[edit] Walkthrough

[edit] Starting Out

To begin the quest speak to one of the three guards (TzHaar-Mej-Malk, TzHaar-Xil-Tog or TzHaar-Hur-Frok) guarding a collapsed tunnel located immediately east of the TzHaar city entrance (down the stairs from the gold ore in Karamja volcano). They will explain that some tunnels have been knocked down, trapping a few TzHaar.

[edit] The TzHaar Tourist Guide

  • Talk to TzHaar-Ket-Grol south of where you are when the dialogue has ended. He will not allow you to go in unless you have the proper materials. He writes them down on a stone tablet. but it is in the TzHaar language!
  • Go to the TzHaar Library to get a translation book for the list of required items. The Library is located on the other side of the city between the furnace pit and summoning obelisk just east of the fairy ring, and is labelled simply "Cave Entrance."

The 'books' in the back of the library.

Talk to the Librarian, TzHaar-Mej-Lor who sadly (and amusingly) shows you that all the books have been burnt to ashes by the heat! It then tells you to go to Varrock for the original book.

  • Now head to the Varrock Castle. The library is in the back of the castle, the northernmost room on the ground floor. You can teleport, use the nearby Fairy ring (coordinates DKR) lies outside the nearby Grand Exchange.
  • Talk to Reldo and he will tell you to search the bookcases for the TzHaar Tourist Guide.
  • Search the second bookcase up (down being south) on the western wall, and you will find the book.

  • Get to TzHaar again. The fairy ring for TzHaar is BLP; alternatively you can use your Amulet of Glory to go to Karamja and walk.
  • Go to TzHaar-Ket-Grol. He will now ask what have you been able to translate and ask you some questions and the answers are: a pickaxe (you'll need a Rune pickaxe), oak planks (you'll need 13-15 oak planks) and blocks of stone (18-20 blocks of stone from TzHaar mine). (Also you will need a hammer and chisel but these are not asked for.)
  • Now go talk to TzHarr-Hur-Frok (across the hall from TzHarr-Ket-Groll)and have him treat your planks to make them flame resistant so you are allowed to enter the mine.
  • Go east and tell TzHaar-Ket-Rok that you are allowed in the mine.

[edit] The TzHaar Theatre

The TzHaar cast of the play!

  • Now enter the mine and speak with TzHaar-Hur-Brekt and keep talking until you get to change the plot of the play so that "the humans started it." At this point you have to help "write" a play.
  • Then talk to TzHaar-Hur-Klag and choose the option "TzHaar who gets assaulted in its home is TzHaar-Hur."
  • Then talk to TzHaar-Mej-Kol and choose the option "One is a TzHaar-Mej who is aware of the situation."
  • Talk to TzHaar-Xil-Mor and choose the only option.
  • Then return to TzHaar-Hur-Brekt and choose "we should decide an ending" then "the criminal's plans are foiled."
  • Retell the plot to the miners, then go to TzHaar-Xil-Mor and choose "The plans aren't always foiled."
  • Talk to TzHaar-Hur-Brekt and tell him that "They are all happy with the plot."

[edit] The TzHaar Plot

  • Though you are not required to do so, speak with TzHaar-Ket-Lurk to find out the personality traits of the elders.
  • TzHaar-Ket-Jok gets the role of JalYt Jenny. Ask if he is happy with the role and slightly modify the role. Say no to his request.
  • TzHaar-Xil-Mor gets the role of TokTz-Ket-Ek-Mack. His role needs no modification to make him pleased with his part.
  • TzHaar-Hur-Klag gets the role of TzHaar-Hur. Say yes to his request for modification of the role.
  • TzHaar-Mej-Kol gets the role of KetKul-Schmul. Then click modify after he gets upset.
  • Finally speak to TzHaar-Hur-Brekt, tell him that all the roles have been assigned, and he will tell you how to mine magma.

[edit] Obsidian Pillars

  • Simply click on one of the striped areas of wall to the East of TzHaar-Hur-Brekt with a pickaxe in your inventory to obtain a piece of stone slab. Two pieces of stone slab can be mined from each 'wall' before the ore runs out (40 mining xp each), and the respawn rate is quite fast. You are told to take 20 stone slabs into the tunnel, but it is a good idea to mine as much as you can carry in case you make any mistakes later on and need additional pieces. Go back to the TzHaar bank and with a hammer and chisel in your inventory use the chisel with the stone slabs (20 crafting xp each) to create stone pillars which you will need to repair the tunnel.
  • Now withdraw from the bank your armour (a good idea is to use mage robes for the mage attack bonus and minimal negative range attack) together with enough runes to cast enough spells to deal with several enemies (water based attacks are effective against the fire monsters) and a ranged weapon, with ammunition.. You can use prayer against the monsters in the tunnel, but take some food if you are cautious, your pick axe, 15 oak planks and fill the rest of your inventory with stone pillars.

