From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape
|
I've been playing RuneScape since October, 2004 and a paying member since February, 2005. Technically, I've never invested as much time into any game as I have RuneScape, but what can I say?
I love the game.
I play RuneScape like it's a full time job, as I can say that I easily accumulate 40 hours of game play a week. I also have a full time job that I get payed for, and I have somewhat of a personal life. Not much.. but enough. :)

[edit] Runescape Wiki
I've been here at the Runescape Wiki since June of 2007. I can't really consider myself a constant contributer, as i've noticed that I tend to take small breaks from the community. I'd like to have more time to invest here, but with my personal life and my devotion to the game itself... well, you know how it goes.
I have much to learn here, but I also have learned a lot. Much of my knowledge in wiki editing is obtained by looking at an existing page's edit box and seeing how it works. Yeah, sure, they have help articles within this wiki to aid you in getting started with editing, but that help is limited. So, a tip for all you wiki-newbs out there: self teach; observe.
I haven't had much interaction with the other members of this community yet, as I kind of go unseen around here since I edit at peculiar times (mainly in the middle of the night), I don't participate in the IRC channel, nor do I use the forums. I feel like the forums and IRC are just trouble. I especially do not want to start forming personal opinions of editors, nor do I want them forming opinions of me. I suppose I'd like to be more well known around here, but then again, this isn't a popularity contest. I'm here to edit.
With that said, I'm a nit-picker when it comes to the details. You will notice that I will be spending most of my editing time doing things like:
- Making sure items, monsters, places, etc. are linked to their respective pages.
- Making spelling and grammatical corrections.
- Uploading images for things that have no image at all.
- Minute details
[edit] Noteworthy Edits and Additions
I will list all of, what I consider, my noteworthy edits and additions over here.
[edit] As I DK: The Name
My username is always being questioned, mostly by people thinking that I hail from Denmark. For the record, DK (in this situation) does not stand for Denmark.
It is, in fact, a play on the word decay.
I only chose to use DK insead of decay because, in real life, people refer to me as D.K., just as some people are refered to as "J.R." or "J.T.". It's my name.
And yes, everything I do, I do as I decay.
[edit] As I DK: In Game
|
| My normal attire. |
I've been playing RuneScape for awhile now, and I consider myself a well rounded player. I try to train all of my skills, including the ones that I really don't enjoy. Runecrafting is a prime example. I favor melee as far as fighting style, but I don't mind ranging or maging either.
In game, I tend to have my private chat set to friends. I'm not much of a socialist, as i'm always usually too busy to talk.
My family plays the game. My father, sister, and brother-in-law are all members, as well as all adults. Most people in-game find it very suprising, but I don't understand why. I have met plenty of families, children and adults alike, that play RuneScape. I suppose that some people just can't understand that RS can be enjoyed by all ages.

[edit] Non Combat
[edit] Woodcutting and Fletching
|
| As I DK chopping the Mage tree in the Gnome Stronghold. |
Woodcutting and Fletching are my two most favored non-combat skills. I spend lots and lots of time hacking away at yews and magic trees. My typical woodcutting spots are the yew trees in Catherby, the yews and mage tree located in Gnome Stronghold, and the Magic trees found near the Legend's Guild.
|
| Notice how I put a bow at the bottom. It is a lot quicker that way. Click the bow once, then double click the string. Duoble click bow. Repeat. |
I tend to fletch in the banks that are located by my woodcutting spot. I always fletch in bulk, usually in the thousands, and that means that i'm going to be spending quite a bit of time at that bank. If i'm going to be there for quite a long time, I like to be in a populated area such as Seers bank. I might not be able to type, with all the clicking i'm doing, but at least I can read other people's conversations, thus breaking some of the boredom and monotony.
In my early playing days, I used to fletch all my bows before I made the trip back to the bank. It seemed less efficient and a lot more time consuming, so I stopped doing it that way and now stick to only doing it in bulk at the bank. These days, the only time I fletch before the bank is if I am power fletching willows.
While woodcutting, I equipt these items:
[edit] Mining and Smithing
|
| Prisoner As I DK is sent out to do hard labor. |
These two skills grabbed my attention since the day I started Runescape. I knew that they were a huge money maker, while also benefiting the player by giving them the option to create their own armor, versus buying it. As a non-member, I trained these skills excessively. In fact, mining was my highest skill the day I joined members, at a creditable level of 59.
These days I don't spend too much time mining or smithing. Although I still have plans to further my levels in both skills, I hardly find myself having time to invest into seriously training them. I do long for the day I am able to smith full rune... and one day, it will be possible.
