Lotsofweapons

Artwork of some standard RuneScape weapons.

Weapons are wieldable items that a player can use to inflict damage in combat. Main-hand weapons are wielded in the right hand, while off-hand weapons and shields are held in the left hd. To-handed wapons are held in both hands, thus preventing the use of a off-hand weapon or shield. Ithe case of stackable thrown weapons, multiples of the same thrown weapon may be equipped in the weapon slot at once.

Players have the option of sheathing or keeping their weapons unsheathe at all times. This only affects the character's pearance, while out of combat. Sheathed weapons will appear either at the character's waist or back. While the character is in the sheathe stance, the player will display their total skill level. The player will display r combat level while the weapons are unsheathed.

Weapon damage

Weapons of the same tier or level (requirement) should offer more or less entical weapodamage output, unless it is a special weapon used in speciasituations. For example: Fragment bolts when used against the NPCs within the Monastery of Ascension; or the Crimson Balmung when used against i.e.: Dagannoths and Wallasalkis.

Dual wielded and Two-handed weapons should deal 50% more damage than their one-hand. This is not always more advantageous as one-handed combat with a shield enables better protection for the player.

Melee Weapons

These weapons are more commonly used than the other weapons available, because they do not require ammunition to use, unlike most Magic or Ranged weapons. Most types of basic weapons come in eight different kinds of metal.

Types

Melee weapons fit into many general categories. No type is superior to others, they vary in attack style, and speed/damage. In general, weapons of thsame tier (eg steel) have the same damage per second ratio, with two handed weapons dealing approximately 50% more damage per second.

Weapon Speed Type Availability Handedness Notes
Dagger Fastest Stab weakness icon Stab F2P Main/Off Hand The fastest and generally the cheapest of all melee weapons. It is the first weapon that players can smith upon gaining access to a new metal.
Hatchet Fast Slash weakness icon Slash F2P Main Hand Intended for Woodcutting. It is not recommnded to use either Hatchets or Pickaxes as weapo, as their damage-per-second is halved relative to other weapons of heir level.
Pickaxe Average Crush weakness icon Crush F2P Main Hand Intended for Mining. It is not recommended to use either Hatchets or Pickas as weapons, as their damage-r-second is halved relative to other weapons of their level.
Sword Fast Stab weakness icon Stab F2P Main/Off Hand Able to hit highpeed. It is not too commonly seen as a result.
Mace Fastest Crush weakness icon Crush F2P Main/Off Hand Equally as fast as a dagger. However, maces are unique among other weapons of a given metal in that the carry a prayer bonus which makes them useful for those who make heavy use of Prayer.
Scimitar Fastest Slash weakness icon Slash F2P Main/Off Hand A very popular weapon that can hit just as fast as a mace or dagger. Scimitars are, however, generally more expensive than the dagger and do not carry the mace's prayer bonus.
Longsword Fast Slash weakness icon Slash F2P Main/Off Hand Slower than scimitars, maces, and daggers, but can deal the same damage per hit as a shortsword of the same metal type, except with slashing impact instead of stabbing. Although its speed is slightly slower than scimitars, its extra damage makes it as suitable as a scimitar.
Warhammer Average Crush weakness icon Crush F2P Main/Off Hand A powerful weapon that sacrifices speed for damage per hit. It is not commonly used because of its low speed.
Battleaxe Average Slash weakness icon Slash F2P Main/Off Hand Identical to a warhammer of the same metal type, except it causes slashing impact instead of crushing.
Two-handed sword Average Slash weakness icon Slash F2P Two-Handed One of the most powerful basic weapons, but it sacrifices both speed and the ability to be used with the offhand slot, as its name suggests. However, it can be used with two-handed abilities, many of which can cause large amounts of damage.
Halberd Average Slash weakness icon Slash P2P Two-Handed This two-handed members-only weapon is equally strong (and slow) as a two-handed sword. It has the unique ability to reach over small obstacles (such as tables, fences etc.)
Spear Average Stab weakness icon Stab F2P (inside DaemonheimP2P(outside Daemonheim) Two-Handed This two-handed members-only weapon is the stabbing equivalent of a two-handed sword.
Hasta Fast Stab weakness icon Stab P2P Main Hand This weapon is identical to the shortsword in every way, except that it does not have offhand equivalents.
Claws Fastest Slash weakness icon Slash P2P Main/Off Hand A members-only slashing weapon that is similar to the scimitar, but has an added bonus to Melee Critical hit chance.
Maul Average/Slow Crush weakness icon Crush F2P (inside Daemonheim
P2P (outside Daemonheim)
Two-Handed These powerful two-handed weapons mainly appear in Daemonheim and follow a standard scale. Outside of Daemonheim, however, they do not follow the standard metal scale (Bronze-Dragon). You usually get them either in granite or obsidian. A new type is the Chaotic Maul, a reward from Dungeoneering.
Whip Fastest Slash weakness icon Slash P2P Main Hand The whip is an uncommon weapon type that is functionally similar to a scimitar, in that it hits low for its level, but quickly to compensate for the relatively low hits. The most notable whip is the Abyssal whip, a level 70 weapon.
Rapier Fast Stab weakness icon Stab F2P Main/Off Hand Rapiers are primarily found in Daemonheim, though players can access other rapiers such as the Chaotic rapier outside of Daemonheim. They are identical to shortswords in every aspect.

Melee weapons are generally based on the attack stat, with some exceptions. Many weapons require multiple stats.

Ranged Weapons

Ranged weapons are weapons players use to attack from a distance, these include bows, crossbows, and even throwing knives.

Bows use arrows as ammunition. Shieldbows have a lower damage bonus, but they allow the use of shield abilities and have a slightly longer attack range. Composite bows are identical to shieldbows, but they have an even longer attack range. Bows that do not use ammunition generally have a higher damage bonus to compensate.
