Gems gathered

Just thought I'd post up what gems I got from my first scrimshaw. I mined bane ore, which I think is the highest ore that gives gems short of runite. I'll try adamant on my next scrimshaw to see the differences. I was wearing a Ring of Wealth, Amulet of Glory, and Varrock Armour 4 using infernal Adze

where to use scrim?

Adamant definitely does not seem like the place to use it given the space between ores :/

Best location for addy appears to be the adamantite veins in the Abandoned Mine. (Haunted mine quest required). 5 ores, and then you can superheat with coal whilst they respawn.

Another good location is Leyta in the Elven Lands. Also got the Adamantite rocks in the dwarvian mines. (again quests required to access these.

Based level 90 and 91 mining (and wearing Varrock 4 armour using dragon pick and laval titan), I've got 0,1, 2 onyxs/scrim on Bane ore, 0 Onyx powermining iron, and 1 Onyx/scrim on adamantite veins, based on 5 completed scrimshaws. This values them at vastly below the current GE value. I'd suggest a value of about 1.5mill gps for them based on the value of an Onyx at about 3mill, which allows for the hassle of using it in the first place.

Where would be best? so far i have done sand stone for 10 mins and a diamond. Conc gold seems possible, bane ore seemed somewhat successful in another test.

How it works?

I used up my Superior gem-finding scrimshaw. I came to the conclusion that the gems awarded through the scrimshaw ONLY are awarded when the ore is actually mined. Regular gems can appear while just mining the rock, but the scrimshaw doesn't seem to do that. ANy1 can back this up? ^Amo_Vos 13:16, March 19, 2013 (UTC)

Yep i am almost 99% sure that the gems from the scrimshaw are awarded when getting the ore rather than during the mining. I have watched the gems i got closely, all gems that i got when mining the actual ore were diamonds/dragonstones/Onyx. During mining i only got the lower variants.

Gems are only awarded on successful, ore gaining swings and yes the scrimshaws only offer diamond through onyx. sapph, em, ruby and dia gems while unsuccessfully mining the ore are not impacted. Samberen 22:53, April 23, 2013 (UTC)

Table rework

I'm going to remove the tables on the gem-finding scrimshaw pages because the scrimshaws have no impact on sapph, em or ruby and without taking the time to determine whether a diamond is from the scrimshaw or just mining, the diamond data is inaccurate. Samberen 22:55, April 23, 2013 (UTC)

Red sandstone

does it work at red sandstone? I'm at over 800 with just 1 diamond, no dstone/onxy Illagong (talk) 08:46, June 24, 2013 (UTC)

Seems broken on Red Sandstone. In roughly 1000 Red Sandstone with Active Superior Gemfinding + RoW + Glory, I have gotten signifcantly LESS gems than I normally get without any specific gear. In fact, with Superior Gemfinding, I have occasionally had the RoW glow with no gem being added to my inventory. 176.198.254.249 06:00, October 21, 2013 (UTC)

Harmonised rune rocks

Used 1 sup gem-finding scrim at harmonised rune rocks in elf city (lv95 mining). I did not count howmany rune ore / bars I got. I may add more as I go along.
