[edit] spirit of the law, or letter of the law?
Hey, I notice you have really good insight to things on this wiki, and would value your thoughts on this subject. On the article Trade limit there is a section telling players how to work around the limit, which I feel really goes against the spirit of the rules. There is a discussion on that articles talk page, but it could really use a few more voices. --Degenret01 13:52, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Hey
Hey, I appreciate you being the only neutral party in this whole thing. I really appreciate how you haven't jumped off the handle at me so to speak like Atlandy and Christine have. Truthfully, I think Atlandy gets pleasure out of posting so called "facts" about me and how I've apparently been banned from other sites and such, and also that Christine is abit stuck-up sometimes. You and Chiafriend12, you both have stayed neutral and I respect and thank you for that.
If Atlandy can't take the fact that I had a change of heart after thinking about what I did and regretting it all, then he's got some problems. Same goes for Christine.
As for Earthere, his comments of my cockiness, and then how my tone changes from post to post is complete grade A bull. I try to sound as professional as possible. It's just who I am. But apparently I'm a cocky fool who's full of myself.
Anywhoo, I've kind of strayed off the path here. I thank you for your neutrality in this70.49.204.107 00:59, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Please dont worry
While I understand your concern, I have never flamed anyone in my year plus at the wiki. I was offering Total some alternatives and other avenues to express himself. I enjoy his banter and candid wit and wanted to make sure that all of the newer wikians saw, after someone disagreeing with him, how bigoted and downright mean he can be. Call it "baiting",if you want, but better to see his true colours before everybody welcomes him back with open arms. Thank yyou for your concerns thoughCheers! Atlandy 14:19, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. I just don't want to see this episode kill the project is all.... and I've seen that kind of reaction from other wikis in the past. --Robert Horning 14:21, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- I am an adult, and editing passes the time for me. Like you, I do not want one person to ruin everything we worked on by using racial slurs and scaring people away. I was here when he was in the past, and his hateful, bigoted, overly sexual remarks made many people mad and others quit. I would hate to lose so many dedicated editors because of one person

If you look at what Total said, and what I said, I've not done anything he accused me of. I did nothing to "fly off the handle." I was fine this time around. I did nothing wrong. If you wanted me to keep up with what I've done in the past, I'm sure I would've deserved a block for personal attacks. I don't understand the message you left me, as you didn't really say anything in it. What were you trying to tell me, exactly? Christine 15:45, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Also, please don't remove discussions from my talk page, no matter how senseless they may sound. I nearly didn't see the message because you reverted it then edited my page, therefore I did not see his contribution, and how would you know if I wanted to answer him or not? I'm sure you know about RuneScape:Don't delete discussions. Christine 15:45, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- It was still my page, and I didn't see anything wrong with the comment that was left there. The other comments were made afterwards, and there wasn't anything offensive in that one. That guy PMed me in-game before the whole Total Rune blowout, and I know he's not associated with him at all. You still haven't explained your message. [edit] Level 99 skills
Hmm, looking through a few different revisions in the History, I noticed that Zezima's name was among the ones that I changed, but looking at it today, the name was Zonghui. I haven't any references other than looking at some history of the page. upon further investigation, Zonghui and Zezima have both had their names for all CB skill 99, and seems zezima was prominent in 99 atk, str, and hp. If it is incorrect, feel free to revert it, I was just putting it back to what I had seen before.

[edit] Template:DateDiff
I've just created Template:DateDiff to calculate the date/time difference between two different dates. This template could prove to be useful in the future, especially where dates need to be compared.
Some uses I can think of:
- Displaying age (in days).
- Displaying period between 2 dates (days/months/years) - months and years can be calculated with simple Math formulae.
- Displaying number of days since the GE price was updated - I'm going to implement this in Template:ExchangeItem.
I don't know if this template already exists in this wiki, but I've already searched and didn't find anything similar. If it exists, please let me know.

