You have been summoned to the Seers' Village courthouse to work on the case of The Frog Prince vs The People. Please present yourself to the court clerk at your earliest convenience.

Fingerprint report[]

There was no crime scene to collect fingerprints from. Suspect is a frog and has no fingerprints to speak of. The ink slid off his fingers, anyway.

Circumstances and evidence report[]

Suspect: Frog Prince

Case Background: Flora filed suit against the frog for claiming he was of royal birth in order to obtain a kiss. On arrest, the following was found on the frog's person:

  1. Crown

The following was supplied by Flora:

  1. Princess dress

Highly recommended that further interviews are conducted with the Frog Prince, Flora, and the arresting officer.

All witnesses are present at the courthouse, ready for interviewing.

Character background[]

Suspect: Frog Prince

Background: The frog claims to be from another plane of existence. He's very vague about its location, and claims no one may travel to it except for him.

Victim: Flora

Background: Flora is a farmer. She was born in Rimmington, but her work takes her all over the world. She dreams of a life of easy and prosperity.

Highly recommended that further interviews are conducted with the Frog Prince, Flora, and the arresting officer.

All witnesses are present at the courthouse, ready for interviewing.

Pre-trial[]

Interviews[]

The Frog Prince[]

  • Player: Hello. I'm investigating an allegation that you impersonate royalty in order to get kisses.
  • Frog Prince: It beggars belief how royalty is treated here; however, I shall bend to your customs. You may proceed.
    • The kissing incident.
      • Player: Can you tell me about the kissing incident?
      • Frog Prince: Once upon a time, I was cursed to be a frog forever. The only way to undo it was to find a girl and gain her kiss. Being of royal birth in my homeland, I would find a wandering girl and explain who I was, and that I needed a kiss to return to my natural form. Unfortunately, this Flora girl thought a kiss meant we were to get married and she would become a princess. But how can I? I am forbidden from marrying anyone on this plane, and she is but a commoner.
      • Player: If she kissed you, why are you still a frog?
      • Frog Prince: That is the worst part of it. A kiss only removes the curse for a short while. I do not know how I'll be rid of it for good.
    • Lineage.
      • Player: Do you have any proof that you are a prince?
      • Frog Prince: I have my crown, do I not? Anyway, royalty does not need to prove itself, it is in the blood.
    • Dress.
      • Player: You gave the dress to Flora, after the kissing incident, didn't you? I believe you referred to it as a 'princess dress'?
      • Frog Prince: It is customary in my country to give a gift to those who help you. I never referred to it as a 'princess dress'. I simply sent one of my minions to get a gift for Flora.
      • Player: So, where did the princess dress come from?
      • Frog Prince: I believe it was one of your 'fancy dress' shops.
      • Player: So you didn't intend it to mean you were getting married?
      • Frog Prince: Of course not!
    • I don't have any more questions.
      • Player: I don't have any more questions.

Flora[]

  • Flora: What do you want?
  • Player: I need to ask you some questions about your case against the Frog Prince.
  • Flora: Prince? Ha!
    • The kissing incident.
      • Player: Can you tell me about the kissing incident?
      • Flora: I was minding my own business, doing my chores, when frogs started hopping out of my mop bucket! They were ribbiting that the Frog Prince wanted to speak with me. So, I went with 'em and this frog in a crown told me he was a prince, that he'd marry me and take me away from this dreary life, if only I'd give him a kiss.
      • Player: Did he really say all that?
      • Flora: I may not have it word-for-word, but that's what he meant.
      • Player: If you did kiss him, why is he still a frog?
      • Flora: Exactly! He must scam kisses from every unsuspecting girl. He can't really be a human; that prince thing is just a chat-up line.
    • Royalty.
      • Player: What gave you the idea that he was a prince and that he'd marry you?
      • Flora: Well, he said he was a prince, and there's that crown on his head. Also, after I kissed him, he gave me this princess dress! It doesn't get much clearer than that does it?
      • Player: Well, actually it does. A proper proposal would have made it a whole lot clearer.
    • Marriage.
      • Player: Why are you so bent on marrying him?
      • Flora: I spend all day weeding: weeding the farm patches, weeding my garden, weeding my house of all the weeds I accidentally dragged in when weeding. It's a dull life. Who wouldn't want to be a princess?
      • Player: But he's a frog! You don't really want to marry a frog, do you?
      • Flora: If he's a prince, I don't care! It can't be worse than weeding.
    • Why are you in jail?
      • Player: I know why the frog is in jail, but why are you? You're the one accusing him of a crime.
      • Flora: The Judge felt if I was foolish enough to want to marry a frog, I might wander off with any old fool that came along. So he said I needed to stay here until the court date.
      • Player: That's not the nicest thing to say, but I see what he means.
    • I don't have any more questions.
      • Player: I don't have any more questions.

