No, they're not squished up. 190/200px is just the right size, it keeps it from getting to small or too big. Ilyas

[edit] Monobook and Wiki Clan
There was a discussion back in the June or something about changing the monobook settings, and we decided that it was fair that if someone wanted the RuneScape-Like monobook settings, they could set it themselves on their personal monobook instead of set it for EVERYONE else. Also, the wiki clan no longer exists. Ilyas

[edit] Your pictures
I noticed you're uploading new maps, but these are quite low graphical quality IMO... Could you use the PNG format, which is lossless, instead of JPG ?
Patheticcockroach
(Talk) 07:14, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the pictures that were used before you uploaded your versions were in PNG and took only around 200 KB, so I suppose you can achieve the same size, since the versions you upload are a bit smaller (because you remove anything that doesn't belong to the city/region). If your concerns are about the "over 150KB" warning, well, the older versions were "too big" too.

[edit] Main income
I was reading your user page and noticed your message about having no steady income. When I first got my farming to 32, I made money farming ranarr seeds.
Using super compost and magic secateurs (which are gained during the A Fairy Tale Part I quest (you do not have to finish the quest), each herb seed gives an average of 6 herbs per seed (about 10-15% die, but those that survive yeald 5-14 herbs).
The ranarr seeds are currently 40,400gp each on the exchange, and the grimy ranarr sell for 10,400gp each on the exchange. This gives an average profit of around 22,000gp per herb patch. Even taking out cost of runes for teleporting to patches, this is still good profit.
Even if you were to only check all 4 herb patches once a day (pick herbs and planting next seed), you could have a steady income of about 70-80k a day. Note that the profit is average and will vary from day to day depending on seed deaths and yields.
Without the magic secateurs (but still using super compost), the average herb yield is 5.5 per patch, which would give still a profit of around 16,800gp per herb patch.
Thought I'd just share, just in case you were looking for a steady income.

- You can probably do the fairy tale quest, the problem is more likely to be needing to do the Lost City quest that is a required to start the fairy tale one. They will probably be easier when you get to 43 prayer so you can use protect from melee.
Amaurice talk 21:12, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think 43 prayer is really needed for Lost City, since the spirit tree can be easily maged from a safe spot. Just bring decent food for the zombies.

[edit] Re:Bot
I am not experienced in making bots, but I believe it requires some level of programming. Pointy has an active bot, perhaps he will be able to help you more than I can.
Once you get your bot operating successfully, we can have a community discussion about it. If it gains a general consensus, a staff member will be able to give it bot status. Dtm142 00:26, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- The first thing you need to decide is what programming language you're going to use - if you don't have much experience with writing software you might find a bot a bit difficult as a starting project as it can be very fiddly to get exactly right.
- If you're already comfortable with a particualr programming language a good starting resource is Creating a bot. Let me know if you want more information. Pointy 12:25, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Transparency
Actually, I'm just clicking "Random page" and finding non-transparent images.
I'd love to see a bot mark images as transparent automatically, but I didn't know how to do it, so I just resorted to doing it myself. My simple little bots only do a few tasks right now, like categorize jpegs based on their extention, and categorize images for PointyBot. Although I am working on one to revert the combat calculator on the combat level page back to default values, nothing too complex. Good luck with yours. BenTalkContributionsEditcountRfA 07:12, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well, with creating a bot, I recommend going from the framework, Wikipedia's Creating a bot article has a few. I actually use Basic Bot for my bots. I tried to create my first bots from scratch, and it didn't work out very well. Also, use the API rather than trying to get data out of the html code, it's much quicker, and easier. Also, when testing the bot, only run it on one or two edits, shut it down, and then validate those edits. I made the mistake of running nearly 50 edits when I first loaded Nq2hBot2, and all those edits were wrong, and I had to rebuild the bot to remove those edits, and continue its task. I know a little bit of Java, if you're going with that route, and a good amount of PHP, so I could probably help with bots in those areas, and I know Skill has a java based IRC bot, he could probably help you out too. Pointy and wowbagger also have bots, so you could also ask them if you have questions I cant' answer.
BenTalkContributionsEditcountRfA 07:23, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Oops, sorry, didn't think about that. I'm not adding any more for tonight, but if you leave the template, and just upload the transparent images, I can just rollback my edits for you, as I've got the one click rollback button enabled.

[edit] Re:Bots
From what I can tell, you're trying to run PHP from the command line. Basicbot is designed to run from a webserver interface, through a browser. This means you would have to install a web server on your computer as well, then put the files in the server directory, and access them using this link: http://localhost/filename.php.
If you're not comfortable setting up a web server, I can offer you a little hosting solution, as I have a 300mb bot hosting account specifically set up. I'll give you 100mb, far more than enough (Nq2hBots 1-4 only use up about 0.5mb) That way, the files wouldn't need to be on your machine or anything, and you can access it from any computer. BenTalkContributionsEditcountRfA 03:56, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
If you're going to be the only ony using your bot, you can set up a home server quite easily using XAMPP. Or you can install Apache and PHP manually, I made a tutorial for this a while ago.

