* Mod Ramen will fix an issue with Nex: Angel of Death becoming aggressive to different players.
Dungeoneering Rewards - Ninja Focus
  +
* Raids will receive improvements, such as reasons to do Raids more often; a better grouping system; reducing the amount of players required; improving the jellyfish (e.g. by giving buffs from killing it); and a gold version of the Daredevil title. The title would require the player to complete all Raids feats in one run without dying.
A March Power to the Players poll determined the Ninja team would focus on Dungeoneering reward improvements, with an ETA of May. ===Evolution of Combat===
+
Abyssal Slayer creatures
  +

On the 11th April 2014, several combat improvement updates were mentioned. These include special attacks, 138 combat level calculation, monster aggression, interface changes, balancing, PvP mechanics, and PvP content.

  +
Mod Shogun designed 3 new Abyssal Slayer monsters during the Game Jam 2017. They are currently awaiting graphical work and some minor tweaks. They will be Chthonian demons from the Abyss:

  +
* Abyssal savage (requiring level 95 Slayer to kill)
The following timeline was given:

  +
* Abyssal beast (requiring level 105 Slayer to kill)<!--image says abyssal hound, but Shogun says beast: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/177206626514632704/434741092823597069/unknown.png -->
  +
* Abyssal lord (requiring level 115 Slayer to kill)
  +
  +
All of these will be options that players will be able to choose in place of an abyssal demons task. The new monsters will each have the same teleporting mechanic as abyssal demons, with the abyssal lord also dealing damage to the player while doing so. As with regular abyssal demons, the effects of darklight and abyssalbane ammunition will work against the new monsters.
  +
  +
The abyssal savage will be a harder hitting version of an abyssal demon; though it will attack using magic. The abyssal savage will have a laser attack which the player must avoid by moving at least one step away from the savage. The abyssal lord will feature the most complex mechanics. Mod Shogun is aiming for them to have 2 special effects. One of these will be that, after the player has dealt a certain amount of damage to the abyssal lord, it can summon high-hitting minions which attack the player. Some of the minions' damage will be negated by Protect from Magic.

Microtransactions
Invention skill
  +
Live Events Team are currently working on updating Treasure Hunter with the following changes:
In the fourth live Q&A session Mod Mark confirmed that two new skills would be released. One would be a gathering skill like Mining and Woodcutting (Divination) and the other would be a production skill like Crafting (Invention). In a November 2012 Behind the Scenes the new skills were described as "designed to suit the old-school, yet complement the entire game" since it was modelled "on some of our oldest and dearest content." The August 2013 Behind the Scenes pushed the time for the second skill back to 2014.

  +
* Re-balancing base reward table to provide more valuable items.
During RuneFest 2013 the second skill was revealed to be the Invention skill.

  +
* Rework hearts of ice to make them more beneficial.
  +
* Add life cycle system for new and existing Treasure Hunter items to be repeatedly available, and eventually freely available. The current plan is for Treasure Hunter exclusive items to become available through Solomon's General Store or time-limited events after 1 year; available through Thaler/a fragment system similar to elite skilling outfits another year later; and become freely available some time after that.

Miscellaneous
In January, a Power to the Players Dragonstone poll included the Invention skill vs the elf city Prifddinas. The winner was the elf city (ETA July/August) and so the Invention skill will be developed after.

Elite Combat Mobs
It was announced in the June 2013 Behind the Scenes article that Jagex is working on an update to add "Elite Combat Mobs" for training in Combat for the toughest high-level players.

Construction
In a development blog, Mod Mark commented that Jagex was planning to release many more rooms and the Menagerie was only the start. What the new rooms could be is unknown.

During the fourth live Q&A session, Mod Mark announced that two big updates would come to the Construction Skill during 2013. One such update would be a graphical rework of the house. There would also be an update to make parts of the house for only the owner to train with. Some possible ideas that were suggested were player owned streets, where players can live alongside their friends in an instanced world. At approximately thirty minutes into the session, Mod Mark said that he wanted to bring back an idea from 2002, where you could buy land and tweak it to your own desires. During 2013 Mod Jack said they were planning to revamp the skill in such a way that they are looking into the possibilities of having around 20 instanced plots for people to see their house, houses of friends or random players' houses around the world; for instance in the middle of Varrock. They also said they want to turn it onto a 'house-building' skill, rather than having it be the 'pointless furniture building' skill it is today. With NPCs requesting certain things, the player building it and handing it in for an experience reward (similar to how Dungeoneering experience is awarded). They also plan to give players more option to style their whole house in to the theme of gods, also the amount of possible gods will be increased (i.e.: more than just Saradomin, Guthix or Zamorak).

In the 2014 March Q&A, Mod Dean commented on development:

Summoning
On Runefest 2013 Mod Jack said that Jagex wants to rework the Summoning skill so that players do not only train Summoning by making pouches, but also receive summoning experience when they use familiars in combat or skilling activities, making people want to have their familiars out. They also make it possible for familiars to level up, making older/lower level familiars still useful for higher levels. To make this viable they also intend to differentiate between familiars a lot better e.g.: different abilities that can be used in different circumstances, depending on which pet is used.

