The Void Knight ranger helmet (also known as Void ranger helm) is a member's only piece of Void Knight equipment reward in the Pest Control mini game. It can be bought from a Void Knight for 200 commendation points, although a player must have at least 42 Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Ranged, and Magic, along with 22 Prayer to buy and wear one. The ranger helm grants the player a +10% bonus towards accuracy and damage, if the player is wearing the rest of the Void Knight equipment. However, the Void Knight mace is not required for the bonus.
This item was added in the 17 July 2007 Pest Control update.
[edit] Effectiveness
As some players find it more effective to wear full black dragonhide armour than a full set of Void Knight armour, due to the high ranged accuracy bonus, this item is not frequently bought. However, those who do buy it can see a higher max hit and a higher average hit. For example, with 75 Ranged one can hit a maximum hit of 18 with full black dragonhide using a crystal bow, while with Void Knight range the max hit is 21. This allows players with low ranged levels hit surprisingly high.
Some may say it's even better than the Armadyl armour because of its higher hits, and is used for prayer ranging (to greatly increase damage) more often than Armadyl armour. However, the massive loss of accuracy may be a serious problem against other players in Barrows armour with an obsidian or a granite shield where accuracy is needed. The increase in damage can be considered as a great boost for training, since one would not lose as many arrows as with dragonhide armour.
However, unlike either Armadyl or black dragonhide armour, it does not reduce Magic bonus. This allows for a safe retreat with binding spells, if needed. It may be considered an excellent hybrid armour. The advantage of using Void Knight armour is not only its higher maximum hit, moderate accuracy, or all-around defence, but the ease of being able to switch helmets with the set to get a different bonus. For example, a Void ranger switches to a Void mage by wearing the Void mage helm for a quick and simple magic bonus, then casting Ice Burst magic spell on a foe wearing thick armour. This works especially well in minigames such as Fist of Guthix where a lot of running is involved.

[edit] Trivia
While Jagex states that the damage boost is 10%, observation shows that the boost is around 20% to work in the maximum hit formula.
