[edit] Activity

I joined the Wiki very early on, and helped to get it to at least the next level. To give you an idea of how basic the wiki was at the time I joined, we had a discussion on whether to create articles for individual items (I was against it, I didn't want to have to maintain them all hehee), we had no agility article (at all! It was red-linked for a LONG time) and our magic article just covered free-to-play.

It's come a long way since then! I, amongst many others (notably CouchPotato99, Richard1990, ShadowDancer, Oddlyoko, Whiplash, Vimescarrot), created the item, skill and quest templates which are followed even now. The articles I worked particularly hard on and was happy with when I was done were Magic, Herblore, Farming, Desert Treasure, Treasure Trails Guide (well, never really happy with it, but I set up the basic sections and stuff and other people filled in what I couldn't!), Contact!, Miscellania and Etceteria, Al-Kharid, Runescape:About amongst many many others.

The early days were tough, mainly because we had barely any editors and gave adminship to everyone who started editing and even looked half-decent (I got adminship with barely a vote, and bureaucrat because Oddlyoko needed a hand)! For example, User:Shadowdancer, though an absolutely superb editor (eg Draynor Manor which remains mostly his original), started cat-fights with everyone and eventually tried to block all other editors apart from him (his admin rights were removed and he left in a huff); Another later example was User:Totalrune, who went on vandalism sprees from time to time and claimed it was his brother, yet, despite this, still demanded admin rights (he never got them). Sigh. We live and learn, we live and learn! These days, I suspect the vandals are continuing in their quest to do nasty stuff - it's the ones that occasionally do good editing work that always slip under the radar.

In my runescape career, I achieved 99 smithing, before getting bored with all the grinding and leaving for a better, less grindy game (though, the introduction of trade restrictions played a large part in me going as well). I was in the same clan as Gertjaars for about a year (waaaay before he got #1. Methinks that Dutch boy needs to get a life :-)). I still chat to his cousin when I log on occasionally.

However, I no longer play, I left when the trade restrictions were introduced, see below in my sandbox for details.

[edit] Where I'll be

If anyone needs to contact me I will most likely be found on at the Kingdom of Loathing as user 'Bigcalm'. Come see some good game design where the creators listen to the players.

I have resigned mod-ship and cancelled my subscription. I may stop in from time to time on rs, but I am extremely unlikely to play unless the trade restrictions are lifted.