[edit] Edit intro for Exchange pages
I hope I didn't do any damage moving GEMW\Edithelp to Template:ExchangeItemHelp. I would like to add that when users clicked "edit this page" directly on an Exchange page, this "editintro" does not appear. To append the link to the "editintro" this, I've come up with a JavaScript code that could be added to Mediawiki:Common.js. I haven't tested it, but I think it should work. The code is as follows:-
addOnloadHook(function() {
if (wgCanonicalNamespace == "Exchange" && document.getElementById('ca-edit')) {
var editLinks = document.getElementById('ca-edit').getElementsByTagName('a')
if (editLinks.length > 0) {
editLinks[0].href += '&editintro=Template:GEPriceUpdateGuide'
}
}
});
This will add the "editintro" link to the "edit this page" page, eliminating the need of having <!-- Comments -->. az talk 16:46, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Profitable High Alchemy
FYI, I've updated the profitable high alchemy table layout.
The only way I could do it was to use the 'surrogate' template method of the DPL. By using the 'suffix' of "/HighAlchTable" means that the template for formatting the rows becomes Template:ExchangeItem/HighAlchTable. The overall table is in Template:Profitable High Alchemy so it can be included in other places (including user pages).
What I have noticed is that Jagex has not completely removed lower limits, but have dropped them to 400 coins below the high alch value. This makes it easier spotting some "suspicious" high alch values that are close or above the current value by looking at the live GE to see if there is a hard limit 400 coins below the claimed high alch value (where hard limits are identified by market-min < 5%).
I did notice that the Template:ExcgDefault is currently using Template:Natprice, which is 'hard coded' to 269 at the moment. I think this was changed to avoid circular dependancies. Do you know if the bot that updates the GE prices could also update Template:Natprice as a special case, or do we just need to periodically update it manually ourselves?

[edit] Re:Armour data etc. etc.
I realize that it may not be the most crucial project the Wiki could begin, but I firmly believe that the benefits of greatly reduced work in creating armour set pages would justify it, especially when much of the work can be done by bots. Almost every single equipable item has an infobox. That infobox has a rigid structure that can be easily interpreted by a bot. Quarenon already has a script that interprets the data from infoboxes for use in the compare tool, so starting with that script its just one step to pasting it somewhere. I really see little actual work from wiki editors. While it may not be useful apart from pages like Morrigan's Equipment or Saradomin armour set, it would be a great tool for users who want to build armour sets for personal use. Not only that, but once we have every item's stat in a fixed and formal database, we could make a table that lists every platebody in the game and sorts them by stats or something like that. Equipment is a huge part of the game, and stats make the equipment what it is. Although the applications might not be readily apparent right now, such a database would make any kind of project involving stats really easy. Psycho Robot Talk

