OK, got a question. If I'm trying 2 superheat iron and coal into steel bars and I click on the coal, it says, "Please click on an ore" (or something). But I'm worried that if I click on the iron, won't it make iron bars instead? I don't want to test because I've brought exactly enough nats to get to smithing mithril...no spares :( . Please reply!!! ----

if you have coal in your inventory and you click on an iron ore to superheat you will get steel...--AbyssDarkstar 17:09, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

- Coal is used to heat the blast furnace, and form carbon and carbon monoxide which reduce the iron from its ores. For steel production, most of this carbon has to be removed, because it makes it brittle. Paronomasia 17:32, August 3, 2010 (UTC)

wow, smithing with superheat looks profitable with addy bars a.t.m. ... 23k gp per hour, 61k magic exp and 41k smith exp per hour doesn't seem too bad

Using the furnace and superheating broken?[]
I've tried superheating and using the furnace before, and the spell didn't interrupt the process. However, I tried doing it recently and I can't seem to get it to work anymore. Anyone have an idea why? I tried looking at the patch notes on the rs forums, and the only thing I could find was a patch where the spell now interrupts the home teleport. Could it be that it messed up superheating/furnace as well?

Infobox XP calculator[]
The infobox says 70 XP, however if I'm not mistaken it should be 53 (Magic) XP. Right? Or am I missing something here?
The total XP will be higher because you also get Smithing XP, but I don't think that should be included in the infobox because the Smithing XP is not constant but varies based on what metal is being smelted.

Coal bag[]
The page should be updated to reflect the changes made to the coal bag, it is now able to hold 81 pieces of coal rather than 27.