If I decide to mine, I typically do it at the Coal trucks, east of Seers village, and I usually mine my mithril and adamant ores in the basement of the Heroes Guild.
While mining, I equipt these items:
When I am smelting, I tend to melt my bars either in the Falador furnace, or in Port Phasmatys' furnace.
I usually smith all my bars in Varrock, just south of the west bank.
[edit] Crafting
|
| My current crafting stock. |
There is really only one reason I bother advancing this skill, and that reason is Jewellery. My intended goal is to be able to craft my own glory's, possibly even push myself to be able to craft onyx pieces.
This has been a very slow process for me, as I gain most of my experience in Crafting from spinning flax, crafting jewellery, blowing molten glass, and occasionally by turning some blue dragonleather into armor.
[edit] Hunter
|
| My Hunter's gear. |
Lately, i've been spending a lot of time working on my Hunter skill, either by trapping Red Chinchompas down in the hunting jungle, south of Feldip Hills, or by catching implings in the Impetuous Impulses mini-game.
|
| As I DK hunting Red Chinchompas. |
Impetuous Impulses happens to be my newest favorite addition to Runescape. Though the implings you catch aren't really good as far as hunting experience, they prove to drop some valueable and useful objects when you loot them. Currently, I am able to catch up to Ninja implings, and so far, I have received some excellent drops.
|
| Stop laughing at me you stupid impling! |
Some of these drops include:
- Blue Mystic gloves
- Blue Mystic boots
- Splitbark gauntlets
- Splitbark helms
- Rune warhammers
- Adamant kiteshield
- Onyx bolt tips
- Snakeskin boots
- Dragon daggers
- Rune scimitars
- Rune darts
- Rune throwing axes
- Red spiky vambraces
- Sinister keys
- Runite bars
- Many Ranarr seeds and various other seeds.
- Many Battlestaffs
- Many Gold bars
- Many Oak planks
- Many Prayer potions
- Many Black dragonhides
[edit] Herblore
|
| My current herblore stock. |
Herblore is skill that I frequently work on, as my short-term goal is to be able to make anti-fire potions. I hear that most people find this skill very hard to train, but I don't feel that way. The most time consuming part for me is gathering the second ingredient.
As far as ingredients are concerned, I used to get my unicorn horns from the two unicorns in between the Barbarian Village and Edgeville. I found that to be faster than getting them from the Ardougne zoo, using the fairy ring system. I used to get my snape grass from the coast of Waterbirth Island, while using the boat system in Rellekka to take me between Waterbirth and Miscellania, so I could bank in Etceteria. Now, with the addition of Fremennik Isles, you just have to start the quest and you can use the bank in Jatizso, which is much closer than the one in Etceteria.
I now get my unicorn horns and snape grass from the implings I catch, during the Impetuous Impulses mini-game. I get my limpwurt roots by two methods. First method: Killing monsters that drop them, such as Hill giants, Cockatrice, and Hobgoblins. Second method: Growing them in my flower patch, using my farming skill. I get my red spider's eggs from the spawn spot in either Varrock sewers or inside Karamja volcano.
I usually keep the potions I make for myself, but there are exceptions. When I have a healthy stock of prayer potions, I sell them for the rate of 7,000 coins for a 3 dose potion (2,333 coins per dose), and 9,000 coins for a 4 dose potion (2,250 coins per dose).
[edit] Quests
I'm really not fond of quests, but I still make it a point to try and complete them. I have no ambition to get a quest cape, seeing as you constantly have to complete the new quests in order to wear it. Too much maintenance, in my opinion.
Some of the quest story lines I enjoy, but I have to admit that I use a walkthrough, and half the time, I don't even pay attention to the storyline at all.

[edit] Controversies
[edit] The January 2007 Falador Riots
This day will forever stand out in my head.
January 02, 2007, Jagex decided to update their rules to make third party clients illegal in game, which in turn, started a mass gathering of protesters. Many worlds were affected by this, including the most talked about, world 27.
I, myself, joined in on the protest, as I had previously been using Blaze Rx before they decided to claim these clients "unfair". Since the 2nd of January, 2007, I have not used a third party client in fear of my account being banned.
I don't see as to how Blaze Rx and SwiftSwitch give an "unfair" advantage, but i'm an adult and I accept the fact that there are rules and regulations. I'm also mature enough to abide by them.
