New layout

Search priority

Guys we are know longer no 1 search result when "runescape wiki" is google searched, what happened? Did someone change the meta? Bob2006ty^{_{(RUNESTORM333)}  talk}

calcs

Would it be possible for the wiki to include calculators for skill training and combat such as other websites do? someone would have to write them of course, I wouldnt know where to start there, what language or anything like that, but I know one of the major criticisms of this site is it does not have calculators, my freinds are drawn to other sites because of this, although they do say we have really fast quest guide releases they all use this site for quests, a few have signed up to contribute.

I'm not sure, my thoughts are simmiler to the ones in this discussion, in that

Searching WIKI's

It's not clear to me how to search this marvelous wiki. This must have been talked about before but I find it hard to understand a wiki as being a wiki without a search facility. Could someone please add a search box to every page, says he glibly? Regards, ptolomeus. I'll go and register now and will be happy to concentrate on crossing t's and dotting i's.

I dislike the current Main Page design mainly for these reasons:

1. Too many lines are used in the boxes (----). I don't get why certain sections require these lines. In my opinion, they make the text look very ugly.
2. News. I believe that game news and wiki news should be in one box. Game updates can be linked to their own articles (I don't really care about the little blurb Jagex puts out for each new update meaning it can be left out or included in the update page), with wiki news or whatever remaining the same though in the same template. In other words, all news should be in {{News}}.
3. The poll is hideous. I just hate the dotted lines; it just does not look nice. However, this cannot be fixed due to <poll> not being editable.
4. The Wikia gaming banner I'd prefer to see underneath all boxes on the very bottom of the page. It looks nicer stretched across the page.
5. I don't like how featured articles are up for a week. I'd like to see it change every week or two (after all, there are over 44,138 articles).
6. The "top content" box isn't that great. What I find works good is linking to categories that are neatly spread across the entire page or at the bottom of the page.

Languages

Um.. is there any point to having all these other languages when RuneScape can only be played in English and German?

I've seen people speaking Spanish, Dutch, and French in-game. Grand Exchange Market Watch

I think we should include the Grand Exchange Market Watch on the main page under popular articles. I know it is only getting started but I know that there will be more items being watched as more people become aware of it. I would like to second this request for adding at least some sort of reference to the Market Watch pages. At the moment, they are not well linked with the rest of the wiki content, and I do think that can be improved. Although there is still some content being added and set up, with a general lack of spamming, it would be nice if this main page at least mentioned it somewhere in relation to the rest of the content in this project. --Robert Horning 01:49, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Runescape wiki logo?

I wouldn't say it's terrible, but I guess we could redesign it. But let's not just copy the forum logo, let's just make a better one. We used to have a good one, you know, all the runes surrounding the RuneScape Wiki title, but then it got changed for some reason.

Dark RS Wiki

I don't see why we don't have a link to the Dark RuneScape Wiki anymore. It's still a sister wiki, and just because half of the users went there to learn how to scam doesn't mean that's what the wiki's intensions are.

There was a community vote on this at RuneScape:Votes for deletion/Dark Runescape Wiki, it was 9-1-1 (support, oppose, neutral) if I recall in favor of removing the links. Skill 22:36, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

It should be void. Having a VfD on deleting the wiki is an invalid request, since it is not up to us. A VfD is also not a thing to request to have another wiki be unassociated with. If you people who voted "support" would actually read the disclaimers on Dark RuneScape Wiki, you would know that the intent is to protect people, not teach people how to scam. The "other gaming wikis" link is still kept there because it is another gaming wiki. However, it was decided to no longer have it as a sister wiki. And Chia, the vote shouldn't just be void because it took place at RS:VFD. There just simply wasn't really anywhere else to put it (Which is the wiki's falut, not the nominator). In the future, such discussions could go at RuneScape:Yew grove (although I'll admit it's not very well used :P). Invalidating a discussion on the basis it was on an incorrect page boils down to RS:NOT#BUREAUCRACY. Grand Exchange Common Trade Index shown on Main Page

I think that the GECTI should be shown on the Main Page so that it saves time rather than having to go to the actual page and would be very helpful. I think it would also give the Main Page a more professional look. Maincomplete

The main page uses the MAINCOMPLETE template, that uses the MAINRAND template, that template uses the RANDOM SKILL template.

As the main page only ever displays four random skill images I'm not sure how beneficial the inclusion of clickpics would be. They are a great idea, but I don't know that they should be used everywhere there is an image. That being said, I'm not sure there is really any benefit for the skill icons on the main page to link to their respective image pages either. I'll leave it up to your judgement. I've fixed it now; this happens because a user enters a value not recognized on the Exchange pages, e.g. changing 3,000 to 3k, which results in the CTI template looking messed up. For example, a user did this, which resulted in the error. It's good to watch changes to the Exchange namespace to correct things like that as soon as possible.--Richard 16:55, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

RuneScape Wiki title

How did you make it so there isn't a title at the top of the page now? Before the Main Page was moved to RuneScape Wiki, it said, Main Page on the top like any other article.

The tab at the top doesn't say "article" either. How did it change?

The header disappears by some code in MediaWiki:Common.js. The "article" tab was changed to "page" due to an upgrade or something, though I've changed it back to article.--Richard 02:30, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

The script looks like it was translated quickly, and some stuff was missed. Anyway, the date as in the image doesn't seem to fit in. If you can find a way to make it less.. out of place.. then sure, go for it. Ben Ryfos^Talk 23:04, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
