Behind the Scenes (abbreviated BTS) updates are generally informative articles on future updates or updates in progress. They provide a small preview of soon-to-be-released updates. Beginning in April of 2005, Jagex began posting a Behind the Scenes update at the start of each month. These updates were replaced with Development Diaries after Mark Gerhard, the new CEO of Jagex, was appointed in 2009, February 2009 beinh the last update since Gerhard's appointment. However, in June 2010, Jagex decided to bring Behind the Scenes back, with BTS videos being posted in RuneScape's official YouTube channel.

This is, however, only a plan, not a promise that a particular update will be released in a particular way or at a particular time. To get you the highest quality updates as quickly as possible, we usually keep on tweaking and testing right up until the moment before release, so, sometimes, things change or take a bit longer than expected. We aren’t afraid to change our plan if necessary, as we will never launch an update before it is ready.
