The Third age mage hat is a member's only piece of armour that is part of the Third age mage set. To wear the mage hat the player needs at least 30 Defence and 65 Magic. To obtain a third age mage hat the player can either complete a Level 3 Treasure trail or trade with another player. It is currently the best non-degrading mage hat in the game, offering the same magic attack and defence bonuses as Zuriel's hood. It is rarely used due to its high price and is mainly used to show wealth.
The chance of receiving a 3rd age piece is 1 in 10,000 according to Paul Gower[source needed].
