Potential Uses Exploration[]

Not gonna lie but the uses for the staff seem pretty limited at the moment but oh well let's see what kind of uses we can come up with for this. Fizzyliquid 08:20, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Was kind of mad when I bought it, but the ability to use it for nay spell broadens the horizon some. I was thinking of 1 invy spot alchs, and something akin to a veng stick, which will save invy spaces for pk'ers or people at clan wars. Ill look at each spell castable tomorrow to find more use for it. Mathis0620 08:25, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Edit: I need a better picture but I can't take it with orb of oculus alone, as it takes the invy slot. Also I don't know a better angle? It keeps telling me I have a bad one in the picture. I would be glad to pose for someone to take it though.Mathis0620 08:27, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately this staff will be unable to cash Vengeance because of the limited spells it is able to cast. The Greater Runic Staff could do anything though. Fizzyliquid 08:59, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I remembered that falling asleep last night... Better get started on that 90 rc... Mathis0620 15:42, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Facts[]

I've obtained this staff today and ran multiple tests on its capabilities, which I will list here:

Charging -On the inventory or equip screen, right click->Select spell brings you to the spell menu which you can select any non-teleportation spell to use for the staff (for this particular staff it's up to level 75 spells. All spells that you are unable to cast are simply not listed)

-CANNOT use for teleportation

[I think this is wrong, when I bought it last night I tested non-combat skills with an Edgeville Dungeon teleport. Ill check again to confirm.] Mathis0620 15:12, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Reconfirmed, I used this staff for a teleport without any other runes in my inventory. Mathis0620 15:17, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Uncharging -Right click->uncharge. What this does is remove ALL runes from the staf, which means that if you charged 500 blood bursts into your staff, it would remove 2000 chaos runes, 1000 blood runes, and 1000 death runes (the runic cost of 500 blood bursts), the same holds true with whatever spell you bind.

-Uncharging puts the runes directly into your inventory

Use -Does NOT work like a polypore staff -In order to use the spell you charge your runic staff with, you MUST be on the same spellbook as the charged spell's.

-You CANNOT use a charged lunars spell on the ancients/standards book, nor a charged ancients spell on the lunars/standard book, etc.

-Even if you have the necessary runes in your staff to cast other spells in your spellbook, you cannot cast them unless you take the runes out of your staff first. What this means is that even if you charge your staff with bloods, chaos, and deaths, you CANNOT use blood blitz if you bound blood burst, or vice-versa. The spell you select is the only spell you may use without uncharging your staff.

Absorption -Does NOT absorb ancient magicks. (tested in PVP scenarios such as the combat ring in a player owned house and the wilderness. Neither of which absorbed incoming blood bursts when the spell was selected or deselected. It simply did not absorb it)

Death Value and Other Death Facts

http://i.imgur.com/uWccP.png

-CANNOT be dropped. Only destroyed.

-IS KEPT AS A DEFAULT for normal death circumstances (non wilderness), which means that if you die without a skull, you will keep this staff and two of your most valuable items as a DEFAULT (this can be changed in the death screen)

-Is worth on the "kept items on death" interface as around 10k gp, give or take ~200 gp

-is worth 8.1k gp upon death if skulled in the wilderness

-any runes that you bound into the staff are LOST upon destruction of the staff. If you die with a skull and lose the staff, ALL RUNES ARE LOST. Neither other players nor you can recover the runes. This means that if you spent 1m gp binding blood bursts into your staff and lost it in the wildy, that's 1m lost forever + the staff itself.

Conclusion

The staff is nothing more than a glorified inventory saver. If you have the runes to cast the spell, don't bother putting it in a staff, unless you have some sort of irrational need to save as much inventory space as possible.

-On hindsight, I would have kept the staff longer to test out more facts about the staff such as absorption for standard spells and indirect combat spells such as vengeance. However, time was running short and the staff sucked balls. I wanted to get rid of it. For science.

Amen bro, you yielded a great deal of data for the RS Wiki. Thanks man. Fizzyliquid 09:53, May 2, 2012 (UTC)

Cannot autocast like polypore staff?[]

What does it mean it can't autocast like a polypore staff? It autocast perfectly fine with fire wave, etc.

I assume it means that just wielding the staff won't cast the charged spell when in combat, unlike the Polypore; you have to select the spell in your spellbook. 98.249.218.100 09:06, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