[edit] Treating the Planks

[edit] Repairing the Tunnels

  • You will enter three connected tunnels, which have been damaged by TokTz-Ket-Dill. To get to the next level, all damaged areas in that particular dungeon need to be fixed. Some sections of the walls have collapsed (shown as red corridor sections on the minimap) and some sections of the ceiling have collapsed (shown as piles of rubble, as well as pale brown shapes on the minimap).
  • To repair both kinds, first examine them. On a wall, if it says the damage is very bad, use a stone pillar. If it says the damage is bad or not too bad, use oak planks. On a ground cave-in, use oak plank if it says the damage is not too bad, and a stone pillar otherwise. If you use the wrong kind of material the cave-in will collapse, causing 4 to 13 damage. After using a stone pillar with a cave-in, you will not be able to pass through again.
  • If you trap yourself behind a pillar, you will have to collapse the pillar, destroying it permanently (this is only the case with stone pillars as you can safely walk past the oak planks once in position).

The fire monster.
  • Now come fire monsters and lava monsters. These monsters stay behind a lava stream which cannot be crossed and are level 47. If a player attempts to cross the lava stream using the stepping stones before killing the monsters, he will be told that his character does not want to step across molten hot stepping stones with a monster ready waiting at the other side. The fire monsters must be fought using magic, and the lava monsters can only be killed using a ranged attack. Protect from Magic will, however, protect from both of the monsters' attacks.
  • In the second tunnel, you will encounter a fire monster.
  • In the third tunnel, you will encounter a fire monster and a couple of lava monsters. One of the lava monsters is hiding behind a rock. Prior to repairing the wall, you must kill it from a dead-end side tunnel. Navigate the tunnel to finish the monsters before repairing the damage, working your way back to the stepping stones.

Note:

  • If a player tries to mine a collapsed tunnel before he/she stabilised all the cave-ins, he/she will take 4 to 13 damage.
  • A player may quit both tunnels at any moment, by returning to the dungeon entrance door.
  • Ring of Recoil is useless against this creature, so don't bother.

[edit] Battling the TokTz-Ket-Dill

  • When you reach a cave with some TzHaar-Hurs, talk to them. They will tell you the TokTz-Ket-Dill has a small home in a tunnel north of there. Get some melee-resistant armour for the fight with level 100 TokTz-Ket-Dill, and enter the cave.

Note:

Once player has spoken to the TzHaar-Hurs he may clear the rubble from the cave exit to the south, allowing a quick access to the bank in case he needs to heal or collect more supplies.

Warning:

Make sure you do not apply prayer while breaking the TokTz-
Defeating Toktz-Ket-Dill with a Gadderhammer.

Ket-Dill's shell armour, as doing so will have it inflict repeating damages of 15's. You can, and should, use the Protect from Ranged prayer after breaking his shell.

  • The fight is unique, since the TokTz-Ket-Dill has very thick armour that can only be broken with a rune pickaxe. Players must keep hitting him with a rune pickaxe until his armour breaks (players will hit 0 while this is happening, but they will get a message saying his armour is breaking).
  • When TokTz-Ket-Dill's armour shell is broken, you can use any melee weapon with crush attack style, like warhammers, the Gadderhammer, Dragon Maces, or just simply the Rune pickaxe. The Barrelchest Anchor from The Great Brain Robbery is also effective, especially with its special attack - "Sunder" - that doubles the chance of hitting. If you use the wrong style or weapon you will not damage him. He uses ranged and melee attacks, and can hit over 20 with ranged. So, turn on Protect from Ranged. After killing the TokTz-Ket-Dill he will drop 1,000 Tokkul and Big bones.
  • The TokTz-Ket-Dill will rarely use ranged attacks.

[edit] Completing the Quest

Head out of the caves, and talk to any of the three TzHaar to finish the quest.

[edit] Rewards

TokTz-Ket-Dill reward

[edit] Music

During the quest the following music is unlocked:

  • Arma Gonna Get You
  • Dillo-gence is Key
  • TokTz-Ket-Ek-Mack (After the quest, if you ask to watch TzHaar-Hur-Brekt's play.)

[edit] Trivia

  • On the first day of release, when a player clicked to see spoilers it said "Sadly the rewards were written with chalk (in a circle, for some reason) and has been smudged by a large rodent, please check back tomorrow." This may be a reference to the play 'The Caucasian Chalk Circle'. It also sounds similar to the Free Home Teleport in the modern spellbook. A circle you draw with a chalk, and in which ending up in Lumbridge where you find giant rats.
  • The TzHaar playwright TzHaar-Hur-Brekt is a reference to the German poet and playwright Bertolt Brecht, writer of The Threepenny Opera (parodied as The Three Tokkul Opera if you talk to TzHaar-Hur-Brekt after the quest). The name of the villain, TokTz-Ket-Ek-Mack, roughly translates to "Mack the Knife", who is the villain from that same work.
Mass of a full load of stone slabs
  • Stone slabs are the same weight as Barrels of coal-tar, which are 32kg each. Filling your entire inventory up with either of these items increases your weight to 896kg (roughly 1975lbs) without having any armour or weapon wielded.
  • One of the 'ashes' on the TzHaar bookshelves in the JalYt section has the name 'Fight Caves for Dummies' on it. This is a reference to the 'Dummies' series of reference books.
  • The HAM storerooms are visible from the obsidian mine.
