Forum summaries Edit

AndorinKato also thought a forum summaries page would be great, because he always forgot which thread established which policy (except those that are linked in RuneScape:-namespace pages as "[[Forum:Some forum here|Per discussion]],"). It would be worth making such a page, I think, all three of us (or two if AndorinKato is inactive) and whoever else is interested. Notes would include a bolded "This thread has been obsoleted" if a future thread deals with the same thing. Then we could link to it on Forum:Index as "Forum archives by outcome" and decide whether we want to add a template to past archived threads in order to direct users to the next thread dealing with the same thing.

Flaysian expressed his support on IRC and we discussed the archive's format. He has created a short page with 6 columns: Thread | Date | Type | Subject | Action/Closure | Notes

We're making this page so it's easily searchable, so the Subject column should have individual noun groups ("Dialogue pages; transcript pages" instead of "Dialogue and transcript pages" in case someone wants to search for the latest thread for "dialogue pages").

We will probably work from past to present, a user adding a month's worth of threads at a time, coordinating over Special:Chat or IRC to determine who gets the next month. Either that, or we can just pick random months, which will work well until there are 4 months left.

I've started to create some forum lines for the archive, but already I see some problems.

The first of these problems is that it takes a lot of time to copy the closing date, go back to the end to see the forum type, then read enough of the thread to compose a good summary of it.

The second of these problems is that the date ends up taking 3 lines, at least on my ~900x700 Firefox window and Monobook.

Can you take a look at User:A proofreader/Sandbox 2 and maybe try some stuff? (We'll also need all the help we can get, but that's a tough sell when the EoC stuff is way more important.)  a proofreader ▸

I didn't see your reply of the "Awesome discovery" message lol, sorry for the late answer. The mysterious ruins aren't the altar itself, they're just one of the many entrances and nothing states that V---- created these entrances, he created the altars where these entrances would lead, I think that Drakan created the Blood altar entrance in Morytania and used it to consume blood, but then the incident with the Icyene (Decaying tome) almost killed him and he entered a long sleep which would restore his wounds and make him stromger, but meanwhile, the Icyene would destroy a large part of his army, create the Columbarium, place the blood talismans there, destroy the entrance in morytania and make it impossible for him to retrieve the talismans as the Columbarium area is holy, and therefore, making it impossible for him to acess the altar again. About the entrance in the Temple of Light, I don't know much about the history of the elves but there is some evil within their lands... One evil character would create an entrance to the Death Altar to craft death runes for evil purposes and then be fended off by someone which would destroy that entrance and create a temple around it to prevent further acess to the altar... In my point of view, V--- created the altars somewhere and the altar would modify the area and create its own dimension, something like that. Hallowland^talk 00:35, November 28, 2012 (UTC)

Ourania is an exception; The zamorakians created it and it has no apparent link to the Stone of Jas, it has another thing feeding it with energy but we don't know yet. re:Chat-edit-count Edit

That is because the load.js is a way easier place to see this stuff, so it is easier to see what happens there. Also, since the chat-edit-count page is loaded every time a user gets "updated" (going away, coming back, joining/leaving, etc). Because of that, it's best to keep the code it runs as short as possible (it currently runs a check if the script was imported already, and does so if not). Forum archives weirdnessEdit

Okay, so on the forum archives for 2012, I'm having a bit of trouble. On the listing for Water: DirectX or OpenGL, there's a glitch caused by the colon in the forum title that causes the rest of the boxes to be moved down onto an extra row. The same is happening for Copying Jagex Wiki Pages, April fools 2012, Whats this item called, Glitch policy, Runescape Clan Recruiting, Tokhaar-kal, Deleting Quest & Skill Req Parameters, Delete RS:C/R, and BOT KILLING. I don't know what's wrong with the rest. Since you created the project itself, could you look into this? It's something with the forum parameter, I'm almost positive of. The problem with this is that the dates do not display correctly in the entire page. Fortunately, the entirety of 2010 has the date correct. 2011 has the dates messed up (they're missing the month), but it doesn't have any of the problems that 2012 has. 2013 is also not displaying the month, and there's no problems with it that I can see. 04:47, January 7, 2013 (UTC)

