Greetings fellow Wikians!
I’m Dechaineux.
I’ve been a casual player of RuneScape since early ’06 – over three years and counting – and an editor of this wonderful wiki since March 2007.
In November ’07 I was given access to the wiki’s administration privileges – something that made subsequent clean-up and anti-vandal work much easier!
In mid-2008 I let my RuneScape membership lapse – along with, unfortunately, my contributions to this wiki project – due to university entrance examinations and other ‘real-world’ commitments.
I had always intended to return straight away to RuneScape once time permitted. During the latter part of ’08 and the first quarter of ’09, however, I tried my hand at another, more ‘up-market’ MMO.
While I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing WAR – I never felt as home as I have in my time ‘Scaping. While it’s true that RuneScape lacks the ‘bells-and-whistles’ of many other MMOs, I can now say with firsthand experience that it has something else instead– enjoyability (excuse my brutal maiming of the English language there!).
I hope that, on my return to RuneScape and to the wiki, I might become more involved with the ‘community’ side of things – something I have neglected during my time here. If you have any concerns or questions or casual chit-chat to send my way, please feel free to drop me a note!
Cheers, Dech

[edit] What’s in a Name?
I do occasionally get questions about my RuneScape (and general gaming) tag.
The name Dechaineux stems directly from that of one of the Royal Australian Navy’s Submarines – HMAS Dechaineux. The Dechaineux is a Collins Class diesel powered submarine and I have had the privilege of sailing aboard her (only for a short while I'm afraid).
Hence, indirectly, the name Dechaineux originates from the namesake of the submarine. HMAS Dechaineux was named for Captain Emile Dechaineux, an Australian Naval officer who served during WWII.
[edit] About Me – The “Real World”
Outside of the virtual-world of RuneScape I’m a male, 18 year old Western Australian university student. My bachelor degrees are in Mining Engineering and Economics, although I don’t start my studies for another few months yet.
Home town is currently Albany – 400km south of Perth.
Interests, besides casual gaming, include aquatic sports such as rowing, sailing, surfing and scuba diving. It’s handy living right beside the sea!
[edit] About Me – RuneScape
While playing RuneScape my main ‘goal’ is, above anything else, to do what’s fun. Thus, while most of my time is devoted to training skills (and let’s face it – what activity in RuneScape isn’t?), my methods may not always be the most time/cost efficient.
I tend to place more value upon self-sufficiency than upon making money – a side effect of which is that I am ‘asset rich, cash poor’. I have plenty of materials sitting in my bank just waiting for the day that I will come along and actually use them to train a skill.

While on the subject of skills, I would have to say that my favourite two skills would be Farming and Slayer. For some reason, I have found that I don’t really enjoy the ‘popular’ RuneScape skills (namely Woodcutting, Fishing, Cooking etc.), probably as they require very little input and are, I suspect, trained mainly for the ends (skill capes) and not for the sake of actually training the skill.
That being said, I’ve had my own run-in with the ‘race to 99’. Shortly after the skill capes were released I decided to get level 99 in Fletching. I worked hard (well it is relative isn’t it?) at the skill but, by the time I got half way, I realised that, firstly, I wasn’t enjoying the process and, secondly, if I was to get a skill level of 99 in any skill I would want it to be a process that I enjoyed to some extent.

I can’t say that I’ve got all that much closer to a 99 since then, possibly because neither Slayer nor Farming are particularly fast skills to train. To be honest, however, I don’t think it really matters to me. While I can always dream of donning either of those capes, I’m quite happy in the mean time with my Quest Cape (which I hope to re-obtain soon) and slowly moving my total level and total experience upwards. You never know, one day I might eventually make it there without trying too hard!
