Seeing the trend developing in "rares," I held on to my two Disks of Returning, and bought 20 Santa hats at 20k ea the day they came out (or the day after, more likely). Heya, I normally leave this on any new sysop's page...


  • Do keep an eye on recent changes, watching for potential vandalism attacks
  • If you are going to block someone, please show restraint - a lot of people use shared IP addresses, so a block for a day is normally best. Vandals get bored easily, but we need contributors from everywhere =)
  • Add the CVU page to your watchlist. If another non-sysop notices vandalism, and updates that page, you should see it and deal appropriately with whoever's causing the damage.
  • Finally, keep up the good work - we still need lots of content!! And congratulations again on being sysoped.

Oh I get it. I guess it is kind of better to separate the summary from the template but that's the reason we made it, to make it different from the "userinfo" template for RfA. How about we put the summary in the template like above? But then you're right, it wouldn't be right. Hmmm... how about just keeping the vandalized pages thing so it shows that. Maybe it could say... 
(name and all at beginning) has been vandalizing (Page would equal {{{2}}})

With your permission, I have began working on an Events page. This page will be used to suppliment the forums, and to allow all wikians to post their own events that they are hosting. Hopefully this will allow wikians to "get together" in game easier and allow new users to see firsthand the strong communtiy that we have at the Wiki. Also, this will try and bring the community together by building friendships in game. When complete, we can discuss it being linked on the main page to draw new wikians towards it. [edit] PointyBot & SVG Images

I think SVG charts will get quite complicated quite quickly. The nice thing about Excel is that is automatically scales axes to fit the data - party hats have a scale in hundreds of millions, willow logs have a scale in tens, and some charts don't even start at zero. The down-side is, of course, you have to have Excel installed which I don't know how many home users will have. I'm not against the idea, and it *would* be quite nice to be able to dynamically size the images, but I think it will turn out to be quite a lot more work than it looks on the surface, so I'm kind of hesitant to think too deeply about it at the moment... Indeed, it is highly uncalled for. So I don't know how to do most of the stuff on this site. I limit my contributions to what I am able to do. If my not knowing how to use a template properly is going to bother you that much would it preferable that I don't list vandals on the CVU page? Should I just let someone else report them instead? Hey, I was being overly sensitive before. But now I finally understand how you want vandals IPs left, so some good has come of this :) I have just seen way too many snarky smug comments left, and all too often by people who are not regular users but the sysops or admins or whatever your all called. And it built up in me because it seems that some people think knowing comps is everything. And that bugged hell out of me because I'm pretty sure I can clear a jam in an M16 faster than 98% of Runescape wikians, or diagnose and repair a heater/AC unit, or some other such thing. I've been thinking that the default gray background doesn't really fit that well into the theme...it's too cold when it should be neutral. I think we should introduce some brown into it. I was thinking of changing it like so (for a TOC, anyway):

What does anyone think? I thought that this was one area that needed to be changed, the second being the same colour used in the headers for any given table...I like the black background, but again, I don't think the dark gray headers match the theme. Endasil (Talk) @  05:58, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

I agree and I have changed all #222222 into #181206 , which is now in effect, see if it is okay. Since #181206 should be in the same colour family with the present background colour, #181206 is more harmonious. + XDRAGONAITE + 07:29, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I just wanted to say that i agree with your sentiments and that i personally feel that animated images are overrated at best. I really don't care much for them (dodging jad's attacks would be the only exception i can think of but even then only as a how to). Responding to your first quote: i don't think I explained myself well enough. In the first few months of the Wiki there were basically a few MediaWiki migrants, RS experts, and generally a community that got along together well and held similar opinions. At any rate today's RSW population has changed dramatically from the old. Today's RSW editors have a wide variety of opinions or philosophies if you know what I mean. We have trolls like Total who are just here to vent their frustration; boundless immature I.P.s who really aren't at RSW much other than to say "penis"; generally neutral editors who are just here to help RSW and don't get involved with the community unnecessarily like Robert; contributors who don't really contribute much anymore but keep tabs on the community and begrudge others occasionally; myself and Christine who haven't gotten along for a year and editors are being pulled between us and quitting. My point was that the variety of viewpoints and editing styles has expanded dramatically over the past year or so and that some policies should be revamped do to these changes. Honestly, some policies aren't well written and are filled with loop-holes, but editors appear to use those same policies for simple rationales (Oppose per violations of RS:AEAE). In terms of RS:AEAE it will take a lot of effort to balance how editors really will be equal, because in reality, they aren't. There are technical limitations to what non-sysops can do, what non-registereds can do etc. Does that mean since everyone should be equal, non-sysops can dodge their blocks and continue editing normally (just because sysops would usually unblock themselves but are rarely blocked in the first place)? Imho RS:AEAE was more expository in nature than potentially policy worthy because it, yes, catered to the viewpoint of equality, but it failed to address some loopholes or issues that editors could come across, if my point is clear. And it's very common to see a sysop or regular user casually violate policy. Notice my last block? It was done by a sysop who had previously reverted 3 of my edits, deleted 2 of my pages earlier in the week, and left personal attacks on my talk just before I was blocked. I'm not going to argue with you on the merits of whether or not the attacks were deserved, but several policies were violated in my opinion, though I won't get into that. Nowadays everyone bitches you to hell in RfAs or block logs or whatever if you violate a policy, but they can casually be found violating policy. Seriously. If you don't believe me on this, I can give a very large handful of examples and analysis(sp). Policy should not be as important as people take it for these reasons, and if you find me making a change that you do not like, don't block me for 2 weeks. Read the changes closely. They do reflect our community and the things some of our most experienced users work. No, it wasn't just for disruption. Some of my changes to policy were probably offensive to a few users, but they generally were insightful.

And yes, before you ask, yes, I am bitter. Very bitter. I'm never going to pull a Total Rune/Shadowdancer because my main goal is always to help RSW. I realize that creating a SD style disruption would do more worse than good.

About the bitterness.

Hey, it didn't exactly help that Christine and Total were trolling the hell out of me. Every warning or condescending message came from you, Christine, Atlandy, and Stinko. No one else did it. Frankly, everyone else loved me until one of the IRCeers spread piles of dirt on my name. And Total... I'm pretty sure that's were all of the user page vandalism came from. Getting called a "gay sped", "**** *** noob", "dyslexic" on my user page, getting impersonated can really ruin my day. I was never out to troll or get you guys. Ever. Yeah, the policy changes were out of spite to a small extent, but as you know those weren't done to just piss people off.

Again, for 99% of the time at RSW (before my 3rd failed RfA) I only wanted to get along with the IRCeers. After my 3rd RfA I realized it was better to be myself, and you guys mistook it as grieving over my RfAs and trolling the IRCeers. Yes, IRL I'm a bit of that one guy geeks love to hate. I do typical teenager stuff; I sabotage my next door neighbor's yard (guy was making my life hell at JV football), I will swear and use the word gay, I do cat-call when I feel the need to, I do stuff like that. I tried to mature and hide all of that for a good 9 months on the internet as I want to be a lawyer someday and for that job one really must grow up. If asked I can try to bring the maturity up a notch--no, I never lose self-control contrary to popular belief.

If you read all of this you really deserve a reward or something
