Maybe "hate" was a bad word. I guess I dislike it because a signature is what a user identifies themself as, and I think they should be able to identify themselves however they wish. I understand not allowing >2 images, because that may affect others with slow computers. But if Ajr wants to use '-', why not? I mean, when I first saw the sig, I said "Hmm? who is this '-' person?" I commenced to hover over his signature, find out it was him, and then I knew every time I saw his signature that it was he who was signing. I don't know about others, but it's not a problem for me. If it links to the userpage without any mystery/misleading links, and it is in no way intentionally trying to hide the identity of who posted it, I think it's fine. As many have said in discussions about the policy, if you really want to know who posted something, click the signature. --LOL MYSTERY SIG 21:17, November 16, 2010 (UTC)

I just analysed them a bunch and wrote a miniessay on them, but then I noticed that joey got his numbers wrong in the opening paragraph. Loop repeats 150 times, Repeat 99 and Multi 1399. Thus Repeat is more server expensive and repeats less times than Loop.
If repeat were to be increased, I'm not sure how it would affect what resources it would use, so I don't think its wise. Thus repeat isn't really that useful, and repeat and multi should be interchangeable. Loop, as he said, is a lot less server intensive and should stay.
Thus a delete/merge with multi and repeat is okay, as long as all transclusions are updated. Loop should stay, and in case you wondered {{for loop}} is completely different so should also stay. GazLloydAwesomeEvents!99s 15:32, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

I am trying to duplicate the random skill logo effect which appears on the main page on this wiki on a wiki I'm working on. I saw that you did some work on these templates, so I have a question. Do you know why it is that these pictures update on the main page when I wait about 15 seconds and then click the refresh button? It's as if clicking refresh purges the page. When I duplicated this on my wiki, everything works fine except that the images that I used take a very long time to change. The only quick way I can get them to refresh is by manually making the page purge. Please help if you can. Thanks. Joel amosTalkContribs 01:12, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

