[edit] Re: Template:ExchangeItem

Right now, the update subcategories use the {{{Date}}} parameter by default, and then if there isn't one, the revision date is used. This should work around inaccurate dates from vandals for the most part, but if you still think it should be changed you can simply get rid of the pipe and the revision timestamp variable in each use of the date parameter. It might be useful to simplify the code that I wrote and use Template:DateDiff instead, though, as it's admittedly a bit messy. Skill 13:43, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

The subcategory code in Template:ExchangeItem was what I referred to as messy; I can definitely see why you left it alone, it's a bit of a hack if you will. If Template:DateDiff is causing template size problems, though, we probably won't be able to use it, so my code will have to do unless you can find a simpler way of writing it. As for the number of subcategories, my thinking at the time was that it wouldn't be hard to adjust the number/time periods involved if anyone wanted, so you can feel free. I'll adjust the expression if you'd like. Skill 02:14, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
No complaints here. Minor note, though, you don't have to use {{CURRENTTIMESTAMP}} in the {{#time: z}} parser functions, as it uses the current date and time if no parameters are specified. Skill 19:52, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Favicon ideas

That is interesting, the beacon icon is the first to break the round icon style altogether. I'm not so sure that cycling through them would be a good idea however. Additionally the favicons of most websites are usually derived from the sites logos. As seen here:

Image:Searchable favicons.png

As you can see, Google uses it's G, Yahoo uses it's Y, Wikipedia uses it's W, Amazon uses it's A, IMDb uses a mini version of their movie ticket logo, eBay uses it's coloured letters name logo, etc. That being the case I'd love to push for an update of the logo (to the cleaner HD inspired version that is familiar and recycles the lettering), as well as the RW favicon that is derived from the logo's lettering. However I firmly believe that any of my suggestions will be swept under the rug as I seem to have some sort of controversial airs that surround me and cause people to reject whatever I say, at least that's my crackpot theory of the minute. ~kytti khat 18:52, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello, You probably don't know me all that well, but I would like to ask if I could nominate you for a RfA? I don't know if you've been asked before and I'm just too lazy to try to find it out, or if you really don't want to be an admin, but I think you would be a very good leader here on the wiki. [edit] RE: Audience Costume

Thanks for your views on the matter. I now understand why it is categorized as such, and not by costumes. Still, I was wondering if I could add images of my character wearing the costume pieces that appear to go together by colour (excluding the boots since there are only two pairs of boots) to serve as an example of how the same coloured pieces look together. Also, I was wondering if I could upload images of the different Audience pieces equipped by themselves since the current images show only one type of Audience hat/shirt/trousers/boots. If this idea wouldn't work, I'd understand. I just feel like there should be an example of what these pieces look like by themselves and with other matching pieces. Please feel free to leave me a message on my Talk page with your views on the matter. Thank you for your time. --JalYt-Xil-BicycleCat user | talk | sandbox 18:54, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

How is it unnecessary and rigid? I know personally I prefer seeing

{{for|the quest|Quest}}

rather than

:''for the Quest, see Quest.''

It's easy for new users to use as well. What other states would you want to add? You can just add another {{for}} or I can modify it and allow for multiple things.--Richard 22:39, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I have posted my Java source code (Hopefully you know Java) here. [edit] Cat

Yes it does work. It is limited, the items will all appear under "2" but they will be in the right order - oldest first. There are other ways to do this, but they all require more maintenance as far as I can see. Rich Farmbrough, 09:01 1 October 2008 (GMT).
Hmm now I see yor trick of treating Exchange as a namespace (is it one?) it's easy to generate this cat. It WILL find some, in fact I would say nearly all, old articles, once the template has propagated. Lets leave it for a bit and see if it helps. Naturally the best solution is to pull the prices form the Jagex site, but until then... Rich Farmbrough, 09:08 1 October 2008 (GMT).

[edit] Japol1's edits

Could you talk to him about his current edits? These would include Learning the Ropes, Skills, God Wars Dungeon, and his poorly-done nomination of Cooking for a Featured Article (I see you've just now reverted those first two). I'm getting more and more impatient with him; he doesn't seem to understand how to properly edit, so I would like you to talk to him, for fear that I'll mess up with my words. He was doing so well, too, until recently...also, I now believe that User:Cp josh truly IS a sockpuppet of Japol; not only do they have the same bad English and editing skills, but if you check CP Josh's video page, you'll see that same exact YouTube video that Japol's previous sockpuppet (named Jackspy156) placed on the forums. Of course, there's always the possibility of Japol showing the video to his "brother", but we can't be sure, since we obviously don't monitor him. To put it bluntly, I'm tired of undoing everything Japol does, and I'm positive that I'm not alone in thinking that. He's changed the news template for the Main Page just to tell everyone that he made another poll. He's placed templates on pages that had no need for them (you've seen this one just a little bit ago). He's gone to the Yew Grove to change the picture for {{obsolete}} just because he thought it was boring (that's not the point, obviously). He changed the sitenotice for the Olympics Ceremony, not stopping even after being warned to stop around FOUR OR FIVE times. He's nominated articles for what they're about, not how well-made they are. The list just goes on and on, and I'm not going to let it get longer, because his edits are JUST NOT HELPING. Please, talk to Japol! Stinkowing (WHAT'S IN IT?)

