The witchwood icon is a piece of Slayer equipment used to protect the wearer from the screams of cave horrors found in the Mos Le'Harmless Caves. Without it, cave horrors can damage the player for 10% of their total health, although it does not lower stats. The icon is worn around the neck in the neckwear slot and requires a Slayer level of 35 to equip, although players must have 58 Slayer to be able to hit cave horrors. The icon is NOT required to fight jungle horrors. It can be purchased from any Slayer Master for 900 coins but cannot be traded with other players. The Slayer Masters created these from witchwood trees, an extinct species of tree that once grew in Gielinor.
Although this is not recommended, a player can use ranged or a halberd on the cave horrors without the witchwood icon and instead wear stat-boosting neckwear. Since cave horrors are aggressive, another cave horror may attack you. With some concentration, it is possible to quickly switch to a witchwood icon when another one attacks you. However, if using melee, a witchwood icon is a must.
