Locking that thread was ridiculous! How in the depths of TzHaar would that turn into a flame war? Flame wars only start because of stupidity. That if you call a user and idiot or an imbecile in the clan chat, I will kick you. The chat is not a place to question users beliefs or to start arguments and as a user with a rank you should help moderate that, not instigate it. I myself believe in Global Warming and I know there is evidence to prove so but just because a user doesn't agree means you can call them names.

Okay, I think you'll notice by now.

I'm not trying to point out that Jek is a copier, or anything, it's just that you can very well guess what his source was. I first recognized the guy in the Third age melee outfit in the video, and thought "I think I've seen that on the Wiki". I went to Third age armour, then saw the other picture from the video. I checked the Party hat pages, and there the last two were.

I think I broke the cardinal rule today, and I actually went too far in saying your opinion was "laughable". It is certainly not representative of my usual reserve. Let me clarify why I think kicking Ruready27 was totally justified. He made two edits to RuneScape:Clan Chat, the effect of which was to replace all the rules with "Ruready27 ownz all", and to replace the name of the RuneScape wiki cc with his own. He also edited the slang dictionary to include the message "Ruready27 is sexy". This was clearly vandalism, and I do believe that it was he who did it, because it mentions his own name in a self-promotional way. Furthermore, rather than revert the edits or even ignore them (as any non-vandal would have done), he then proceeded to come into our cc and try to get as many people as possible to look at his handiwork. It's the attention that vandals thrive on.

I'm not saying he should be banned from the cc or the wiki (any vandal can choose to change their ways, and should have the opportunity to do so), but a temporary kick was totally appropriate in my opinion. I accept that his behaviour was not specifically against any rule, but we cannot possibly list every little thing in the rules. For example, if someone had proposed a week ago that we should have a rule to say that users must not use the cc to promote their vandalous edits, everyone would have said they were crazy, and the rule would never have been approved. This is why people with kicking capabilities are permitted (and required) to exercise their judgement in addition to what is against specific rules listed. Someone else beat me to the kick, but if I had been armed with this information before anyone else kicked him, I would have done it myself. His behaviour is counter-productive to the hard work that so many people have contributed to this wiki, and he should not be welcome in the cc before he reforms. A kick (which is, after all, only temporary) sends a clear message to that effect.

I'm saying this because I know you have contributed a great deal to the wiki yourself, and I do not want there to be any bad blood between long-standing and trusted wiki contributors. Ruready27 cannot be called trusted yet, and (in light of what he did today) he has given himself an uphill struggle if he ever wants to be known as that. But I know that you want what is best for the wiki, and as such your judgement call is just as valid as mine, even if we disagree. Certainly this case represents a grey area, and I think the subsequent (somewhat heated) discussion was disproportionate to the issue. I am normally very much in favour of sticking up for the underdog and questioning whether a kick was really justified, and I should not have been so dismissive of your concerns. I think I was unduly harsh on you, and for that I apologise.
