[edit] Summoning
- Before the release of Summoning, there was a glitch that allowed players to summon a Karamthulhu for a short time.
- Before the release of Summoning, a lady would periodically come out of the pet shop in Yanille to walk her dog. This led to small events where players would gather around the pet shop to see for themselves.
- The first player to reach level 30 did it in about 5 hours. After 1 week there were 33,750 players with one at level 77, whereas Hunter had 124K and 1 level 93.
- On the month of release, the loading screen was changed in favour of the new skill. Along with that, the RuneScape homepage was also changed.
[edit] Ranged
- The maximum ranged bonus a player can achieve is +223.
[edit] Herblore
- Herblore cannot be trained to level 2, as it can not be trained at all before completing the quest, Druidic Ritual - which instantly levels you to level 3.
[edit] Prayer
- The maximum prayer bonus possible for members, disregarding requirements and the lack of other bonuses for items wielded, is +48. The cheapest option to achieve the maximum prayer bonus is shown below:
- God Mitre +5
- Any Skill Cape (t) +4 (The most difficult piece of prayer equipment to obtain; replace with vestment cloak for +3 prayer)
- Any God Stole +10
- God Crozier +6
- Proselyte Hauberk +8
- Falador Shield 3 (Finish all Falador Achievement Diary Tasks) +7
- Monk's Robe bottom +5
- White Gloves +1
- White Boots +1
- Explorer's ring (Finish Lumbridge Achievement Diary Beginner Tasks) +1
- For Free-to-Play players, the maximum prayer bonus is 25:
- Holy Symbol (No requirement) +8
- Corrupt dragon mace (60 attack requirement) +5
- Monk's Robe top (No requirement) +6
- Monk's robe bottom (No requirement) +5
- Explorer's ring (Finish Lumbridge Achievement Diary Beginner Tasks) +1
- For members, the smallest prayer bonus is -5 due to Zanik's Crossbow.
- Interestingly enough, in the Prayer menu, it says that prayers that have a level requirement less than 10 appear as 01, 04, 07, and so on.
- It is possible to obtain 135/99 prayer with the effect of the Ancient Mace special attack (Absolute maximum of 36 at the moment).
[edit] Hitpoints
- When RuneScape 2 (as it was then known) was released, the experience required for level 10 in any skill was slightly raised. This meant that characters with no extra Hitpoints experience in RuneScape Classic were brought to RuneScape 2 with only 9 Hitpoints. The minimum combat level is still 3 for those players.
- Hitpoints is the only skill where you don't start at level 1, you start at level 10.
- The monster with the least amount of hitpoints is a multiple-way tie between Weakened Delrith, Carnivorous chinchompa, Miscellanian citizens and guards, Evil Creature, the Chinchompa, and Lucien, all with 1 Hitpoint.
[edit] Smithing
- In the early days, Smithing was considered one of the best skills for making money. As such, Jagex kept anvils and furnaces far away as an attempt to prevent people from levelling Smithing too quickly. However, this practice has often been considered obsolete ever since banks were able to hold items.
- In early 2001, Smithing had very different requirements. For example, players needed level 96 Smithing to make steel plates rather than 48.
- On 5 November 2007, the Smith-X option was released. This allowed a chosen number of items to be smithed on an anvil at a time.
[edit] Cooking
- Before Fishing was added in June 2001, the experience for cooking meat depended on the player's cooking level, namely, 25 + 1.75 * level.
- Before pies were added in March 2001, the amount of healing provided by bread and meat (the only food available at the time) depended on the player's Cooking level.
- Tks was the first player to reach level 99 Cooking.
- Cooking tied with Fletching were the first non-combat skills to get 10,000 users with a level of 99.
- Cooking is one of the fastest skills a player can reach level 99 in, it only taking two weeks from levels 1-99 (assuming you cook all day and have all the raw food prepared), at around six hours a day.
[edit] Woodcutting
- In early history, only regular trees could be cut. The experience given was based on the player's woodcutting level, or 28.25 + level * 1.75. After fletching was added, it was briefly reduced to 12.5 experience, and then raised to 25. While Jagex compensated for this by adding one-click woodcutting, many players (especially free users) were upset that reaching a high-level woodcutting would take many times longer.
- There had been many un-continued random events that are connected to Woodcutting such as Dr. Ford, Ent and Tree Spirit but these were removed for numerous reasons. Tree Spirits can still be fought at the Enchanted Valley.
- The woodcutting speed of collecting logs depends on the skill level and on the type of axe. Better axe and higher skill level reduces the time to collect a full inventory of logs. The exact impact of axes and skill levels on cutting rate of a single player are unknown and often seemed to be based on luck.