Agility
During RuneFest 2013 Mod Jack said Jagex wants to rework the Agility skill. They will be removing run energy entirely. This is because the intent to make skilling faster by training agility is currently only done so through Agility's effect on run energy. The idea is to make the impact of this effect more direct.

* One specific idea of this rework is to make inventory skilling (when using the Make-X interface) faster. The time required to complete an action in another skill will be affected directly by making actions require less time; or by increasing the change to more than one at once (similar to the Varrock armour gives a player the chance of mining or smelting two ores).

* Another idea is to provide the player with more and/or more useful teleports, the higher their level is. Yet another is to make more use for shortcuts.

Lastly, they also want to make the whole training experience less repetitive and more varied.

In the 2014 March Q&A, Mod Dean commented on development:

Mining and Smithing
During RuneFest 2013 Mod Jack said Jagex wants to rework both the Mining and Smithing skills. He mentioned how little sense the levels make (e.g.: top-levels in both skills to make level 50 Rune Armour). They are looking into making the mining and smithing requirements similar to the Attack and Defence requirements, as well as adding in more ores and metals for the levels above that (e.g.: a metal named Necronium for the level 70 tier, a resource used in the third age to make armour and weapons, which was lost after the Gielinorian God Wars). Since higher level equipment already exists (like Dragon and Barrows), they intend to buff these weapons a little (to help them retain their value), as well as give higher levelled smiths the ability to increase their use and power by fusing them with player-made equipment of the same tier.

Mod Jack described the smithing skill as followed: get a valuable ore, smelt it into a less valuable bar, and smith it into a worthless sword. He saw this as a broken mechanic, and wants players to be able to fuse identical swords into better swords (e.g.: two normal swords create one better sword with 'plus 1'; two 'plus one' swords produces a 'plus two' sword; all the way to a 'plus 5', which will be called Master works, these are to be used with the Dragon or Barrows equipment, boosting it even further to the highest possible for that level).

For Mining in particular, they intend to make Deposit Boxes near mining sites to eliminate the dropping of ores (an unintended feature of the skill that they wish to get rid of). They will further rebalance both mining and smithing with this in mind. Additionally, they want to add more pickaxes.

They also intend to give people something more than just access to making a tier of weapons or armour, although they haven't yet figured out what it may be.

If this goes well, they see this as a template for other skills as well, like Crafting and Fletching.

This novice quest is set to be released April 2014. It is the first of two secret quests mentioned in the 2014 March VIP Q&A.

Rite of Passage (Signature Heroes quest series)
A 6th Age quest in development by Mod Raven. This quest will be about travelling to the Aviansie homeworld, a harsh planet named Abbinah, and helping a young Aviansie with his 'rite of passage.' It will also feature Armadyl's backstory, but probably not Armadyl himself. However, in the 2014 March VIP Q&A Mod Osbourne mentioned Rite of Passage will be polled in an upcoming quest poll: "If you want to get answers to your questions, pick the Rite of Passage in the upcoming quest poll.". In the Future Quests Pollcast, Mod Osbourne confirmed that the Aviansie quest mentioned in the quest poll was indeed Rite of Passage.

Mourning's Ends Part III & Prifddinas (Elf quest series)
In the 2014 March Q&A, Mod Osborne mentioned that Prifddinas will be released in two batches of four clans. The first batch is planned for September, and the other later in the year. Mod John A mentioned that access to Prifddinas will be unlocked at the end of Mourning's Ends Part III. The quest is planned to be released before the city, giving players who complete the quest immediate access to Prifddinas once it gets released.

In the Elf City Q&A, Mod Osborne mentioned that Prifddinas will likely not involve any world events or Seren. Instead, Seren is likely to have have her own content, distinguished from Prifddinas or Mourning's Ends Part III.

They are also considering making Prifddinas "the Varrock of high levels", perhaps with something like the Grand Exchange.

During Runefest 2013, Mod Osborne commented on Seren and said that this may take the form of one or two world events where the Goddess Seren will have to be put together. These world events may be peaceful and cooperative, rather than the first and second that are more confrontational. Mod Osborne also believes it's possible to do some low level, post-world event, story content for Seren (i.e. without the requirements of Regicide, Temple of Light, etc.). However, regardless, there must be a grandmaster quest for the elves, that will reveal who the Dark Lord is, allow the player to meet Baxtorian, the 8 Elven clans/families, etc.

Please see the Prifddinas page for more information regarding the city and polls concerning Prifddinas.

In the 2014 March VIP Q&A, Mod Osbourne commented on Fossil Island:

Mobile Runescape
At the beginning of October, a poll was released on the website, asking players what feature they would like to see most in a RuneScape mobile app.

On 17 December 2013, the RunescapeCompanion web app was released, allowing players to use Friends Chat, Clan Chat and private messaging from mobile devices.

RuneScape Dutch
In the fourth live Q&A session at 1:03:50, a question was asked about when RuneScape Spanish would be released. It was also confirmed that RuneScape Dutch was in consideration. Latin American Spanish was subsequently released on 24 April 2013, leaving only Dutch to be released.