Hey, is there a link to a comprehensive guide on how a blockee, sysop and the community should react and what actions they should take should someone want an unblock?
Like, does the "Blockee" just place the unblock template on their page, which adds the category, then a sysop makes a decision?
I'm just curious, I may have a decent proposal for the YG if the unblocking system works the way I think it works.
So, you're telling me that if someone finds themselves blocked, they can't refute their own block? Especially if we are talking about infinite/long term blocks? Rhys Talk - Livestream 08:27, January 27, 2011 (UTC)
Just curious, I was thinking of making some sort of RfU proposal, where specific accounts, under their own request, would be able to try and refute their block. Copyright status of RuneScape videos on YouTube Edit
Hi Psycho,
I was wondering whether or not RuneScape videos on YouTube (like the ones you blocked Parsonsda for copying) could even be copyrighted. I'm not exactly versed in copyright law, so forgive me if I go off on a tangent. The first thing I think we should consider is fair use. The purpose and character is a bit muddled because of the commercial nature of Wikia, but it could also be said that its purpose was enrichment, as Parsons has no reason to upload the clips for the purpose of profitability. The nature of the copied work is that it's a clip of RuneScape, and Jagex can claim any and all clips of RuneScape. The substantiality and amount is approximately 9 seconds per clip, out of three videos which ranged from one to three minutes. I don't see any effect on the work's value, either.
The other thing to consider is that the uploader of the YouTube videos have no rights over the clips, just as the RuneScape Wiki has no rights over images that are used elsewhere. Jagex holds all copyrights on any pictures (moving or not) of RuneScape, so we can't really assume that the clip is copyrighted by the uploader.
I'm not sure if you blocked Parsonsda for the actual infringement, or for somehow breaking RS:IMP. While it does say "Nearly all images uploaded to the Wiki should be taken by the uploader themselves in the RuneScape game client", there are at least four other files on the wiki that are taken from YouTube videos, without any disastrous consequences. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 19:51, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
Even if Youtube videos are copyrightable, the RuneScape ones very likely are not. The amount of work put into them is not a factor, as Jagex has shown in shutting down numerous videos. I think it's a bit of a stretch to consider YouTube a fansite, especially considering the clips we already have "stolen" from them. There are enough overt uses of Youtube videos that blocking Parsons for doing the exact same thing seems a bit much. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 20:20, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
If I'm not mistaken, Parsons got permission for at least one of the videos. My point is not that the rule was not there, but that it had become so common to use animations and pictures from YouTube that no one, especially Parsonsda, took issue with it. I'm not trying to defend him, I'm simply saying that such a long block for such a commonplace occurrence seems unusual. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 21:12, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
I do believe when he said "Castle Wars" he meant the player Castle Wars, who uploaded the third video. I have no idea how many animations we have from YouTube, but I thought of three off the top of my head, plus a couple of stills. I imagine there are many more than that. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 21:32, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
My understanding was that Parsonsda talked to him ingame. He showed me this picture. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 23:44, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
He says that his "friend" sent him the clips on his school e-mail which apparently he...can't access for two weeks. Sounds unlikely to pan out and another "my cousin at Jagex" type thing, but we'll see. If he's lying about the whole thing I have no problem seeing him banned for a while. But you must by now realize that his attention span doesn't quite reach more than a year. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 00:11, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
Looks like we got retroactive permission from the uploader of video one, and the uploader of video two, while being un-messageable on YouTube, seems to have an account on the wiki. What do you make of this? It's Cook's afterbirth day! 19:15, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
I thought that Omustardo was Castle Wars, or at least took the video of him. The Daemonheim video was the one created by a user on the wiki. The larger issue is that I don't think your logic in blocking him was sound: the idea of equating YouTube to a fansite is a bit outrageous, especially considering that it was the status quo for the past year to allow them. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 21:52, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
The popularity of the block is not what I'm worried about - But you have to realize that the agreement was reached more than a year ago, and it is very unclear whether or not what Parsons did even violated the images and media policy. I don't like Parsons any more than the next guy and he's been quite rude to me at times, but we can't just look for an out to block someone. As for what Liquid said, you can hardly use that as reasoning to block someone, even if he did agree to it. It's an incredibly weak argument and I very, very much doubt that anyone at all would support a six month block for "not accepting help". It's Cook's afterbirth day! 23:40, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
I really have no idea. I assumed that the Parsonsda block thread from last April-May was mostly about the youtube videos, but upon further review that doesn't seem to be the case. Perhaps we should have a thread to decide if we allow youtube clips? That still leaves the issue of Parsons's block, of which we can't use a later consensus as grounds to keep. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 01:20, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
I think the block and the entire thread was based on the (apparently false) premise that we have a policy against uploading clips from YouTube. While your intent when starting the thread may have been for the most part about YouTube, you can tell that the discussion went off in a completely separate direction to the point where you can hardly say that that thread gave consensus against copying YouTube; it ended up being about honesty, breaking agreements and Parsons's lack of coherence. In fact, the majority of the thread ended up being about discussion of the punishment with comparatively little debate over the merits of the reasoning. Looking at it a year later, I honestly cannot see anything on the Images and media policy that would disallow the use of YouTube clips, unless you count YouTube as a fansite, which I don't think holds much water. Considering the examples I gave of other YouTube clips and images (which were not scrutinized by anyone whatsoever), I think we can safely say that no one else who saw them considered them to be against policy. I'm also not trying to defend Parsons, but when there's such a consequence for something that seems fairly ordinary, I like to explore what's going on. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 08:30, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
I don't think that anyone read the policy made the connection that it didn't include YouTube, especially someone like Parsonsda. I think that everyone just assumed that taking such content was lawful. That being said, do you think we should amend the policy to redact the prefix "fan"? I also don't see why we have to remove the agreement he made, although the wording and the intent will have to be adjusted. If he knowingly violates a policy we can certainly block him (although I do think that six months is rather severe), but the YouTube videos don't seem to be a violation. That thread really came down him lying more than the actual infractions that took place. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 20:27, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Now that I think about it, it may be a good idea to have Parsons sign a new contract when he's unblocked, mostly to...refresh his memory a bit. It's Cook's afterbirth day! 20:29, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Ohai Mr Robot. I have been reading and rereading all this fun stuff (amazing so much work for sysops can be generated by one user right?) and I think at this time the block is unfair, unless he lied some where and we have proof. I am not calling you wrong or anything, I clearly see why you issued the block. But as you say, the issue has much mud on it making it a bit hard to see all aspects at once. If not, then I think we need to proceed with unblocking him, and amending our policy on YT vids so it is clearly laid out. Does this work for you?--Degenret01 10:17, May 15, 2011 (UTC)

true yes, it is mainly not needed for npc that own shop or the like but it is very helpfull to have in quests,
i really cant find a suitable page atm but i did run cross lots of pages for example where it said during a quest to talk to a certain npc but i couldnt find that npc anywhere unless i had to run all over the place looking for one.
if im not mistaken it was about finding a quest npc in the dwarven city.
i had no idea where to look for i was right clicking every npc to find out the name so that i could talk to it.
so making it easier for people to add wher specific quets npc that are rarely talked to would be a decent idea.

Rerolling voyages will take away from your total voyages for the day, so it is not a good idea if you find that you can easily complete all voayges. However, if you find yourself with many remaining voyages at the turnover of voyages, it may be benificial to reroll voyages where you can't get an acceptable success percentage.