- Using a herring (cooked or raw) on any tree will prompt the message "This is not the mightiest tree in the forest." Also, using a herring on either door of the Grand Tree will prompt the message " It can't be done."
These are both references to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
[edit] Hunter
[edit] Main Page Changes
On the day of the skill's release, the two rock pillars on each side of the RuneScape main page were replaced with totem poles, on which were drawings of imps, lizards, and razorbacked kebbits. A few pawprints were also scattered around the tiled background.
[edit] Login Screen Changes
The login screen was changed as well. A piece of graahk fur was hung on each side of the screen, and a pair of orange salamanders clung onto the pillars. A box trap appeared below the login box, while a butterfly was placed on the top-left corner of the login box. A patch of grass grew on the bottom of the screen, parting at the middle. The burning rune symbols were replaced with pawprints, lizards, kebbits, and butterflies.
[edit] In-game Changes
A cave was placed in three of the hunting grounds, where those who have completed the Eagle's Peak quest may fly to and from the Eagle's Peak mountain.
[edit] Magic
In early 2001, there were two magic skills, Good Magic and Evil Magic. However, with the introduction of a new magic system, the latter skill was removed, and the former skill changed to Magic. For example, if the player had level 50 Good Magic and level 40 Evil Magic, he would keep level 50 Magic, and the experience for the Evil Magic was discarded. Because of this, some players were upset that they lost money for training their lower magic skill, and that the experience was thrown away instead of carried over. The evil magic spells were Confuse, Thick Skin, Shock Bolt, Elemental Bolt, Fear, and the good magic spells were Chill Bolt, Burst of Strength, Camouflage, Rock Skin, and Wind bolt.
Prior to the introduction of RuneScape 2, in the 2-D game, spells were universally represented by a simple, flying blue star, which proved difficult to distinguish from arrows, which were green stars. Also, in the original RuneScape, players were capable of casting magic spells while wearing full rune armour, leading to a massive imbalance in favour of high-level mages.
In addition, in RuneScape Classic, magic spells could not be cast for long unless the target was occupied by a fight; the magic attack was automatically abandoned as melee combat began. Prior to the advent of multi-combat areas in RuneScape 2, high-level mages (as well as archers) would frequently steal the kills of lesser warriors by attacking while a melee fighter engaged the NPC in direct combat, leading to all experience and loot being taken by the mage. The mage remained safe the entire combat, and quickly moved on to the next fight without respect for the players whose battles they commandeered. Thus came part of the motivation behind making the experience gained based on the damage dealt in RS2, rather than on all experience going to the player who killed the NPC.
In RuneScape Classic, each spell gave the fixed experience using the formula 2 * spell level + 20. Jagex explains that the reduction of Magic experience in RuneScape 2 was due to the fact that runes were easier to obtain on the new version.
[edit] Construction
- Initially, Construction seems to be an extremely money-intensive skill. It may be that Jagex have intended player-owned houses as gold sinks, and the intention is to take considerable amounts of cash out of the game.
- The watch, sextant and chart cannot be used in your house, trying to use it will give the message: "The sextant doesn't seem to work here".
- In RuneScape Classic, there was a skill that had no use called Carpentry. The skill today of Construction was an updated version of this dead skill.
- Cursed You was the first player to get 99 Construction; the house party that followed led to the notorious World 111 Glitch. Cursed You was banned in a few days for real world trading, not for causing the Falador Massacre.
- On the month of release, the login screen was changed in favour of this new skill.
[edit] Slayer
- The idea of some slayer monsters having a special quality that makes them normally unattackable is similar to the various tricks Herakles and Perseus employed in Greek mythology.
- Drop rates of abyssal whips, dragon legs, and dragon boots have been greatly lowered from their initial values. This is because many people were getting vast quantities of these items in a single trip.
- Slayer levels up at 1 xp per Hitpoints a monster has, but the player will receive 1.33 Hitpoint XP per Hitpoints a monster has when killed. Therefore, Hitpoints will usually reach level 99 before Slayer, causing the Slayer cape to be trimmed. By using the Dwarf Multicannon, which offers Ranged XP but does not give experience to Hitpoints, and by using controlled attack modes to ensure that combat experience is as low and distributed as possible, it is possible for absolutely any player to achieve an untrimmed Slayer cape.
[edit] Farming
- It was originally possible to dig up living, but not fully grown allotments. This allowed players to plant seeds, and dig them up right afterwards, allowing them to get the planting experience again and again, in quick succession. This was quickly fixed by Jagex. It it now only possible to dig up dead or fully grown patches.
