Starting Edit

Starting the tutorial for the first time Edit

  • Player: What's the matter?
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Oh, such a crisis here at A.R.M.S.!
    • Can I help?
      • Player: Can I help?
      • Junior Cadet Mal: Really? Rebellious mercenaries have made away with a cache of A.R.M.S.'s battle supplies, and all the other commanders are fighting a far-away battle. I've been left to 'hold the fort', but, being just one man, I don't think I can retrieve the stolen supplies.
      • Player: Don't worry, we'll sort this out.
      • Junior Cadet Mal: Great, let's go! There's no time to lose.
        • (Mobilising Armies tutorial begins)
    • What's A.R.M.S.?
      • Player: What's A.R.M.S.?
      • Junior Cadet Mal: The Army Recruitment and Mobilisation Society. We're here to make sure all war heroes and warriors can earn a living through honourable combat.
        • (Returns to previous options)

Continuing the tutorial upon interruption Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: You're back! I still need your help with the battle.
    • Okay, let's do this.
      • (Mobilising Armies tutorial continues)
    • Maybe some other time.
      • Player: Maybe some other time.
      • Junior Cadet Mal: Oh no, what am I to do?

Continuing officer training upon interruption Edit

  • So, can I continue with the officer training?
    • Player: So, can I continue with the officer training?
    • Junior Cadet Mal: Certainly!
      • (Officer training continues)
  • Sorry, wrong person.
    • Player: Sorry, wrong person.
    • Junior Cadet Mal: Oh, okay.

Battle Edit

 Camera controls Edit

  • Welcome to Mobilising Armies.
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Let's see if we can solve this together. First, we need to find your squads. At the moment, yours are coloured red.
  • Instructions: To change your view of the battlefield, use the Camera tab on your minigame interface. You can also use the keyboard arrow keys to move your view. Hold the 'Ctrl' button while pressing the arrow keys to rotate the view, or 'Shift' and the up/down arrow keys to change the camera's zoom.

Use the camera controls to find your other squads and then click on one (they're the red ones).

Selecting a squad Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: I hope they'll receive our commands. Best we try getting one to move.
  • Instructions: To move a squad, either click on the ground at your desired destination or, using the 'Squad Commands' tab, click on the 'Move' button and then your desired destination.

You'll find that there are two classes of squad: heavy squads (slow but strong in combat) and light squads (fast but weaker in combat). Their squad class is displayed in their name, on the 'Squad Commands' tab and by the shade of their armour.

Attempting to attack an enemy squad too early Edit

  • Game: You can't attack yet - that'll be covered shortly.

As a squad moves forward Edit

The squad you choose may say any of the following

  • Squad: Move it.
  • Squad: Off we go.
  • Squad: Quick march!
  • Squad: We like to move it.

Sending a squad to explore Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: A good start! Do you think that, if we start a squad exploring, we'll find any of the stolen equipment?
  • Instructions: To command a squad to explore, go to the 'Squad Commands' tab and click on the 'Explore' button.

Once a unit starts exploring, it will search for special treasure and bonuses - including potions that restore your squads' health - until ordered to do otherwise.

As a squad explores Edit

The squad you choose may say any of the following

  • Squad: Ah, buried treasure!
  • Squad: Arrr, buried treasure be mine!
  • Squad: Hunt the treasure down!
  • Squad: I spy with my little eye...
  • Squad: I'll explore over there.
  • Squad: Oooh, what's that over there?

Mercenaries attack Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: Oh no, the mercenaries are on our case! We need to attack and eliminate them to retrieve our stolen supplies. Your squads will retaliate when attacked but, to get the best out of them, you need to serve a direct order.
  • Instructions: To attack, you can either select your squad and right-click 'Attack-Squad' on an enemy, or go to the 'Squad Commands' tab, select the 'Attack' option and then click on an enemy squad. In this case, the enemy units are blue and mainly around the west of the map. Squads deal extra damage when attacking from behind or from special terrain.
  • Mercenaries: Prepare for annihilation!

Bringing in special units Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: It seems our squads need all the help they can get. A gnome glider should do some damage.
  • Instructions: In Mobilising Armies you will often use 'special units'. Using the 'Special Units' tab, click on the 'Glider' button followed by an 'enemy' unit.