Future update
This article contains information about an upcoming update.
It should consist only of facts from official Jagex releases and not speculation or predictions. For further details, see our future content policy.

This page is a list of upcoming RuneScape updates.

Combat

Combat fixes

 • Mod Daze is working on making Telos more accessible for players who are colourblind.[1] Telos' "so much power" queue will correctly clear on phase transition.[2] Telos' anima bar will reset if using Immortality in phase 5.[3] When siphoning from fonts in a Telos fight, Telos will be untargeted so that golems take priority in the render order.[4]
 • Mod Ramen will fix an issue with Nex: Angel of Death becoming aggressive to different players.[5]
 • Raids will receive improvements, such as reasons to do Raids more often; a better grouping system; reducing the amount of players required; improving the jellyfish (e.g. by giving buffs from killing it); and a gold version of the Daredevil title. The title would require the player to complete all Raids feats in one run without dying.[6]
 • Gizmos will be visible on augmented items when examining another player.[7]
 • Clan Wars' rule selection and wars in progress interfaces will be updated.[8]

Abyssal Slayer creatures

Abyssal creatures concept art

Concept art of the Abyssal creatures by Mod NicePants.

Mod Shogun designed 3 new Abyssal Slayer monsters during the Game Jam 2017. They are currently awaiting graphical work and some minor tweaks. They will be Chthonian demons from the Abyss:

 • Abyssal savage (requiring level 95 Slayer to kill)
 • Abyssal beast (requiring level 105 Slayer to kill)
 • Abyssal lord (requiring level 115 Slayer to kill)

All of these will be options that players will be able to choose in place of an abyssal demons task. The new monsters will each have the same teleporting mechanic as abyssal demons, with the abyssal lord also dealing damage to the player while doing so. As with regular abyssal demons, the effects of darklight and abyssalbane ammunition will work against the new monsters.

Some of the minions' damage will be negated by Protect from Magic.[9]

Other

RuneScape Mobile

Main article: RuneScape Mobile

Mod Pi and several others are working on RuneScape Mobile - an upcoming version of RuneScape and Old School RuneScape announced on 17 July 2017. OSRS Mobile was originally planned for release in Winter 2017, but is currently planned to be released on 30 October 2018.[10] There is currently no planned release date for RuneScape Mobile yet.

Interface scaling

The interface will be made scalable as part of the upcoming Mobile client, and it will work also on the PC client.[11]

Group Ironman

Mod Ramen will work on Group Ironman Mode which will allow linked Ironman players to interact freely with each other and participate in group bosses and Dungeoneering, was announced at RuneFest 2017.[12] Features this may include are a group banking system, leaderboards, and a guild including Mr Ex and other ironman related content.[13] Group ironman is currently on hold since engine work is needed (group banking, other features) and the engine team is completely dedicated to RS Mobile.[14]

The first Developer Blog for the update was posted on 15 June and revealed the following plans for the mode:

 • Players will be able to form groups of 2-5 ironman players. Groups will be classified according to size, with each size having a different chat badge and Ironman Armour icon, and potentially different hiscores.
 • Leaving a group will result in a group ironman account being downgraded to a regular account.
 • If a player leaves a group then the group will be able to recruit a freshly created group ironman account only.[15]

Microtransactions

Live Events Team are currently working on updating Treasure Hunter with the following changes:

 • Re-balancing base reward table to provide more valuable items.
 • Rework hearts of ice to make them more beneficial.
 • Add life cycle system for new and existing Treasure Hunter items to be repeatedly available, and eventually freely available. The current plan is for Treasure Hunter exclusive items to become available through Solomon's General Store or time-limited events after 1 year; available through Thaler/a fragment system similar to elite skilling outfits another year later; and become freely available some time after that.[16][17]

Miscellaneous

The following fixes / tweaks are planned for future updates:

 • Mod Edge has added a better interface for skyboxes and filters. The chosen skybox and filter will persist across log ins. He may also develop customisable skyboxes.[18][19] Mod Edge is also working on improving the beasts interface in legacy mode; the interface will be grey like other legacy interfaces.[20] The follower information interface will be grey in legacy interface mode.[21] Finally, Mod Edge will add an option to sort alphabetically will be added to the emote interface.[22]
 • Mod Osborne and Mod Ramen are working on adding examine texts to The Lost Grove.[23]
 • Mod Mohawk is working on teleporting and creating teleports in Dungeoneering to be taken off the global cooldown.[24]
 • Mod Orion is working on item examines to have Grand Exchange prices and alchemy values added to them.[25]
 • Mod Harrison will add an Agility shortcut to the eastern wall of the first island of The Islands That Once Were Turtles to allow easier access to clue scroll locations.[26]
 • "Buy X" will be added for the Arc reward shops.[27]
 • Summoning stores' interfaces will be graphically updated.[28]
 • More functionality will be added to NXT, such as depth field and volumetric lighting, like the lighting used in Menaphos.[29]
 • The bug report interface's messages about already known bugs will be improved to include more known live issues.[30]
 • Luck items will be made to improve the chance of getting Player-owned farm egg and baby animal drops from monsters.[31]
