[edit] Suggestion
Why not make it redirect to a page that says something like "The RuneScape Slang Dictionary with no offensive language" and the other one "The RuneScape Slang Dictionary with language that [may be] offensive to some users"? And also have the same for the internet one. Kid2255 Talk
[edit] Linking
Most of the definitions of these words could do with inner-wiki linking. Examples off the top of my head: KBD should have a link to King Black Dragon, K should link to Stackable items#Truncation convention, etc. Endasil (Talk) @ 03:38, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Don't get rid of it
This list is good, I found some phrases used in RuneScape I didn't actually know what they meant until I came across this artical. I admit, there are some words in there which shouldn't be used, so instead of getting rid of it, just filter some of the words, or change them, or both! Also, the page needs a GOOD cleanup, because the page is a bit of a mess. Maybe make an article for a different letter of the alphabet? "Slang dictionary" could be edited to link to each of these articles. "Slang dictionary (A)" for example. --The1AndOnlyMike 05:05, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 2 lists?
Since this list of words is getting so big, mabye we could split it into 2 sections, one for RuneScape related jargon (drag, scmmy, ect.) and one for just plain leetspeak (lol, wtf, ect.) Anyone have any thoughts? Tes Fan

[edit] Censor it?
I think it should be censored, because the 1st time I saw the page, I was shocked to see swear words written on it. And besides, RuneScape Wikians aren't allowed to type these words, and the possibility of the site being banned by school internet filters. Altarius95The Master Cook!Talk to me
I don't think so, because this is a informational page. These are really things that people mean when they type these words.
And, there IS that big "Warning: There is language on this page that some readers may consider offensive." banner at the top of the page. Tes Fan

I don't believe a censor should be needed in this article because of the big warning on the top of the article. They are being told that there will be language that they might find inappropriate. It is their own choice whether or not to read the article. If you wanted to read this article but are offended by the curse words, just try to ignore them or not look at them--S terror1 01:45, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gay
When a player says that he is straight, which is uncensored, will he be banned? Unless he is soliciting (god forbid how), that player doesn't deserve blackmarks, so a person saying he himself is homosexual is completely acceptable as well. If it's dodging the censor, well, that is not automatically breaking a rule. To support this, some words and names, like a certain administrator's in-game handle, are caught by it. earth(t)
- I agree with your intention (i.e. that players should be able to classify themselves as gay or straight), but "homosexual" is a banned word. The rules specifically state: "mis-spelling an offensive word or using symbols to replace letters to avoid the chat filter is considered even worse." Since "homosexual" is censored by the chat filter, it seems reasonable to think that Jagex considers it to be offensive, so misspelling it to get around the filter is breaking the rules.
- The only argument against this stance would be if Jagex does not consider the word to be offensive in all contexts. It seems unlikely that they would be so lax, given their track record (I was punished for saying "I'm Barry Scott"). They most likely consider all "sexuality" related words to be suspect, given that there is no sexual aspect to the game (so there could be little genuine reason to use the words in chat). They could not reasonably ban the word "straight", as it has other meanings. They have banned "heterosexual", presumably for the same reason as "homosexual".
- Arguably, they could not reasonably unban these because they would be widely abused, e.g. in offensive contexts and for solicitation. Leevclarke, AKA Max Bulldog
02:01, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
You could argue that the word "gay" should not be censored, as it can be used as an alternative word for "happy".
Dogtag333 13:54, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but it is almost never used in that context. It's for the same reason that "ass" is blocked, even though it could mean a donkey. If you mean happy then you can just say happy, since that is a synonym with no ambiguity. Leevclarke, AKA Max Bulldog

"Gay" is just how some people choose to be, and that's thair choice so there is no reason to sensor it. Nman649 talk-Actually being gay isn't a choice, it's something you're born with. It's like saying "people choose to be straight".
[edit] Reporting column
Jagex does not have a list of words anywhere that automatically count as an offence. The standard they use is whether or not the language was used in a context that was offending someone, not whether it could potentially be offensive. As such, I don't think there's a way to have a column that accurately reflects whether or not a word or phrase should be reported. I would just go ahead and remove it outright, but there will probably be people who disagree with me and there's no point in doing so if it'll be reverted. Any thoughts? Skill 20:51, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
The report thing is pointless, RuneScape is to faggy already. You can't even say "crap". "Crap" is not a bad word! PLUS why would you have to be 13 to play if it sensors everything? Think about... Nman649 talk

[edit] This Whole Article
In opinion, this whole article should be shut down. It teaches players how to avoid this chat filter, and avoiding this filter in itself is a breech of Jagex many rules. So what, this wiki is not a part of Jagex, but still, why are we teaching it's users how to break the rules. I'm requesting a VfD.