Arresting officer[]

  • Player: Hi, I need to ask some questions about the Frog Prince case.
  • Arresting officer: Well, I was the arresting officer, so I'd be a good person to ask.
    • The kissing incident.
      • Player: What do you know about the kissing incident that led to the frog's arrest?
      • Arresting officer: Only what's in the case report. I had heard other reports of frogs appearing and asking for kisses, though.
      • Player: Do you think there's any truth to these stories?
      • Arresting officer: I think so. The Mysterious Old Man mentioned that he wasn't surprised the frog was being arrested.
    • The arrest.
      • Player: Could you tell me about the arrest?
      • Arresting officer: Certainly. The frog was living in a cave, inaccessible from normal routes.
      • Player: How did you manage to arrest him?
      • Arresting officer: The Mysterious Old Man lent us a hand. He was able to locate the frog, and got a few of us in there to arrest him.
      • Player: So, the frog lives on another plane of reality?
      • Arresting officer: It would appear so, yes.
      • Player: Would you consider where he lives to be a kingdom and him to be the ruler?
      • Arresting officer: Yes, I would actually. All the frogs in the cavern treat him as their leader. They also call him 'Prince', and 'Your Highness'.
    • I don't have any more questions.
      • Player: I don't have any more questions.

    • Your Honour, could you explain what I need to do?
    • Your Honour, I'd like to present evidence.
    • Your Honour, I'd like to call a witness.
      • If the player did not interview anyone prior to the trial:
        • Judge:' You haven't interviewed anyone. That's going to make it hard for you to ask them pertinent questions, don't you think?
      • Otherwise:
        • Frog Prince. (If interviewed prior to the trial)
          • Player: The [Prosecution/Defence] calls the Frog Prince.
          • The Frog Prince takes the stand)

Presenting evidence[]

Princess dress[]

  • Player: Ladies and Gentlemen, if I could draw your attention to the Prosecution Evidence #1: A princess dress
  • If prosecuting:
    • Player: I present the so-called 'princess' dress, given to Flora for services rendered. What was the poor girl to think, except that, by kissing the frog, she would become a princess? Clearly the frog was trying to misdirect her with false promises.
    • The jury agrees with your argument.
  • If defending:

Cross-examination[]

The Frog Prince[]

  • The kissing incident.
    • Player: Can you tell us about the kissing incident?
    • Frog Prince: Once upon a time, I was cursed to be a frog forever. The only way to undo it was to find a girl and gain her kiss. Being of royal birth in my homeland, I would find a wandering firl and explain who I was, and that I needed a kiss to return to my natural form. Unfortunately, this Flora girl thought a kiss meant we were to get married and she would become a princess. But how can I? I am forbidden from marying anyone on this plane, and she is but a commoner.
    • The jury doesn't know what to think about your argument.
  • Royal lineage
    • Player: Do you have any proof that you are a prince?
    • Frog Prince: I have my crown, do I not? Anyway, royalty does not need to prove itself, it is in the blood.
    • Player: Well, I might put on a crown too. That way I can be royal as well.
    • If prosecuting:
      • The jury agrees with your argument.
    • If defending:
      • The jury disagrees with your argument.
  • The dress.
    • If prosecuting:
      • The jury disagrees with your argument.
    • If defending:
      • The jury agrees with your argument.
  • That's all, for now.
    • Player: That's all, for now. Thank you.

Flora[]

  • The kissing incident.

    • Player: You don't seem too sure about your story, Flora.
    • If prosecuting:
      • The jury disagrees with your argument.
    • If defending:
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
  • Princess dress.
    • Player: I believe the frog gave you something after kissing him. Can you tell us what it was?
    • Flora: He gave me this white gown and called it a 'princess dress'. It doesn't get much clearer that we were going to get married, does it?
    • If prosecuting:
      • The jury agrees with your argument.
    • If defending:
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
  • Marriage.
    • Player: Why are you so bent on marrying him?
    • Flora: I spend all day weeding: weeding the farm patches, weeding my garden, weeding my house of all the weeds I accidentally dragged in when weeding. It's a dull life. Who wouldn't want to be a princess?

