i thought i had to use protect ranged at first,but the instant i went up to melee him, i was hit with ice barrage/blitz, and then i used protect melee i died cause i was sent flying. then finally i used protect mage and i wasnt sent flying and my defense could take the damage from the rcks. i had my friend do the quest, i realized that it doesnt matter what type of prayer (mage or ranged) you use, rather never ever use melee, because he will chuck you across the room.

if you have higher defence against ranged, then protect magic, if you have higher defensive protection from mage then use protect from ranged. never use protect from melee Whitemage900 02:36, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Error?

I think there's an error here because you need to turn on Protect from Missiles in the boss fight and not Protect from Magic. Today I died twice because I didn't know which prayer to use, and only ate 4 monkfish when I used the correct prayer. Luckytoilet 04:53, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

what ore where you assigned. i was assigned 6 mithril ore.

Chrislee: That's wrong. I started the quest and got up to the point where ore is requested with level 29 mining. I was asked for coal though, and had to mine tin in the mine to get a high enough level >.< I don't recall how many i was asked for, but it was still coal. If anyone could do another test to make sure my experience wasn't just a fluke, it would be most appreciated. Swordfishguy 16:32, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Yak hide armour and fremmy shield

Wearing this does indeed make the troll king easier to defeat. He didn't hit me much when I wore it, used dragon long, and used protect from magic. With food I was fine. That is the secret to defeating him with melee. Dtm142 01:11, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

the shield reduces hits from the rangers to 1 or 2. they still hit almost everytime, but it is much more manageable. Csours 23:30, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Using dragon halberd to defeat Troll King

With a combat level of 79 (65 atk, 62 str, 65 def, 62 HP, 51 prayer), I only ate 5 swordfish while defeating the Troll King using d hally + yak hide armor + rune full helm and boots + addy gloves + strength potion + attack potion + protect from magic prayer. It was so fast that I didn't even need to drink my prayer potions. I was just standing 1 square away from him, hitting him with the d hally (by the way, the special attack will not hit him twice) and he was just hitting me with range... simple and easy Patheticcockroach(Talk) 17:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

I heard that this quest was annoying to a lot of players, is that true? The helm of noitsnot sounds good as a reward, but i heard players saying that the quest is VERY annoying, kinda like one small favor.....--Pkthis 00:34, 2 February 2008 (UTC)


[edit] Ring of recoil?

I heard that with three rings of recoil, the yak armor, and the fremennik shield with an inventory full of lobby's one can just stand there and let the recoil do the work for you. Is this true?

Yes, btu u need 4-5 rings and you have to hit at least 1 damage on him with magic or fists (go with magic- he cant melee you then, and you only need to do 1 damage. Use a fire attack.)

I'm pretty sure the agility level is wrong here as I did not use boosting gear and just finished this quest with 37 agility.Mjc3 01:52, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

How do you complete this quest with less than 40 agility? Perhaps someone add a guide on how to do so.