It looks fine. Maybe some headings could be added in or something to give it some structure, but other than that it's great. Would do it myself but I only have a few minutes on the computer right now. Skill 15:14, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Stronghold of Security Floors
I want to ask how to add transparency to images that are not transparent yet, and also, if the Pages "Vault of War", "Catacomb of Famine" and the other floors of the Stronghold of Security are deleted, because they once had individual pages for each floor of the Stronghold. --Kakashi hatake34 05:52, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Needed?
There was some discussion Quests talk page about using a table. I did notice the changes being done, but think I'll wait to see what it looks like when completed.
It will be a bit squished on small screens, but it might still be more readable than the current page. The only variation would be to use images for the QP and skills rather than words (see the talk page).
I was going to let the editor finish (to avoid edit conflicts) and then maybe try out with images to see if any better.

[edit] Re: Shop image proposal
I think it's a good proposal. What you need to do is start a discussion on the talk page for people to add their supports/opposes/comments, then after a period of time, depending on the voting and comments, it could be made into a policy.

Ive forgotten what the main template page is titled as, the on that has miscellaneous templates and others.Like the one where it says which god you follow in runescape. Also if have any discontinued items. Noob Protector etc. The examples are in my user page, which i have updated. For example: you have the templates in your user page, the boxes that are coloured, say 'this user owns a snowglobe'. oh, and about transparency, i have photoshop and i et the hang of it. --Kakashi hatake34 09:39, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Page moves
When moving pages (such as with Hunt for Surok), please use the "Move" button at the top. Don't just paste the contents to the new page, as the page history and any options set on the old title won't go to the new title. If you can't move the page to the new title because it already exists, ask an admin to delete the title you wish to move to, or place {{d|Make way for move}} on the page you want. I've also reverted your move/redirect, as "Chaos Tunnels: The Hunt for Surok" is the correct name, as mentioned on the main runescape site. --Drummer (speak) 16:19, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Tenti pineapple
Yeah I was trawling recent changes and saw your edits to it so I added in a little more :). It's been a very long time since I did the quest myself, and I think it's had a makeover since then, but if you select the eat option does it actually allow you to eat it? I vaguely remember a message popping up to say that I shouldn't eat it in case it was lost, or something to that effect. I checked Rune Tips' item database, there wasn't much there but it had it listed as 'non-edible' so that backs up my guess.
I'll leave a note on the talk page asking for someone to check it, although talk page messages are not very effective :S, so maybe if you know anyone who's actually doing the quest you could ask them. If not, don't sweat it too much, it's not as though a Tenti pineapple is a hugely important item within the RS world :p.

[edit] Categorising images
Hey, there are lots of images uncategorised, and I wanted to set to work getting them all done, but there seems no way to do it, short of downloading every single one, and re-uploading it, which is a very inefficient way of doing it.
I wanted to know how you are meant to do it please.
I'm not too sure how to check this page, so if you could answer on my talk, that would be great.
Thanks a lot Fizziwig2006 19:05, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Kingdom maps
I looked at the file sizes for the two I remember replacing (Al Kharid and Arandar), and the PNG one for Al Kharid was actually a lot smaller. The Arandar PNG was slightly larger, but I don't think saving 10KB is worth a loss in quality like that. The images are sized down in the infobox on the server side, anyway, so I'm not sure how much of a difference the two formats really makes in terms of loading time. PNG is probably preferable despite its slightly larger size, IMO, but I'd ask a few more people first. Skill 19:39, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] D2H.PNG
You can revert the image to its old state. Then the background must be OR white OR transparent.
But the result is... Its smaller?

[edit] River Dougne
Hey,
In regards to this edit, I was wondering if you'd found anything that verifies that the River was named after the town and not the other way round. I noticed the article a while back and had a hunt for info in the knowledge base about the river, but I couldn't find much. The other main river in RS obviously has a town named after it (Lumbridge -> bridge on the river Lum) and I was wondering if this would be the case for Ardougne too. Regards, Dechaineux Talk 15:11, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

- [1] Those logos? If so, then you can get them right off the God Letters on the Knowledge Base. However, I'm pretty sure Jagex has rules against taking pictures right off their website, so it's probably not allowed.

- Oh, those logos. Those look like they were made just for that site, and I'm not finding them on the RuneScape site with the god pictures, so the safest bet would be to not copy them, and make our own.