[edit] Splitting into two parts?
To make things simple, splitting the whole dictionary into two sections just makes things harder to find. If it's used in RuneScape, it's RuneScape-related. If it's not used in RuneScape (or "RuneScape Unrelated") it shouldn't even be here. I mean, [as far as I know] "narb" is only even vaguely used in RuneScape. Nowhere else. How could it not be related to RuneScape?
Chiafriend12
03:02, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- The split could be simply just like the Juna article has the dialogue split into a subpage at Juna/dialogue. As far as maintaining, well since the sub-page would be full of content likely to be vandalised i would highly recommend semi-protecting that page. The only link to that page should be, in my opinion, a link on the main article with warnings. Having the all of the content of questionable standards contained on the one page, will allow filtering programs to filter just the one page as opposed to the entire site. As far as acronyms and related that have more than one meaning then those entries could be denoted as having alternate meanings on the sub-page (or possibly vice versa). Of course any good suggestions are more than welcome. ~kytti khat 03:00, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

- I agree, things like STFU and GTFO ARE NOT REPORTABLE, as said by Jagex in the rules. As proof, click 'Report Abuse' ingame, type in something random like asdf, click next, and click the question mark above respect. The 3rd line clearly states:
| “ | You dont need to report players for using abbreviations such as 'lmao', 'wtf', 'gtfo'. | ” |

- It's not possible for a person to find random letters offensive. And really, it's not possible for a person to find random letters offensive. Could someone find KSD or WEZGDS offensive? No. Because they're simply letters. They don't mean anything. They might mean something in the typer's head, probably to express an emotion (being mad at someone = stfu = shut the fuck up), but that's only in THEIR head! That's not the situation in reality! In reality, STFU means ess tee eff yoo, or stfu. The same thing goes for *'s. I hate when peopl say "language!" for *'s, 1) because stars are stars. They don't mean anything. 2)As quoted by Jagex in the 4th line of Playing rs>Report Abuse>*insert name*> question mark above Respect:
| “ | You shouldn't report any chat that has been starred out (like this: ****), as the censor has prevented anything that may have been offensive from being seen. | ” |

- I am not saying that it should be reportable. The thing that makes it reportable is not the words, it is the context. I can see a player taking offence to it because it is not random letters, it is an anronym with a meaning. Those letters are used in place of the actual phrase and in conversation has the same meaning, just not the same words.

[edit] RuneScape Slang only
I think this article should cover RuneScape slang only. Listing internet slang in general, even partially, is far too large of a scope to cover in this page. We could start off with a notice that only RuneScape slang is covered in this article, and provide a link to a professional-ish internet slang dictionary, for example this website seems promising. Its not censored, and the results are all what one would expect, for example "shut the f*** up" is the top result for "stfu". Users would be warned of the language content in the link to the website. Whether its just "For a list of internet slang in general, see this website, but be warned because this website is uncensored and internet slang often contains offensive language." or something more elaborate like "For a list of Internet slang in general, see this website, and when clicked it takes them to Slang dictionary/Disclaimer which says "This website is outside the RuneScape Wiki's network and is uncensored. blah blah blah Click here to continue to the website." Basically I'm not happy with the current system where non-RuneScape slang is being added, whether its popular or only used by one person and his sycophantic friends (which I'm quite convinced has happened at one point or another). Why have people been muted for saying this? How is it even reportable.

[edit] Delete?
The slang dictionary (uncensored) by some is seen as a way to bypass the censor. we could get in trouble with Jagex if players start using it in this way....
I heard someone say this in the clan chat while discussing it one day. It is one of the most true statements I've heard. I think that at least the uncensored version should be deleted.-- Yödapen6 Contributions