    • Arresting officer: Only what's in the case report. I had head other reports of frogs appearing and asking for kisses, though.
    • Player: Do you think there's any truth to these stories?
    • Arresting officer: I think so. The Mysterious Old Man mentioned that he wasn't surprised the frog was being arrested.
    • Player: That certainly confirms Flora's suspicion of the frog being a scammer.
    • If prosecuting:
      • The jury agrees with your argument.
    • If defending:
      • The jury disagrees with your argument.
  • The Arrest.
    • Player: Could you tell us about the arrest, please?
    • Arresting officer: Certainly. He was living in a cave, inaccessible from normal routes.
    • Player: How did you manage to arrest him?
    • Arresting officer: The Mysterious Old Man lent us a hand and got a few of us in there to arrest him.

Talking to the prosecutor[]

Only available if defending.

  • Player: Could you state your case for me?
  • Prosecutor: Sure.
  • Prosecutor: Would you like a summary or the full case?

Talking to the defender[]

Only available if prosecuting.

  • Player: Could you state your case for me?
  • Defender: Sure.
  • Defender: Would you like a summary or the full case?
    • Summary
      • Defender: My case rests on these points: The dress given to Flora was simply a gift. The frog is foreign and didn't understand the meaning, a simple miscommunication.
      • Defender: I called Flora to the stand and asked her about the dress. She thought it was a clear indication of marriage, but as there were no other such suggestions, it's circumstantial.
      • Defender: I then called the arresting officer. He confirmed that the frog is royalty from another plane of existence.
    • Full case

Summary[]

If prosecuting:

  • Which member of the Jury would you like to try to appeal to?
  • (Opens Jury selection interface)
  • If the player made enough correct choices in their argumentation:
    • Player: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, I have presented evidence that conclusively proves the Defendant is a fraud whose aim in life is to mislead and scam others.
    • Player: Flora was promised royalty, but she only became princess of her own disappointment. Whenever I'm promised land, wealth and power in exchange for a kiss from an animal, I expect that promise to be kept.
  • If the player did not make enough correct choices in their argumentation:
    • Player: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, I have presented evidence that the Defendant lies about his past and uses it to scam others.
    • Player: Poor Flora was scammed into giving the Frog Prince a kiss. She could have got any number of frog-based diseases, like gooey green-eye.
  • Judge: Very well. Now, the Defence may present their case.

The defence's case[]

Only if prosecuting.

  • Defender: Members of the Jury, I am going to present you with evidence that decisively proves the Frog Prince is innocent.
  • Defender: If I could refer you to the Prosecution's evidence, the princess dress. It seems that my client was only trying to be generous, offering Flora a gift in exchange for her help. The misinterpretation is all on her side. It is not my client's fault that she mistook a simple gift for a marriage propsal.
  • Defender: The Defence calls the arresting officer.
  • The arresting officer takes the stand
  • Defender: You arrested the Frog Prince. Could you tell us about it, please?
  • Arresting officer: Certainly. He was living in a cave, inaccessible from normal routes. Fortunately, the Mysterious Old Man helped us to locate him.
  • Defender: So, he does in fact live on another plane of reality?
  • Arresting officer: It would appear that way, yes.
  • Defender: Would you consider where he lives to be a kingdom and him to be the ruler?
  • Arresting officer: Yes, I would actually. All the frogs in the cavern treat him as their leader. They also call him 'Prince' and 'Your Highness'.
  • The jury reacts positively
  • Defender: The Defence calls Flora.
  • Flora takes the stand
  • Defender: I believe the frog gave you something after kissing him. Can you tell us what it was?
  • Flora: He gave me this white gown and called it a 'princess dress'. It doesn't get much clearer that we were going to get married, does it?
  • Defender: Actually, it does. A verbal or written proposal would have made it very clear but, as of yet, there is no proof he said anything of the sort.
  • The jury reacts positively
  • Judge: I think that will be enough. It's time for you to summarise your case to the Jury.
  • Defender: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, I have presented evidence that conclusively proves the Defendant is innocent with regard to these crimes.
  • Defender: My client has the misfortune of living with a curse. He asked for a little sympathy and help, and in return he got a lawsuit! If anyone is guilty here, it is Flora for attempting to slur the good name of my client.