- Can't say I'm great with paint etc. but could I suggest that (for Sara and Zammy at least) you might be able to use the detailed view of the symbols that can be found in the GE database: here & here. I'm thinking that even if we do make our own symbols that they aren't going to look that great. The detailed view of the symbols look more professional imo. Not sure what to do about the other gods though.Dechaineux Talk 08:11, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Transparent Logo
If you look, this Image:Suggested new Wiki logo.png|version of the RS Wiki logo is transparent and shadowed. If you like I'll do the shadow transparency to the current version. ~kytti khat 08:20, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that the transparent logo looks a bit better, and would also look nice on the welcome messages put on new user's talk pages because there will be no white border around them.—Bigd56 (talk • contribs) forgot to sign this comment on 03:27, 17 August 2008.
- Now I'm having second thoughts, did I do right to put it in the Yew Grove like I did? Or should I have put it in RS:RFC? I'm thinking it should be classified as wide spread since the logo is on every page and on the welcoming templates, however it is only a single file (or pair). Questioning my own self am i over-thinking this? ~kytti khat 22:02, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Better click here to add a new comment code
I noticed that your click here to add a new comment button has a random textbox to the left of it, so I figured I'd share my method of making a 'click here to add a new comment' link. A similar version can be found on my talk page if you are interested in knowing how it looks on an actual page, but here is the code, slightly modified so that it has the same coloration as your current 'click here to add a new comment' link. Here is the code for it:
<div style="padding: 0.5em; border: 1.5px #A0522D outset; background-color: #A0522D;"><center> '''[http://runescape.wikia.com/index.php?title=User_talk:Bigd56&action=edit§ion=new <font color="#E3B29C">Click here to add a new comment!</font>]'''</center></div>
And this is what it looks like when on your page:
I'm not saying that you HAVE to use this on your talk page, but I just thought I'd share it in case you want to. I suggest you preview how it will look on your talk page. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to make that text link into a button...

- Oh i missed the wikifest too, i've been upside down with a free lance website development project along with crash courses in PHP (luckily i used to do sql 10 years ago so that was just a little bit of dusting off). I swear i'd much rather do graphic development than code (there's a reason i burned out as a software engineer, lol)... ~kytti khat 14:15, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- I wish they were regular courses, it's all learn-on-the-fly to make the code, what i wouldn't give to be back in college and without financial worries... ~kytti khat 14:46, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- One of my favourite ways to find stuff to fix is using the Random page link. However, there were a couple of initiatives in the RS:YG that i was hoping to see the initiators follow through on. The topmost that i felt was an excellent idea was the collaboration of the week idea that Skill put forward (btw i have a hidden agenda to make sure Skill becomes UotM sometime, after all if someone as squirrelly as me can become UotM...) . Another thing i think would really help the wiki is a policy that 1) eliminates the entirely needless rotating worn equipment animations that are entirely excessively predominant and the completely redundant appearance of the same character in the same clothing . The reasons are as follows, many pages are simply edited so the the editor's vanity can be fulfilled to see his/her player avatar in the picture. If you have ever noticed I endeavour to ensure that my avatar is clothed differently and in something hopefully appropriate to whatever the image is pertaining to. (e.g. wielding quest only available trollweiss flowers in the quest cape emote image, or wearing gardening boots in the farming cape emote image). Another one that bothers me is the player dialog boxes that have the players name in red and the "click to continue" in blue. It's rather monotonous since these are constantly seen in game anyway and the players name simply violates the spirit of the ownership of material policy.
- Those are my thoughts, btw welcome back from your wiki break. ~kytti khat 17:08, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- I believe you have access to see formerly deleted files, if so check out this sub-article that i branched from the main just due to the sheer quantity of editor vanity that felt inherent in the original article. It was so sickening that i had to (re)type the entire lot and that was after moving it off of the main page. ~kytti khat 17:48, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] undeleting image(s)
Can you undelete images? There is an image that is not easily found that was wiped out by a user modifying standard article formatting of a detailed image of a non-tradeable item (perhaps the formatting was modified for the vanity of seeing a particular avatar). If you can please restore Image:Varrock armour 2 detail.png, then the article it once was contained in can be consistent with Varrock armour 1 and Varrock armour 3. Thanks, ~kytti khat 14:35, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi! =D-- 15:47, 5 April 2009 (UTC)- Yea, many times I'll look on the wiki and can hardly recognize it, we do have a few new admins (such as Bonziiznob) though most of them are forum admins. - At the moment, I'm not too sure if Derilith was right about the midi files being 100% copyrighted by Jagex. Hi Chicken. I need to ask you for a favour. If you're not too busy, could you go over to RuneScape:Featured images and take a look at the Ogre Enclave Crystal nomination? The nomination expires today and I would usually take action myself, but I'm a bit too involved in the discussion there, so I'd rather not. It needs to be either be closed as successful or moved to the section for extended nominations. Personally, I would move it to the extended nominations section since there is a considerable amount of opposes, but don't let that influence you, do as you see fit. Thanks.