Attempting to attack without special units Edit

  • Game: You should be using a special unit before you order any more attacks.

After attacking with a gnome glider special unit Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: Excellent! If we can just finish off the remaining enemy squads then it's crisis solved. We've got more gnome gliders to help you out with that.
  • Instructions: Instructions: Finish off the remaining enemy squads using what you've learnt so far. Keep the combat triangle in mind - as you can see on the top left overlay, certain races of squad have an advantage over others.

In future scenarios, you'll find other exciting commands and tasks to perform, but you've got the basics now.

During the battle Edit

As a squad attacks Edit

The attacking squad may say any of the following

  • Squad: Charge!
  • Squad: Cut them down.
  • Squad: Find them and slay them.
  • Squad: Hunt them down!
  • Squad: Slay them.
  • Squad: Steady, men.
  • Squad: Take them out.
  • Squad: The enemy is over there.
  • Squad: The enemy will perish!

As an attacked squad retaliates Edit

The squad being attacked may say any of the following

  • Squad: Attacking back!
  • Squad: Retaliating!

As a squad falls Edit

The squad falling may say any of the following

  • Squad: Argh! Run away!

Upon defeating all enemy squads Edit

  • Player: Victory!
  • Junior Cadet Mal: You did it! You showed some superb potential. They left the stolen supplies behind; just in time, too, as the other officers have returned. I was hoping you'd let me train you to become an officer and lead more battles!
  • Player: Most definitely.
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Great!
    • (Officer training begins)

Officer training Edit

A.R.M.S. Command Centre Edit

Talking to Junior Cadet Mal Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: This is the A.R.M.S. Command Centre for Mobilising Armies. Our mercenaries are all war heroes. They desire money, adrenaline, combat and glory to such a degree that they'll fight for anyone. We set this centre up to make the best use of their qualities, launching dangerous missions to outlying islands in search of treasure and fame.
  • Player: Fair enough. So, what are all these buildings used for?
  • Camera pans to recruitment room
  • Junior Cadet Mal: First, there is the recruitment room, where you can recruit and manage your army.
  • Camera pans to briefing rooms
  • Junior Cadet Mal: With an army, you'll be ready to proceed to the briefing rooms where you wait to join Mobilising Armies games.
  • Camera pans to special unit tent
  • Junior Cadet Mal: The special unit tent's where you can purchase special units to aid your squads.
  • Camera pans to officer tower
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Finally, there's the officer tower. Through victory, you can climb the floors and claim the rewards that you are due.
  • Camera returns to normal view
  • Junior Cadet Mal: [missing]

Talking to Junior Cadet Boff Edit

  • Player: Excuse me, sir.
  • Junior Cadet Boff: Ah, you're the one who helped Junior Cadet Mal in battle. Impressive. You should continue working with him.

Trading in commodities Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: Commanding an army isn't cheap, so we trade in commodities that help our armies in battle. Basically, if you can make a tradeable item, we'll exchange it for investment credit. This credit can be spent around the command centre to set up battles and claim your due rewards. Here's the list...
    • (Commodities list opens)
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Please bring me at least one commodity from the list.

Returning to Junior Cadet Mal Edit

Without any commodity in inventory Edit
  • Junior Cadet Mal: So, brought me any commodities?
    • Not yet. Can I see the list please?
      • (Commodities list opens)
    • Not yet. I'll be right back.
      • Player: Not yet. I'll be right back.
With a commodity in inventory Edit
  • Junior Cadet Mal: So, brought me any commodities?
  • Player: Yes.
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Then let me show you how to invest.
    • (Investment Credit Exchange opens)
  • Your items will be exchanged for investment credit, which can be used to buy things around the command centre. We'll keep a record of your credit, so you can keep your mind on more important things. You can simply select items from your inventory and then click on the Exchange button to invest. There's no going back, though, so make sure you're willing to give us the items you choose to exchange. At the bottom of the screen, you'll see items that are available in large quantities on the Grand Exchange. So, if you're looking to buy commodities, you'll find plenty of those items there. Talk to Mal next to make an investment.
    • (Investment Credit Exchange closes)
  • Talk to Mal to start an investment.

