Most of what's in these Guides can be found here on RuneScape Wiki, so why bother writing these Guides? Instead of having to follow one article to another article to yet, another article, etc., etc., most of the information is provided on a single page dedicated and devoted to a single aspect of RuneScape.

Note To F2P (Free-to-play) Players Edit
Unfortunately, when it comes to Crafting, including Quests, Skills, and Items you can use to aid you in Crafting is quite limited. Most of the Quests, Skills, and Items listed below are only available to P2P (Pay-to-play) Members. I'll label anything both available and beneficial to (Free-to-play) Players with "(F2P)" afterwards.
Reaching Crafting Level 58 Edit
- There are many different strategies and methods for achieving Crafting Level 58, which is when you can start Crafting Earth battlestaffs, and then start Crafting Air battlestaffs after Crafting Level 66. First, you have to decide how much time versus money you want to spend into Crafting, because like raising most Skills, they directly correlate with each other. If you want to make money Crafting, it'll take longer to earn Crafting Experience. However, if you want to raise your Crafting level quickly, you'll lose money in the process. Here's some different strategies and methods from different resources, and you choose what you prefer:
- If also Training Fletching, spinning Flax into Bow string at a Spinning wheel is another way to earn some Crafting Experience, and is a great way to earn some money at lower Crafting levels selling the Bow string at the Grand Exchange.
- If you're planning on Crafting Earth battlestaffs once you've reached Crafting Level 58, please read my Crafting Battlestaves Guide below. Once you've reached Crafting Level 46, you may want to start Crafting Unpowered orbs until you reach Crafting Level 58. However, depending upon your current financial situation, to gain the Crafting Experience without losing much or any money in the process, you may want to collect the raw materials (Seaweed and Buckets of sand) needed instead of buying them or the Soda ash at the Grand Exchange. You will need to make about 2,316 Molten glass and craft them into Unpowered orbs from Crafting Level 46 to 58, which should last you all of the way through Crafting Earth battlestaffs to reach Crafting Level 66, which is when you can start Crafting Air battlestaffs. I know these numbers may sound discouraging, but if you can stick with it all of the way, think about these numbers:
- 2,316 Earth battlestaffs x 70 Charge Earth Orb Magic Experience x 65 High Level Alchemy Magic Experience = 312,660 Total Magic Experience
- 2,316 Earth battlestaffs x 9,300 Coins each (casting High Level Alchemy) - Average Cost of Materials Needed (9,000+/- Coins for each Battlestaff) = 694,800+/- Coins Possible Total Profit
- At Crafting Level 57, you can start Crafting Dragonhide into Dragonhide armour, which is one of the fastest ways of Power levelling Crafting. However, if you buy the Dragonhides from the Grand Exchange, you will take a small loss of profit, and only cast High Level Alchemy on your finished Dragonhide armour, since you usually get more money that way versus selling your Dragonhide armour at the Grand Exchange.
- Another way that I reached Crafting Level 58 was Banking all of the Uncut gems and cut Gems that I received or from other Player's Drops, even Sapphires, cutting them with my Chisel as I would Bank them. I would wait until I had collected at least 26 Sapphires and many other Gems in my Bank. After Mining all of the Gold ores for each Gem I had, then Crafting these Gems and Gold ores into Jewellery, and then cast Enchantment spells on the Jewellery to make them into enchanted Jewellery, mostly for Teleportation to Minigames; thus earning both Crafting and Magic Experience. Since many of these Minigames has either a Bank, a Banker, or a Bank Deposit Box for quick access via Teleportation, these Items sell well on the Grand Exchange, thus earning some extra money, and even keep a few of them for my own use! These are the Items I would make:
- I raised my Crafting, Mining, and Runecrafting levels by Mining about a hundred Silver ores at a time, and then Crafting those into Tiaras using a Tiara mould at a Furnace. I then Banked them all, and picked-up any and all Talismans I came across, including Drops by other Players. Once I had collected over 28 Air talismans along with many other Talismans, I then Runecraft all of these Talismans and Tiaras into Rune Tiaras. Repeat this process until you reach the desired levels! A good place to find dropped Talismans is around the Guards in Falador.
- If you get bored "grinding", completing these quests also reward Crafting Experience, and these quests reward Experience in any Skill of your choosing.
Crafting Battlestaves Edit
Crafting Battlestaves is a good way to make money, along with gaining both Crafting and Magic Experience, and reminds me much of Runecrafting using the Abyss, including the recommended Quests, Skills, Items, and Unpowered orb running.