[edit] The Censor
I will be honest, I hate the damn thing. I understand it's purpose and I definitely agree that it needs to be there, especially for the younger and more immature crowd, but for the love of god, give us adults the ability to bypass it.
Naturally, I have a filthy mouth. I don't speak around children in such a manner, nor do I around strangers, but when i'm talking with other adults that I know, the obscenities tend to pour out of my mouth. Everytime I have a private conversation with my adult friends in-game, our conversations tend to look like a deranged form of "Mad-libs", and quite frankly, it's tiring trying to decipher what the conversation is actually about.
All I ask for is a simple option to be given, as to whether or not you wish to turn the in-game censor on and off. If that's too much to ask, then give those with legitimate proof of age the ability to log onto an adult (18+) server. I'm only asking for one (1) server.
[edit] Player Killing
I stand firm on my belief in PKing.
I work hard for everything I have. In real life and on RuneScape. I am not very good at accepting gifts, let alone asking or relying on handouts from people. The last thing I would want to be considered is a beggar or a leech.
In my opinion, someone who PK's is a bully. That guy, standing in the woods, waiting to take your whip and armor from you is the same guy who stood at your street corner every morning, threatening or actually beating you up for your lunch money. The guy standing over the ledge of the Green dragons, waiting until you're full on inventory, is the same guy that stands in alley-ways, looking to mug old women for their purse's.
It's ethics people. You don't go and beat someone up to take their stuff. Not in real life and not in a game.
Again, in my opinion, a bully is a form of a leech because he/she relies on benefiting from the handicap of another person; in this case, combat experience. These people aren't morally far off from being out-right beggars.
[edit] Coins versus GP
I think this arguement is ridiculous. I think most people understand that coins and GP mean the same thing, in-game. So what's the big deal?
It's like complaining that someone is saying addy, instead of Adamantite.
Get over it.
[edit] Make All option
Initially, I had thought that this was a great update that Jagex had released. I quickly found many problems with this system for me, personally, and I changed my view. Now, I wish that the old system was still in place. Why, you ask?
My biggest problem is the speed in which you make all items. This is severely frustrating and, in turn, makes skilling far less enjoyable and far more time consuming.
Examples:
[edit] Fletching and Crafting
Let's take fletching.
First, I'd take my 1k yew logs and cut them into yew longs. With the new system in place, I now have a "make all" option, along with the previous "Make 1", "Make 5", Make "10", and "Make X" options that were available. Great, the system actually benefits me. Now I don't have to click the "Make X" option, and physically type the number 33 into my keyboard and press enter (I use 33 because I have an inventory full of 27 logs and... well, typing 33 is easier than 27 or 28). In that situation, the new system does benefit me.
As far as crafting flax into bowstrings, the new system has helped me out in the same way that it did for cutting my longbows. I can "Make all" instead of "Make X"; saving me a few milliseconds, or perhaps seconds, in the fact that I dont have to use my keyboard anymore.
Now, here's the big problem. Yes, it's everyones problem, at least every skillers problem. With the new system in place, you can not string bows singularly. You have to use one of the "Make" options. This puts a serious cramp in my fletching skill production. Now I am forced to wait for the game to finish stringing my bows, and the speed at which it goes is remarkably slower than mine. I'd say that for every 1 inventory of bows that the game strings for me, I could have strung 2 - 3 inventories of bows.
[edit] Herblore
Similiar problems can be found with the "Make all" option in aspects of Herblore. In order to mix potions, you have to wait for the game to mix them. No longer can you choose to mix them yourself, at your speed. Herbs into vials, secondaries into unfinisheds. Again, the difference in speed between the game and me is remarkably different.
Adding herbs to swamp tar is also game controlled, which was not the case previously.
I have found that grinding certain secondary ingredients with a pestle and mortar still work in the old fashion, meaning: You can manually grind them down at your speed. Some of these items include:
- Unicorn horn
- Birds nest
- Blue dragon scale
- Desert goat horn
- Chocolate bar
- Kebbit teeth
[edit] Clan Chat interface
I really like the Clan chat, minus a few small problems.
I don't like how the chat doesn't remember me when I log back in, especially if it is my own clan chat room.
I also have found that when they added the whole interface, they made it impossible to talk to anyone in a private message while in a bank or shop inventory, as Jagex have taken away the smiley icon that accesses your friends list. In fact, Jagex took almost all the icons off of the interface while in such inventories.
[edit] As I DK: Drop Records
I decided I was going to start tallying some of my kill drops. Perhaps I will also start to tally my loot I receive from catching implings. In any case, I will record all this information over here.
