The ritual happens every 500 years, when a "syzygy" occurs, which is when the planets align.. Many quests reference the Ritual as a ceremony in which one Mahjarrat is killed to replenish the energies of the rest, which seem to deplete to the point where missing two Rituals may be lethal (as seen by the condition of Jhallan). These quests include Tale of the Muspah, and this is hinted at in The Curse of Arrav. An explanation of how the ritual occurs is given in Postbag from the Hedge 41.
During different quests, players travel to various different parts of the area.
The main area, which consists of a mostly featureless area patrolled by Zemouregal's Undead broavs, can be accessed during and after the Ritual of the Mahjarrat quest. The ritual plateau is found in the centre of this area, and this is where the Ritual marker is found. This area can be accessed from Ghorrock fortress or Fairy ring code DKQ (via the Glacor cave). The entrance to the Glacor Cave and a Bloodwood tree can also be found to the south of the plateau.
During The Tale of the Muspah, players hide Jhallan in a small cavern inhabited Jellies, in a small area north of the main ritual site. This area can be accessed from a canoe in the Snowy hunter area, or, after the Temple at Senntisten, Ghorrock.
Zemouregal also has a fortress just to the west of the plataeu, and players go there during The Curse of Arrav and Ritual of the Mahjarrat quests. It can be accessed from Lamistard's Tunnels, or through the main door, accessible from the plateau.
Ghorrock, an ancient Zarosian fortress, located west from the Wilderness Agility Course, is also considered part of the area, with parts of the ritual battle sometimes occurring there. It can be accessed from the area from Tale of the Muspah, from the Frozen Waste Plateau in the Wilderness, or from the main plateau.
Lucien also has a small base full of Undead trolls, Undead mages and Elite Black Knights located to the south of the area, which plays a part in the While Guthix Sleeps quest. This can only be accessed via activating a Strange teleorb in the Black Knights' Catacombs
The Ritual of RejuvenationEdit
The Ritual plateau is the location of a ritual in which many of the Mahjarrat partake, to renew their energy and strengthen their power. Apparently throughout a Mahjarrat's life their energy begins to fade and so does their appearance when this time draws near.
Jhallan explains to an adventurer during The Tale of the Muspah that the life of one Mahjarrat must be sacrificed in order to complete the Ritual. A large battle between all Mahjarrat occurs and presumably the loser of that battle is the one who is sacrificed. Any Mahjarrat nearby during the Ritual will be rejuvenated even if they do not participate in the battle.