Recommendations Edit
First, here's what you may want, but definitely not "must-have". However, if you can complete all of the recommended Quests, and acquire all of the recommended Skill levels and Items, you will find Crafting Battlestaves much easier and quicker:
Recommended Quests, Miniquests, And Achievement Diaries Edit
- Rune Mysteries (access Rune Essence mines) (F2P)
- Wolf Whistle (access to the Summoning Skill for Summoning familiars and using their Special moves)
- Druidic Ritual (access to the Herblore Skill)
- Lumbridge and Draynor Diary (obtain the Explorer's ring for Teleportation and restore Run Energy up to three times per day, but you CANNOT bring the Explorer's ring to Entrana!!!) (F2P)
- Elemental Workshop I (for making and wielding Elemental shields)
- Temple of Ikov (at least the beginning of the Quest to acquire the Boots of lightness)
- Hero's Quest (including 56 Quest points, and to recharge your Amulets of glory at the Heroes' Guild)
- Horror from the Deep (obtain a God book, preferably the Holy book)
- As a First Resort... (access to Oo'glog's Spa facilities)
- Enlightened Journey (access to the Balloon transport system)
- Fairy Tale quest series (access to the Fairy rings network)
- The Hand in the Sand (ability to receive 84 Buckets of sand from Bert and deliver them to your Bank account daily)
- Watchtower (Teleportation to Yanille to speak to Bert)
- Lunar Diplomacy (access to the Lunar Spells Spellbook to cast NPC Contact for Bert)
- Varrock Diary (so you can purchase up to 64 Battlestaffs from Zaff's Superior Staves daily at 7,000 Coins each instead of about 8,200 Coins each from the Grand Exchange)
Recommended Skills Edit
NOT including all of the Skill Levels to do the above Quests:
- Total Combat level 81+, preferably Total Combat level 112+ (helps against any of the Monsters you may encounter along the way)
- Defence Level 40+ (to wear either Black dragonhide armour or Blessed dragonhide armour, and to wear Penance gloves)
- Hitpoints Level 50+ (to help keep you alive longer in case you were Attacked or Poisoned)
- Magic Level 60+ (for casting Charge Earth Orb spell, or preferably Level 66 for casting Charge Air Orb spell)
- Prayer Level 43+ (preferably Level 52+, using Protect from Melee) (F2P)
- Ranged Level 70+ (to wear either Black dragonhide armour or Blessed dragonhide armour)
- Summoning Level 52+ (to summon a Spirit terrorbird to help increase both your Agility and Energy)
- Agility Level 71+ (regenerate Energy faster the higher this is)
- Construction Level 47+ (for building your Player-owned house in Taverley, and also for the needed rooms and items inside)
- Crafting Level 58+ (preferably Level 66, but don't even bother making Battlestaves at lower Crafting levels since the dangers outweigh the benefits)
- Herblore Level 34+ (if you want to make your own Agility potions and/or Anti-poison potions)
- Hunter Level 40+ (to wear Spotted cape, preferably Hunter Level 66 to wear Spottier cape)
- Mining Level 30+ (if Mining Pure essence yourself at a Rune Essence mine)
- Runecrafting Level 44+ (if making the Runes yourself instead of buying them)
Recommended Items Edit
- 27 or 28 Amulets of glory + 1 Amulet of glory (with no charges, for your Player-owned house's Guild Trophy) = 28 or 29 total Amulets of glory
Achievement Diary Items Edit
- Explorer's ring 3 (to recharge your Run Energy up to three times per day) (F2P)
- NOTE: You CANNOT bring the Explorer's ring on the ship to Entrana!
- Varrock armour 3 (so you can purchase up to 64 Battlestaffs from Zaff's Superior Staves daily at 7,000 Coins each instead of about 8,200 Coins each from the Grand Exchange, and it's also very light-Weight and gives decent Defence bonuses compared to most other Armour)
Armour And Protective Items Edit
- Full Black dragonhide set with Blessed dragonhide coif, OR Full Blessed dragonhide armour
- Elemental shield (doesn't weigh anything, and +6 Magic protection against Chaos druids) OR Holy book (gives +5 to Prayer along with +8 to all Defence bonuses)
Cures And Healing Edit
- Food (preferably several cooked Lobsters or better)
- Several Anti-poison potions, or Antipoison mixes, or Super antipoisons, or Super anti-poison mixes, or Extra strong anti-poison potions, or Extra strong anti-poison mixes (Poison spiders will Poison you often while making Earth orbs!)
