Talk:Server

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

Would it be appropriate to add the state/ province or area (etc) that a city is in? I will only do the USA ones for an example.

  • Atlanta, Georgia, USA
  • Chicago, Illinois, USA
  • Dallas, Texas, USA
  • Detroit, Michigan, USA
  • Miami, Florida, USA
  • New York City, New York, USA
  • San Diego, California, USA
  • San Francisco, California, USA
  • San Jose, California, USA
  • Seattle, Washington, USA

Just wondering. Ilyas 99damageig4.jpgTalk Contribs21:30, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Sydney is in New South Wales and London is in England. So I heard you like MudKips... 15:05, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Total number of worlds

"There are currently 144 worlds"

But since some worlds like 49, 122, 123, etc aren't there anymore, should that be less than 144? So I heard you like MudKips... 15:06, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redirects

Err...wow Chia...but shouldn't a world have its own page if it has any unique features...? Like the missing worlds, and world 66 which has law running and world 16 which has air running. World 132 has the player-made Fletching guild in Yanille, and worlds 100 and 124 are really big on Pest Control. Not to mention worlds 1-5, especially worlds 1 and 2 - the god of all trading worlds. If a world has its own feature like that, just say something like:

World 2 is a server which is famous for the massive amount of trading which occurs there in eastern Falador. The World 2 Falador trading area is massive, covering the Falador east bank and the entirety of Falador park, with many commodities and popular armour and weapons each having unofficially designated spots to be traded! Because of the trading, World 2 is full 99% of the time, and is extremely difficult to get into.

What's wrong with something like that? A map of the World 2 trade area in Fally with the spots all labelled would be really cool, but I don't know how to make them, or know the spots well enough. blackpartyhatnh7.png  GANGSTERLS pwnt  talk07:04, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I got 1,000 mainspace. Yay. All worlds are the same, so none of them have "unique features". If you find that a world (like 16 and 66) needs to be aknowleged as a "unique" world, then you can just redirect it to Air Running, or World 2 to Falador (bad idea), or something like Bank or Bank sale, or something economic related.
I plan to have every world (except for 122 and 123) redirected. It's a POW for myself. 22px?Chiafriend12Better than rune! 07:27, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I voted for yes. The US does have a lot of servers. I think there should be more servers in Britain. 22px?Chiafriend12Better than rune! 00:20, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Blanko,

[edit] Update:22 New RuneScape Worlds

Please revise this article based on this update: Update:22 New RuneScape Worlds. Thanks in advance.   az talk   02:24, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Nevermind.   az talk   02:52, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] German Language servers

I thought that these servers were located in Helsinki and not in Germany. --156.34.70.108 04:23, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Locations

I have re-written the locations section to include the amount of F2P and P2P worlds for each location, and I've added a little flag for each country ;-). CFLM Talk # Sign 12:32, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of Player Worlds

This section is not needed because it has not been updated in 5 months, and most of its content is outlined in the Themed worlds section. Hardly any of the information contained within this part can be verified (for example the language specific worlds). What do you think? CFLM Talk # Sign 06:12, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

You said "Most of its content". I think you should merge the information into the article, ignoring the information that is already available in the Themed worlds section, and obsolete entries such as "Trading" and "Wilderness PvP". Personally, I do not like to see any information "disappear" just like that. For example, World 60 is an unofficial world for Penguin Hide and Seek, but it's not mentioned. It needs to be updated, and cleaned-up. Not removed.   az talk   07:48, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm, I like it! I'll start drafting. =) CFLM Talk # Sign 14:04, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

OK, new proposal - remove the entire Player World section, replacing it with a paragraph in Themed worlds describing them...

===Player worlds===
Certain worlds have become specialised by the player-base for particular activities, most commonly for socialisation with similar players which share common attributes like language, or to participate in events which require many people, such as parties and games.

Expand it if you want to. What do you think? CFLM Talk # Sign 14:30, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

You're omitting the world "numbers" altogether? I prefer if we retained that info..   az talk   14:43, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, even newer proposal, remove information crossed out HERE, replacing it with one paragraph in the Themed world section saying this...
===Player worlds===
Certain worlds have become specialised by the player-base for particular activities, usually for socialisation with similar players which share common attributes like language, or to participate in events which require many people, such as parties and games. These worlds are...

Much better, I think. I'll add-in a couple of worlds after you've done the changes to the article.   az talk   09:07, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Sure, add whatever you like. CFLM Talk # Sign 12:21, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] France?

Notice there are french servers but they don't appear in green on the map? Luckytoilet 05:00, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Persistence of character state

this section of the article may need redefining. The description of what happens when switching from members to free servers can be read in the wrong way.

[edit] Almost recent events

Some of the oldest "recent" events date back to April 2008. Since it's two weeks and it's April 2009, wouldn't this need updating? And I think there have been more recent events too, just not written in there. Quest.pngXfinXTalkReply 13:43, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Server in India

I just found out that now there's server in India. If you don't believe me, check RuneScapes worldlist!

--Penko 17:20, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for letting us know, Penko, I'll update the article accordingly. For anyone else - they're worlds 170 (P2P) and 171 (F2P). cflm (talk) 17:24, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Worlds 121-129

Does anyone know what happened to worlds 121-129? World 127 was my home world and the only Maryland world. SamRosenfeld 12:03, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