[edit] Finished adding image galleries of the different audience pieces

I wanted to let you know that I finished adding those image galleries. Since I could not control how the images displayed when I put them in a regular gallery, I was forced to use tables to create "pseudo-galleries". As such, I was wondering if you'd take a look at my handiwork and see if there are any improvements that could be made to the "galleries". I would also like to ask if there was a way to add a description that would display under the whole table/gallery instead of just under a single image. Thank you for your time. --JalYt-Xil-BicycleCat user | talk | sandbox 21:11, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Template:Standarddetail

I'm confused as to how you find her version more adhering to the style guide than mine. When after I reverted her edits, I made numerous changes to make the template sound more like her revision. The only reason I undid her revision was because I found it difficult to understand.

Also- Why did you make a new category, and change the templates category, but change none of the other relevant links (ie. from the community portal, the template itself, ect.) I'm a little frustrated right now =/ --Aburnett001 {Talk} {#} 16:43, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
No need to apologize, I see what you where getting at. I am going to make just a few changes to the template to add back some of the information, making sure it adheres to the style guide. --Aburnett001 {Talk} {#} 22:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Costume room

Only some images seemed to feel like vanity inspired, however the article as a whole felt empty after reading the articles related. Are you telling me that the article got too big and needed to be sized down or are you telling me that the other articles don't warrant the same look and feel? [edit] RE: Wiki style guide and Corrupt dragon equipment

Right.

About the wikilinking in headings - sorry. I must have missed/forgotton reading it in the SG. I'll try not to again in future.

Regarding Corrupt dragon equipment - I put the template up for speedy d because I put all the items on it into Template:PVP items (I gathered you knew/guessed/worked out that already). If a new corrupt dragon item comes out which is not PvP related (which I doubt to be honest), it easy enough to change the template. Or, if you wanted, we could remake the Template:Corrupt dragon equipment, and put a link to just corrupt dragon equipment, rather than all of the equipment in Template:PVP items. Personally, I think its better as Template:PVP items, or at least until a new corrupt dragon item is released that isn't PvP related (Corrupt dragon two-handed sword? Corrupt abyssal whip? They seem likely candidates to me). Quests FTW! Gaz Lloyd Calcs!Awesome 21:33, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

fud is used frequently in political campaigning and as such its one of those things that grates on my nerves, so it would've been too harsh of a word to use for what i was trying to convey so i opted for a more flippant word and typoed nonetheless, dyslexia or some other sort of brain-to-finger lag i guess, I really should reread my comments and the long ones i do, but not always on the short ones (i would have slews of typos without the function of the built-in spell checker in firefox, but as a rule of thumb i try to correct my words before auto-correcting, it helps keep one sharper at spelling without as much machine reliance).
Regardless from what i was seeing i was under the impression that violet would actually be the fastest (at least in terms of physics), especially if you consider that of the entire electromagnetic spectrum red (or the slim sliver of the light variety of radiation therein which is visible to humans) is actually closer to sound waves which are in fact much slower than all visible light, where as violet would be further away from sound on that spectrum and thus faster. Regardless I do know that red has far more impact on the human psyche than other colours, which is why "do not" signs, stop signs and such feature red. This is also likely why I keep noticing Vimescarrot's names (maybe he uses the red to hide his sysop/bureaucrat (not sure which) status on edits, regardless as a kat i find it manically wonderful of him(her) to do so. ~kytti khat 19:59, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Low detail

Did you know?
Both template:lowdetail and template:sd are both redirects to the same template? Do you have plans for one of these? ~kytti khat 07:28, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

seems like a waste of time, the "wrongly" linked ones will be removed over time and when the list is short would seem like a much more apt time to "convert" the "wronged". BTW what is the opposite of High? (many people would say low, but hey that's just semantics, right) ~kytti khat 07:38, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
of course they use those terms, that's called marketing. regardless the effect is the same and redirects aren't a bad thing, but hey you have your priorities, just seems like a waste considering how far behind the scenes it is, now if you had a bot running changing them, that'd be different, reminds me a thingie i started to have the Update: namespace sort more appropriately in the category namespace. ~kytti khat 08:06, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

I'd been helping you switch images from the lowdetail template to the sd template until I did a little digging and noticed you called it "your project" on kytti's Talk page. Do you want me to go back to what I was doing before I started helping out, or should I carry on? Either way is fine by me. :) --nekobawt 22:19, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
