The Third age melee set is made by exchanging a Third age helm, Third age platebody, Third age platelegs, and Third age kiteshield with the Grand Exchange clerk. The set's purpose is purely to save space and for use in the Grand Exchange. Players can exchange this set with a Grand Exchange clerk to receive the items listed above. To wear this armour, players need at to have least 65 Defence. This armour can not be bought in stores or be made through the Smithing skill.

The Third age melee set is currently one of the most powerful melee armour sets in runescape .In addition to being very powerful, the Third age melee set is one of the rarest and most expensive armours in runescape. At the Grand Exchange, the Third age melee set has a market price of about 342 million coins (as of November 19, 2009). While it is currently considered to be the best non-degradable armour in the game, Bandos armour offers better magic defence, prayer, and strength bonuses, and because it is far cheaper, is more widely used than Third Age armour. 3rd Age Armour is usually just worn to show wealth, not for battles or for their bonuses.