I don't really know what to tell ya. Unfortunately, I can't invest any significant amount of time into trying to get it to work, so you have two options:

1. Get RSWiki to install this
2. Ask Joey

I also think a different extension could be installed to make it work. I forgot its exact name, but it allowed implementation of 'this', allowing parsers to affect a page where they are transcluded from rather than on. HA! I knew it'd be that :P. You can't use the regular pipe character at all inside parameters of dpl in parser form. You need to use the broken pipe as the escape character ¦. dpl thought you had a table row of {{#time:Y-m-j and saw %% as a fill for an unnamed parameter because of the pipe.

Penguins and the bear used to repeat before the update that added Zanaris, Dorgesh-Kaan, and Keldagrim as possible spawns. Since then, there has been no regular pattern, although people still call the algorithm that selects locations "the pattern." The algorithm is a partially unanalyzable (so far) function that makes updating the locations programatically impossible. Well, they are discussions just not the closure part. I don't think any page that can be requested for closure won't belong in one of the other categories, and it just kinda bundles the ones that need the attention together. Hello again. I was working on a new dialogue page for Junior Cadet Bertol and I was wondering if I could ask you to take a look at it? It's in my Sandbox. I did not use any collapsing buttons this time, but I did have a lot of <span id>  tags to make reading the page easier (in my opinion). I borrowed the tags on Wizard Elriss/dialogue that would give me the indents and lines, but I believe you said it would only work on /dialogue pages. Thank you for your time.

Well, I guess that what I have isn't truly a question... but anyways: Lately it's been crashing Safari on my iPod. The site stalls up then the browser crashes; however, it's only when it fully loads. Okay. Truth is, this iPod is a piece of shit (I wish there were a stronger word than "shit"); I wouldn't use it if I never lost my original iPod. It probably just decided to be like this recently as I believe it is a sentient device that hates me and probably blames me for the death of Jobs. This never happened before though and thus I decided to give my iPod the benefit of the doubt and to give you all of the blame, YOU EVIL MONSTER. It does this on literally every RuneScape wiki page; I haven't checked other wikis because this is the only wiki for which I care about updating myself on any sort of discussion as a tangent of my random readings. I'll check how other wikis later to see if it crashes there as well as trying other skins on the device. If I get the crashes elsewhere, I'll think about submitting a bug report (since wikiamobile sucks to begin with I'm not sure how much I actually care), but if it doesn't then I will continue to assume that there's some error in the code you've had added. So here's the update: Remember how I said that it's out to get me? Well, the crashes are happening much less frequently now to the point where I don't think it's much of a problem. Are you happy iPod? I look silly in front of Cåm and now he thinks I'm some sorta crazy! Anyways, it didn't manage to crash on other wikis or other skins here; in fact, I was thinking it was weird that it wasn't crashing and thought I was complaining for nothing. Nonetheless it started happening again but much less frequently. So right now it's kinda a win-win-win: you win because you have nothing to actually worry about; I win because I can read up on discussions, etc without endless crashing; my iPod wins because it makes my eyes twitch just a little bit more. I'm just hoping I never sounded like the boy squirrel who cried wolf crash during this whole situation and that it the problem won't spike again. UOTM transclusion Edit

Not complaining about any mishaps, just a thought:

Couldn't you change the page's transclusion with <onlyinclude> tags so that in the off chance that the entire UOTM page becomes transcluded and not hidden, only the importanty stuff is shown? I think we could just put the tag right before the candidates section because I assume that's where the #var stuff starts. I only ask because I'm not 100% sure.

Sorry for the late response by the way. Just as a reminder, you said "Do I spy a search suggest script that might actually work properly? What do you plan to do with it?".

