Chia, that was ridiculous. I had to archive your fifth talk page because every time I went to it, I lagged for 30 seconds (which recently once caused me to actually die on RuneScape to a PKer while I was collecting vials). I was not alone in experiencing lag, either. Please, use some common sense, and accept that you have the longest total talk-page archives on the Wiki...and leave it at that.

That aside: Chia, if you decide to take me as an editor (per your Yew Grove section on the newspaper), I'll shoot you my email address via youtube message, since I don't particularly want it out in plain sight :P. I assume people would be submitting articles and interviews to you, so you could forward them to me and I'd edit them this would preferably be a week or more in advance. Perhaps make a deadline for submitting content at exactly 1 week before the publishing date? Anyway, rather than sending me a huge block of text or a bunch of separate emails, it'd be better if you just send files as attachments and after I'm done editing them I'll just resend them back to you. on a somewhat related note, sites like TruthScape are known by many P-mods and F-mods. a few of the Customer support staff avidly lurk there for "reasons unknown". I happen to like your idea of a wiki newspaper in outline... as in the basic concept is useful even if there may be some disagreements as to what it may contain.

My advise: Just do it! Make the dang thing and get it started.

I encountered similar resistance when I started the Grand Exchange Market Watch for many of the reasons given by the folks objecting to the concept. There certainly is plenty of consensus that it ought to be tried, and the content certainly could be moved if the resistance gets too great. Some individuals who have been major contributors to this wiki simply hate the idea of change in any form, so simply ignore them.

This is a fantastic idea, and it should be developed in one form or another.

BTW, I'm offering to help add content to this newspaper idea as well, so drop me a line once you have the thing started. Let your mind free and get something done! --Robert Horning 18:29, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

...in the "discussion" about confidentiality. I'm going to stop posting; I'm sick of Robert's (and, to some extent, Dtm's) patronizing attitude and their poor excuses supporting their case, as well as their blatantly unworthy cause. They're coming across as smart but incredibly dishonorable and disrespectful. And as has been pointed out, their reasons are limited to "(real world) legally, we can, so we should" and "I'm curious what there is to know". Pathetic reasons, pathetic argument, snobbish attitudes, and overall patronization - I'm just repulsed and am not going to waste my time on this any more.

I've been waiting all day for any of my close mod friends to come on ingame or on msn, but I guess they've deleted me. So I'd like to ask you to please query this and see what Jagex has to say. I recommend you suggest to them that they put something in the public rules about this, even if it's just a one liner briefly explaining that some things are considered confidential and that they must (not should) not be published anywhere. The Abyssal whip article needs a quick clean up which i cant figure how to fix. In the Bonuses section of the article there is an image of an Abyssal Whip which is in front of the attack bonus. Couldnt find a way to delete this image so told an adminastrator.

Thanks for your feedback. However, I'd like to point out that, by default, the signatures actually aren't box templates. Simply leave out the border and background fields, and you get a box signature. Example:

I mean, I know it would be kind of pointless—your code is probably like ten time shorter than that, and much more customisable. But, it is there for people who want it.

As for the rank thing, I know it's not really the right word. We're all here to do the same thing, contributing in the same way under the same circumstances. I can name more than one time that I've undid an edit by someone with rollback rights or sysop access. However, my goal was to make the template as simple to use as possible, and "rank" seemed like the easiest word to remember. Thanks for pointing out that it's not really the right word, but I think it's probably best to leave it as-is, at least for the time being.

[edit] Simplifying the newspaper?

Hi Chia. I’ve got an idea for the newspaper… you know how Tip.it has a sort of newspaper-ish thing called the Tip.it Times? If you don’t, you can go to www.tip.it/runescape and scroll down the main page until you see one of the links to a Tip.it Times.

If you’ve read one, you can see that it basically consists of an editorial (sometimes two or three) written by a Tip.it user. They release one every few weeks or so. Perhaps we could do the same? We could get those interested to write editorials or such, and then we’d need to approve one (or a couple) of them. Once approved, we could maybe announce on the main page that the Wiki Times (or whatever we may call it) is out, and then we could encourage people to read and comment on the editorials(s), like what Tip.it does.

It’s okay if you don’t like the idea. I thought it might be interesting and easier to manage than the current newspaper layout, since it’ll only be dealing with editorials. I just hope it isn’t…copyrighted or anything. If you do like this idea, then I will post it on the Yew Grove. :D If you don’t… ah well, worth a try. Cheers! Never say never. Many Jagex staff have normal ingame accounts that they play on in their spare time. They do not disclose the names of these accounts, but they do exist. Jagex could just as well participate in fansite communities without telling us. And although no official Jagex moderator has appeared to the RuneScape Wiki, there is nothing wrong with including in our policy that their words do not mean any more than the words of a normal player. I have, however, indicated that Jagex presence on fansites is rare in recent times.
