and managing its drops, see Yak/Strategies. For the Summoning familiar, see Pack yak.

Yaks live just outside the gates of Neitiznot, in a pen not far from the Neitiznot docks, where players can go to and from Rellekka by talking to Maria Gunnars. Players are not required to complete the entire quest Fremennik Isles to go to this island. Players are only required to talk to King Gjuki Sorvott IV, and gain access to Neitiznot. Due to having high Hitpoints for their combat level, they are popular among players for combat training. In terms of low level monsters with high hitpoints, Yaks are comparable to other training monsters such as the Rock Crabs and Experiments. The 100 percent yak-hide and hair drops represent a potential of 57 Crafting experience. A bank, spinning wheel, and tanner are nearby. This all results in many players training there, however, yaks do respawn very quickly.

Note that when the Raw yak meat is cooked, it turns into regular meat.

[edit] Trivia

  • If players use any item on a yak, a message will appear saying "The cow doesn't want that."
  • On RuneScape, Yaks say "Moo". In German worlds, they say "Muh". In French Worlds, they say "Meuh".
  • Yaks drop Yak Hair, which can be used to make ropes.
  • Yaks are like the members' version of their cousins the cow, which also say "Moo" and have 100% drops: cowhide, raw beef, and bones.
  • When the isle of Neitiznot was originally released, yaks would always attack a player that had just killed a yak. This was changed shortly after to prevent players training away from their computers.
  • While using the instant respawn bug after release, it was possible to "pull" the monster outside of its natural spawn, upstairs or almost to the neighbour isle.
  • The respawn time is about 3-5 seconds, so at least one yak is almost always alive.