So basically, I'm making a JavaScript MediaWiki client. If you're unfamiliar with that term (you may be more familiar with the term "MediaWiki API wrapper"), it pretty much refers to a framework that makes it easier to call the MediaWiki API in x programming language e.g., pywikipediabot. I'm making one of those for client-side use on wikis e.g., in MediaWiki:Common.js and such. It's called Tundra. There's not a whole lot there right now, but I'm getting there. ;) (Also, there is documentation coming). That getSearchSuggestions code you saw was part of it.

But you probably wouldn't want to use that code on Wikia because it goes through MediaWiki's default search engine and you should use Wikia's search engine instead because it's a lot more polished and things.

I didn't think I would like the discussions page at first. I have this habit of going to the RC, holding Ctrl and clicking all the discussion links to open in new tabs, then glancing over each discussion and closing the tab. ._. However I wanted to say that I really like the discussions page, it's well-made and provides relief for my left pinky. (:

Lores ForumEdit

Hey Cam,

Robo Hobo here, the lores community of RSOF has been rather bunched up in Future Updates over the years. And, as that forum continues to become more of a doomsday forum and sarcastic rants about sof/solomon, I think it would be very beneficial for the community if a Lores forum were to be made on RSOF. I've made a suggestion forum for this, and at the time of speaking we're at 64 supports, with possibly a clan giving full support soon. The wheels are turning behind the scenes, but we need to prove that there is a RuneScape Lores Community, and that the forum would be used.

Compression Edit

None of the above. I am still using PNGgauntlet, everything is still being compressed and uploaded exactly the same way as before. The only difference is that I am doing it under a bot flag to prevent spam in RC. I figured since it requires no real human input, that I can compress images without needing a second look. Sort of, but said human is only doing minimal input. It's just as much actual work to run AWB as it is to click that [Optimize!] button and then use Special:MultipleUpload. Holy crap, I sound like I'm throwing a tantrum asking this, but can you use my poll for the main page? Or at the very least, add in the option that says "I use the Squeal of Fortune". It parodies how when Jagex did a "study" on players' perception of the wheel, they found that nearly everyone used their spins. This angered just about everyone because Jagex was under the assumption that acceptance and use of the wheel was equivalent to approval/enjoyment. So, I'm sure you're a busy person and all that, but I wanted to contact you and some other trusted users about a potentially cool opportunity. I know it's a little vague, but we're bound by secrecy.

Anyway, Wikia is working closely with game and entertainment creators/folk and, based on your active participation all over Wikia, we thought you'd be a great contributor. Are you open to working with us and other Wikia Community members in coming up with ideas for our programs? You'd be invited to join developer round-tables, co-author quizzes and other content, and maybe be invited to the Wikia offices in June (we would fly you out of course).

I know it's pretty vague, but I think it's a cool opportunity. Religion Edit

I agree, not necessary at all to cause offense. But when Jagex makes a reference (no matter if the religion is 'alive' or not), we should mention it too. That was all I was aiming for...and if that's not allowed.. we should remove all references. If we're merely speculating about links... that's against the rules based on speculation not being allowed. And with iffy things like the gods "alignments" we should be extra careful, not for outrage or offense's sake, but for correctness sake. Should work for getting the first page (in alphabetical order of course) that uses the image on whose file page the code is substituted. It just pastes the raw name but feel free to add brackets. Leave the #replace so that files aren't listed as using DPL and leave the ucfirst so that whitespace is stripped.

Navboxes...they're quire complicated aren't they!? (Referring to the mistake I made to the Template:Gods-navbox. Sorry to bother you with that. And thanks for fixing it ;) While I was editing, and previewing it, I did see that I something not completely right.. or just plain wrong. Point being: I couldn't really figure it out. I tried re-editing it 5 or 6 times. Do you have any idea if you can quickly see it? Because it's a bit of shame if I keep messing edits up. I'm glad I got the hang of those 'wikitables', more or less. But these navboxes are a bit more tricky. Oops.. the title is a itty-bitty too long for normal standards, isn't it?