Weight-reducing equipment (up to -13.5 kg) Edit
- Spotted cape (reduces Weight by 2.5 kg, but requires Hunter Level 40), or preferably Spottier cape (reduces Weight by 4.5 kg, but requires Hunter Level 66)
- Boots of lightness (reduces Weight 4.5 kg, and is obtained from partially completing the Temple of Ikov Quest)
- Penance gloves (reduces Weight 4.5 kg, and is obtained from the Barbarian Assault Minigame)
Temporary Skill Boosts Edit
- Several Agility potions (temporarily increases Agility by 3 levels), or Agility mixes (temporarily increases Agility by 3 levels and heals 3 Hitpoints), or Summer pies (temporarily increases Agility by 5 levels), or yellow Spicy stews (temporarily increases Agility up to 6 levels)
- Several Draynor Manor Cabbages (temporarily increases Defence level by +1 or +2), or Defence potions (temporarily increases Defence level by 15%), or Super defence potions (temporarily increases Defence level by 20%), or Super defence mix Potions (temporarily increases Defence level by 5-19 levels and healing 3 to 6 Hitpoints)
- Several Spirit terrorbird Summoning pouches (if Summoning Level is 52+, but Summoning familiars are NOT allowed on Entrana!)
- Several Tireless run scrolls (if Summoning Level is 52+, but Summoning familiars are NOT allowed on Entrana!)
Recommended House And House-Related Items Edit
- POH (Player-owned house) (located in Taverly)
- Chapel Room built next to the Exit portal
- Quest Hall Room built next to the Exit portal
- Amulet of glory Guild Trophy built in the Quest Hall Room
- Study Room built in POH (Player-owned house) (if making House teleport tablets yourself)
- Mahogany eagle lectern (requires Construction Level 67)

Steps Crafting Battlestaves From Start To Finish Edit
If you've read through the above web pages, you'll notice that there's several steps involved with Crafting Battlestaves. For each step you skip and instead buy the materials needed at the Grand Exchange, the faster Crafting Experience you'll gain, but earn less money:
- Gather or buy Seaweed
- Cooking the Seaweed on a Range or Fire to make Soda ash, or buy the Soda ash
- Gather or buy several empty Buckets
- Gather Buckets of sand at Sandpits, or buy them
- Use the Soda ashes and Bucket of sands on a Furnace to make Molten glass, or buy the Molten glass
- Use a Glassblowing pipe on the Molten glass to make Unpowered orbs, or buy them
- Gather or buy Pure essence
- Runecrafting the Pure essence into Cosmic runes, or buy them (you'll need three Cosmic runes for each Unpowered orb you have)
- Cast Charge Earth Orb at the Earth Obelisk (requires Magic Level 60), or cast Charge Air Orb at the Air Obelisk (requires Magic Level 66), on the Unpowered orbs to make Earth orbs or Air orbs (respectively), or buy them
- Buy Battlestaffs (unfortunately, you cannot make them)
- Crafting the Battlestaffs into Earth battlestaffs using Earth orbs, or into Air battlestaffs using Air orbs, in lots of 14 each
- Runecrafting Pure essence into Nature runes, or buy them
- Cast High Level Alchemy spell on the Earth battlestaffs or Air battlestaffs
Crafting Experience Versus Making Money Crafting Edit
Until you reach both Crafting and Magic Levels 66 each, you may want to focus more on obtaining Crafting Experience more so than making money from Crafting. Buying raw materials instead of gathering them is a much faster way of earning Crafting Experience, if money permits. If money is a problem, perhaps you should read my Runecrafting And Rune Running Guide, and focus on Nature running through the Abyss (if P2P (Pay-to-play) Member), or Air running (if F2P (Free-to-play) Player), and using the Assist System to Runecraft. You can even do this if your Runecrafting is only Level 1! There's also so many different Money making guides using other Skills and Items you may already have! Here's some ways of obtaining raw materials faster:
- Buy 80 Seaweed daily from Arhein in Catherby for two Coins each, for a total of 160 Coins. Arhein does not stock the seaweed in his shop; instead, you must choose to talk to Arhein and use the prompt: "I hear that you sell Seaweed". Arhein will only sell you 80 Seaweed per day. He sells the Seaweed unnoted, so with an Inventory empty of everything except Coins you must make three trips to purchase all his available Seaweed. Fortunately, there is both a Range and a Bank near Arhein, which is quite convenient for rapidly Cooking the Seaweed into Soda ash. Then buy however much Seaweed you need from the Grand Exchange for about 265 Coins each.
- If you want to skip Cooking the Seaweed into Soda ash, then just buy the Soda ash from the Grand Exchange for about 300 Coins each, since you DON'T get ANY Experience for Cooking Seaweed whatsoever.
- You could just buy the Unpowered orbs from the Grand Exchange, but you would lose the 52.5 Crafting Experience for each Unpowered orb you buy instead of Crafting them. Your choice, though.
Refer to the Battlestaves Calculator for determining cost versus time and Experience. Keep Crafting Earth battlestaffs until you reach Crafting Level 66, and then Crafting only Air battlestaffs after that.