Making an investment Edit

  • Player: Can I invest now, please?
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Go ahead.
    • (Investment Credit Exchange opens)

After making an investment Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: Good job! [missing]

Getting squads Edit

  • Player: What should I be doing now?
  • Junior Cadet Mal: It's time to go get some squads! Go to the squad recruiters in the south-west building of this compound. I've already given you 1,000 investment credits, which should cover the expense.

Squad recruitment Edit

Talking to a recruiter Edit

First time Edit
  • Player: I believe you can help me recruit some squads.
  • Elven recruiter/Dwarven recruiter/Goblin recruiter: Definitely!
    • (Squad Recruitment opens)
  • This is the interface for recruiting squads. On the left-hand side and across the top of the interface you will find descriptions of the particular squad you are looking to buy. You can always swap your squads[sic] contracts for others, if you wish, by choosing the 'Manage' option on a recruiter. You'll be using your investment credit to buy squads. Talk to the recruiter again to recruit 10 of your own squads.
    • (Squad Recruitment closes)
  • You can now talk to the recruiter of your choice to buy 10 squads.
Before hiring 10 squads Edit
  • (Squad Recruitment opens)
After hiring 10 squads Edit
  • You care only allowed 10 squad contracts, so you don't need any more. You might want to check your bank or your follower's inventory.

Selecting squad contracts Edit

Attempting to buy a squad contract without selecting a quantity Edit
  • Please select a quantity first.
Buying squad contracts Edit
  • You successfully purchased the squad contracts.
Attempting to buy more than your investment credits allow Edit
  • You do not have enough investment credits to afford that. Speak to Junior Cadet Mal to manage your investments.

Returning to Junior Cadet Mal Edit

Before hiring 10 squads Edit
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Got 10 squads?
    • If you do not have sufficient investment credit
      • Player: Nope, and I think I'll need some more investment credit.
      • Junior Cadet Mal: Okay, I'll add some extra credit to your account. You need 10 squads in total from the recruiters.
    • If you have sufficient investment credit
      • Player: Nope, where do I get them from?
      • Junior Cadet Mal: Go to the squad recruiters in the north-east[sic] corner of this compound.
After hiring 10 squads Edit
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Got 10 squads?
  • Player: Yep!
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Okay, go get some special units. I'll add 2,000 investment credits to your A.R.M.S. account.

Special units recruitment Edit

At the special units table Edit

Using the special units table Edit
  • (Purchase Special Units (Max 5) opens)
Attempting to buy special units without selecting a quantity Edit
  • You've not selected any quantities of special units. You must select at least 1.
Purchasing special units Edit
  • You've purchased a special unit contract. It has been added to your inventory.
After purchasing special units Edit
  • (Purchase Special Units (Max 5) closes)
  • Now, it's best to head back to Mal with that special unit scroll.
Attempting to buy more than your investment credits allow Edit
  • You do not have enough investment credits to afford that. Speak to Junior Cadet Mal to manage your investments.

Returning to Junior Cadet Mal Edit

Before hiring special units Edit
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Got some special units?
    • Player: Nope, where do I get them from?
    • Junior Cadet Mal: Go to the tables under the tent in the north-east corner of this compound.
After hiring special units Edit
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Got some special units?
  • Player: Yep!
  • Junior Cadet Mal: Fantastic. Now, let's take a look at the scenario setup you'll see upon starting a game.
    • (Scenario selection opens)

Scenario selection Edit

  • Junior Cadet Mal: Okay, let's take a look at the scenario setup you'll go through when starting a game.
    • (Scenario selection opens)
  • Once you go down the briefing room stairs (south of Mal) you will be presented with this screen. From here, you can select which scenario you wish to play and see how many players are waiting to play each. Upon selecting a scenario, you'll be given information about it - including how to play and how to win. It's on here that you'll also be able to select your squad formation. On the next screen, you'll see the investment credit that you previously handed to Mal. If you wish, you can invest some credit in the scenario. The amount you invest has no effect on the battle itself, but the more you invest, the greater your possible rewards.
    • (Scenario selection closes)
  • Junior Cadet Mal: After the set up, you'll find yourself in a briefing room - just wait and the next game will begin if there are enough players. I can give you extra lessons on rewards and special activities you can perform in some scenarios: just talk to me further if you want to see them. Now you're all ready for battle - congratulations!