Hi, Robert,
I'm trying to update the table on the Moon Clan Fine Clothes, page but the Moonclan armour isn't available on the GE and so seems to mess up the table. You can see the table here: User:Horsehead/Article, at top. Am I doing something wrong? Does the table need to be tweaked? Should I be using another table? Thanks for your help. Horsehead Talk 12:59, October 11, 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting.... I certainly didn't anticipate this happening, where an NPC shop would sell something that is untradable. Usually such items are a one-time item obtained through special means or via a quest type action.
- We have two options available, and I'm not really sure which is better: Creating exchange item pages for these kind of items that lists the trade price as N/A or something similar, or creating a new template structure that applies to shops of this nature. I suppose we could also simply just construct a unique table just for this shop, too.
- Hmmm.... let me thing about this one. --Robert Horning 13:10, October 11, 2009 (UTC)
- I'd prefer to stick with the existing template, as that can be updated to reflect changes across all shops, but we do need some alternative for now. I updated your sandbox page with a suggested alternative table you can use for now. This at least copes with this immediate article, but we should be looking for a more general solution to similar kinds of shops. I'll give that some more thought on how we can approach this issue, and perhaps take the issue up to the larger community. --Robert Horning 14:13, October 11, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Forum:Inflation Mesurement
After reading Forum:Inflation Mesurement, I wanted to ask you something about the RS economy. Forgive my incompetence/ignorance if I'm wrong in the following statements as I only took one paper in basic economics.
Inflation, as far as I know, is a rise of the prices of items/services/etc. in an economy over a duration of time. When the price of an item increases, the purchasing ability of the currency drops and we end up buying less with the same amount of currency. For example, yesterday the price of item A was 4 coins, so with 100 coins, I could buy 25 items. Today, the price increases to 5 coins, so I can only buy 20 items. With the same amount of money I end up buying less items, because the price of item A has increased/inflated.
To measure inflation, generally the price index is used (i.e. our Common Trade Index). For example, comparing last year's CTI (110) and this year's CTI (165, as of 1 November), the "annual" percentage rate inflation "throughout" 2009 is: (165-110)/110 = 50%.
And since the gold coin is a currency and not an item, how do you measure the inflation of the gold coin? (The user states that the gold coin has inflated by 6% since last year.) And since RS only uses gold coins as the trading currency, could we measure the inflation/deflation of the gold coin?
Any thoughts? az talk 08:24, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Adam Smith Clan
User:Adam Smith Clan and it's associated talk page and subpages have been moved to User:Robert Horning/Adam Smith Clan, as the user was a sockpuppet, although you never used it abusively. If you don't think this is right, it has been done before, it's simply a security measurement. I hope you don't mind. —
Enigma Get Enigma Points! 14:44, November 10, 2009 (UTC)
- In fairness, there is nothing wrong with having multiple accounts or even being a sock puppet. The problem comes from using the sock puppet and pretending that it may be another user.... as a means to influence opinion. I don't see the security problem either... unless you believe that the account is somehow going to be compromised and somebody is going to make edits to this wiki using that account without my authorization. To me, the security rationale fails.
- I'm not going to wheel war on this issue, but there is a strong reason for my putting this onto another user page than my own. I don't want to "own" this clan, and I'd like to have a neutral page that doesn't seem dominated by a single user. I'd love to see clans welcome to set up a page on this wiki without having to go to the clans wiki. Yes, I know that this is going against the grain of how things tend to be done here, and this is my way of pushing back. I also wanted to use the GEMW data in some clan-specific projects, which is why I'd like to be associated with this wiki.
- I wish that this action had not occurred, and I will fight to have it changed back.... eventually. It was not done via consensus, nor based upon any policy or approval other than your own whim. At least a simple warning or a request to understand why this was done could have been made first. That this didn't happen, I'm not pleased at all. It was unnecessary. --Robert Horning 15:30, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Resistance to GEMW?
I saw on the clan thread that there was resistance to the GEMW project when you first proposed it... why?? Its a really good idea I think... I simply don't see what problem anyone could have had with it Psycho Robot Talk

- The resistance came from a couple of issues. Mostly, there were several who thought I wouldn't finish a project this huge in order to get it working, or if I didn't keep contributing that it would die and have to be deleted by the admins... making a mess on the wiki. It was a big deal in terms of getting volunteers to help contribute to keeping the prices up to date, but ultimately the player community came though and has been very supportive in the end. Even without bots to automate the price updates, we did a pretty good job of keeping the prices relatively current... give or take about a month between price checks on items not so commonly reviewed.
- Another issue that came up was with the issue of storing GEMW data in templates to be used elsewhere. This was such a strange idea that some users, particularly admins, simply didn't even know what to make of it. Some felt that this data should be simply left on individual item pages, and certainly there were many that thought this should be named as "Templates" in the template namespace. Apparently the issue of namespaces has come up again, causing even further issues.
- Let's just say that the thought did come through my mind to simply abandon the GEWM and request to delete the whole thing after the first few days of trying to get it going due to the resistance I was receiving. I'm glad I stuck through that initial shock of seeing a project of this nature and remained persistent. --Robert Horning 12:54, November 13, 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Merchanting
Hey. I decided I'm going to have a crack at the art of merchanting, although I am very confused. Some people have said your quite an expert on the topic. What do you think about merchanting, and what are the basics? I have had a read of the Merchanting guide but find it kind of "incomplete" or "confusing". Also, I believe "Flipping" is the best method, so that it the one I am most interesting. You don't have to write an explanation for me if you don't want to; I know you get very busy sometimes! Cheers,

- Thanks for your great guide! I am sure it will come in handy when I am merchanting. It must've taken you some time! What items do you recommend to merchant. I only have ~1m right now. Thanks. Also, take a look at Talk:Upcoming updates, and reply if you want. Cheers,
