Strategies
Barrows
Using prayer for all the battles with the brothers, I find a different strategy makes sense than those documented elsewhere.
- Order
- Karil, uses ranged and lowers agility, even through prayer
- Agility restores run energy for the tunnels, so allow some time to recover
- Ahrim, uses magic and lowers melee stats, even through prayer
- Melee used against Karil and (usually) in the tunnels to rack up kills
- Verac, uses melee and can hit through prayer
- Verac hitting through prayer is more dangerous than Dharok beating hard on prayer
- Dharok, uses melee and hits hardest
- Just in case ...
- Torag, uses melee and depletes run energy (but not through prayer)
- So ultimately nothing special
- Guthan, uses melee
- Really nothing special
- Tunnels
- Make sure auto-retaliate is off
- Run until either
- The last brother appears
- Fight him, then keep on going
- The door to the central chamber is found
- Solve the puzzle, rack up kills, then enter the chamber
- The last brother appears
Kalphite Queen Soloing
My Kalphite Queen soloing set-up and strategy may be different from the common one. I started thinking about it when my stats were in the 70s. They're still low in the 80s, so the approach is most definitely for someone who's not maxed.
- It's based on the following conditions and criteria.
- Keep costs reasonable. The KQ isn't Tz-Tok Jad, and her drops aren't going to pay for an expensive set-up.
- Maximize absorption when possible. The KQ hits high and often, so it makes more sense to limit her max hit.
- She always hits with range and magic, so concentrate absorption on one of those. Use prayer for the other.
- Use Aegis.
- Minimize attack penalties for whatever styles are used.
- The KQ's first form has a crush weakness.
- My thought process:
- It's okay to kill the queen a little at a time, retreating and restocking whenever necessary.
- Wear mostly melee armor that has good ranged or magic absorption, which mostly means good ranged absorption.
- Use Protect from Magic all the time to cover what the armor doesn't.
- Armor:
- Barrows bodies (Dharok, Guthan, Torag, Verac) have 10% ranged absorption; the Dragon platebody and Dragon chainbody have 9% ranged absorption.
- Verac's has an attractive prayer bonus, but ...
- All barrows have both a ranged and magic attack penalty; Dragon has a magic attack penalty, but no ranged penalty (not even plate).
- Ganodermic armour beats everything, of course, but I don't have the Slayer level to get my own flakes for repair.
- So the body is dragon plate.
- Barrows legs (the ones with range absorption) also have magic and ranged attack penalties, as do Dragon platelegs.
- Black and Royal d'hide chaps have a ranged attack bonus, no melee attack penalty, and ranged absorption; the same is true of Karil's skirt.
- I went with d'hide chaps, but Karil's skirt would also be a valid choice. The absorption stats of black d'hide and Karil's are the same. Royal d'hide is slightly better.
- Dragon boots for the strength bonus.
- The Obsidian shield and Dragon sq shield (for pairing with the likely crossbow) have the same absorption stats.
- The Obsidian shield has a larger ranged attack penalty.
- So it's the Dragon sq shield.
- Helm of Neitiznot or Full slayer helm, depends on whether I'm killing the KQ for a slayer task.
- Barrows bodies (Dharok, Guthan, Torag, Verac) have 10% ranged absorption; the Dragon platebody and Dragon chainbody have 9% ranged absorption.
- Melee weapon:
- The Barrelchest anchor has a good crush accuracy, so that's the minimum weapon to consider.
- The options with better crush accuracy are Dharok's greataxe, Statius's warhammer, Vesta's spear, and the Chaotic maul.
- I don't have a Chaotic maul. It will take me a really long time to get enough tokens to buy one, so that's out.
- The warhammer and spear degrade and disintegrate. They cost several million each.
- The greataxe is only slightly more accurate than the anchor, but it damages much more slowly.
- So the anchor is it for the first form.
- Ranged weapon:
- My standard favorite for everything is a Rune crossbow and Broad bolts.
- Other options for consideration include the Chaotic crossbow, Karil's crossbow, and a Hand cannon. (The Zaryte bow is just too ridiculous.)
- I don't have a Chaotic crossbow. It will take me a really long time to get enough tokens to buy one, so that's out.
- The hand cannon is actually the same accuracy as the rune crossbow, and shot is pricey. The thing can also explode.
- Karil's crossbow is less accurate than a rune crossbow, although it's faster. The damage rate for Karil's is the same as a rune crossbow with runite bolts. No advantage to Karil's.
- So it's a rune crossbow with the best bolts I'm willing to lose, since Ava's device won't work with a platebody and I probably won't stop to pick up what I shoot.
- Broad bolts, Runite bolts, or Diamond bolts (e) make the most sense, depending upon how much I want to spend at the time.
- Inventory:
- Ring of slaying for fast access to the fairy rings (I choose not to risk the charges on my Tokkul-Zo.)
- 1 Super antipoison
- 1 Prayer potion (safety blanket, might not be needed, but better to be safe)
- Teleport to house tablets (2 or more to keep it simple)
- Rocktails
- Procedure:
- Melee the first form.
- While the second form is emerging, run away with a tablet, pray, restock food, and return. Don't bother taking the time to swap armors. Just worry about inventory.
- Range the second form.

Infobox hack
Get two prices in the item infobox, if it's ever needed. The example is for Raw beef, when undead beef redirected to it.
|exchange = Normal: {{GEPrice|Raw beef}} [{{fullurl:Exchange:Raw beef|action=edit}} update] coins
Undead: {{GEPrice|Raw beef (undead)}} [{{fullurl:Exchange:Raw beef (undead)|action=edit}} update]
The Lamer Rationale
