Starting out[]
- Go to the exam centre.
- Ask an examiner about an exam.
- Talk to Varrock Dig Site Manager Seth Minas in in the main building at the Varrock Dig Site.
- Talk to an examiner, you will fail the exam.
Lost and found[]
- Search the bushes by the large blue urn between the Digsite and the Exam Centre until you find a teddy bear.
- Take the panning tray from the tent.
- Pan the water just south-east of the tent. Someone will try to stop you. Give him the cup of tea to pan the water. special cup. Pan until you find a
- Steal from the workman, until you get an animal skull and a specimen brush.
- Talk to the student (purple clothes, located a small ways north of the workman) in the north-west side of the Digsite.
- Talk to her again.
- Run east, talk to the student in an orange shirt.
- Talk to him again.
- Run south, talk to the student in a green shirt.
- Talk to him again.
Exams[]
- Return to an examiner.
- Answer #1: The study of the earth, its contents and history.
- Answer #2: All that have passed the appropriate Earth Sciences exam.
- Answer #3: Gloves and boots to be worn at all times; proper tools must be used.
- Talk to all 3 students again.
- Return to an examiner.
- Answer #1: Samples taken in rough form, kept only in sealed containers.
- Answer #2: Finds must be carefully handled, and gloves worn.
- Answer #3: Always handle with care; strike cleanly on its cleaving point.
- Talk to all 3 students - the woman will demand an opal (talk to her again). You can obtain this by panning.
- Return to an examiner.
- Answer #1: Samples cleaned, and carried only in specimen jars.
- Answer #2: Brush carefully and slowly using short strokes.
- Answer #3: Handle bones very carefully and keep them away from other samples.
Helping the expert[]
- Search the cupboards on the north and south wall of the west room in the exam centre.
- Talk to the archaeological expert.
- Return to the digsite and find a level 3 digsite (the sign will indicate the level).
- Use the trowel on the soil until you find an ancient talisman. If you don't find it after several attempts try the soil patch in the far north-east.
- Talk to the archaeological expert back at the exam centre.
- Use the invitation on a digsite workman.
- Use a rope on the winch furthest to the west, climb down.
- Search the bricks to the east.
- Climb back up, then climb down using the other winch north-east.
- Pick up an arcenia root.
- Talk to Doug Deeping.
Explosives expert[]
- In the northeast section of the east shaft, pick up the Book on chemicals.
- Use the key to unlock the chest and search it.
- Use the trowel on the closed barrel on the east wall.
- Use a vial on the barrel.
- If you don't have charcoal, search the tray a few steps north.
- Grind the charcoal.
- Mix the nitroglycerine liquid (from the barrel) and the ammonium nitrate powder (from the chest) together, add charcoal, then finally add the arcenia root.
- Use the compound on the brick.
- Search the brick, select your tinderbox.
- Enter the large chamber, take the stone tablets (There are skeletons that may attack you).
Finishing up[]
- Use the tablet on the archaeological expert.
- Quest complete!

He will hand you the Codex Ultimatus, which when read, unlocks 3 ancient threshold abilities - Blood Tendrils (75 Attack), Shadow Tendrils (75 Ranged) and Smoke Tendrils (75 Magic), and one ultimate ability – Ice Asylum (91 Constitution).
- Speak to Marfet or Torrcs on the first floor of Varrock Museum, who tell you how to re-obtain Teddy. You need to pickpocket the female student, north-west of the Digsite.
