[edit] Random events in your house
Hi
Can you get random events in your POH? I think it is imposable that I didn't get one while making tablets! Ben 15:53, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, it's possible to get Random Events in Player Owned Houses. Boomer12342 19:55, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Breaking up article
Why not break up this article into separate articles on each random event, like Strange plant, keeping this page for just general information? -- Ricky81682 06:14, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Good idea. It'd get large with images and info, so I'd have to agree with you.--Richard 16:35, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Done. -- Ricky81682 18:44, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Why not have a few of the more well known random events in here summarized, and link to the rest? I think they've done that with larger articles on Wikipedia. Oddlyoko 18:45, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Done. -- Ricky81682 18:44, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] What the?
Every time I click on the "Walkaway Mining Rock" link I get re-directed to the Random Events page. What's up with that?--RPG Master 20:49, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's a redirect page..what more do you need to know? It's not got enough information to be its own article. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 20:59, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Rock Golem
It says in the artical that the rock golem's range attack can be blocked with protect from range. Well, I had a rock golem and ranged it. I put up range protect. The rock golem still hits me (with ranging) even though I protected. Can anyone confirm this?--71.136.245.141 20:37, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm fairly sure I've been hit by the Rock Golem's ranged attack through my Protect from Range, but it's been a long time since I went mining, so can't be positive Khalron 20:54, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- I was attacked by a rock golem's ranged attack and put on protect from range. The attack was nullified. --220.237.32.246
[edit] mysteriouse old man
u should have a map of the maze that some times happens...
Monstermax23
- Well, there's no real problem to having such an image, but it won't achieve anything - the game tells you which way to go. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 21:16, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
That, and it changes every time. Yeah it might be the same sometimes.. But also, what would be the point? Instead of finding you way round, which takes a few seconds, you'd have to keep changing tab/window, taking more time.
[edit] Probability
I have heard that the probability of getting a random event is higher if one does not talk, move, rotate the camera, or pick up drops. Can this be verified? --63.3.15.129 22:50, 17 December 2007 (UTC) The following events
- Walking
- Obtaining items
- Modifying an item
- Opening up the bank
are much more prone to be accompanied by random events than if you do nothing.

Yes, it's true. NOT moving, speaking, changing CA or otherwise engaging in the controls WILL net you more random events per hour on average. It's a part of the Jagex anti-bot enforcement coding. Because some jackass (yes, I know your name, not that I'll speak, WTH!) temp locked the randoms section... you cannot see the editing that I made regarding this phenomenon. As for their asinine suggestion that I look at the neutrality policy... guess what sport, this entire Runescape article is loaded with opinions!! It's also loaded with a ton of information that's hardly viewpoint neutral and it's full of errors too! Example? The cooking gauntlets... which I also attempted to edit until it was locked. The TRUTH (not that anyone seems to care) is that the data is totally wrong. They effect MORE than lobs, swords and sharks. Pull your heads out of your asses before you attempt to play God and foul it up. Do NOT stiffle the truth. All you're doing is perpetuating stupidity and ignorance. ROFL... the Rouge's Den is the most "efficient" place to level cooking?? Bwa-hahahahahaha! What a moronic notion. If you want to play by your own rules, you'd better edit that out of the article because that statement is the blatantly and obviously BIASED OPINION of the writer. Duh!!!! A fair and ACCURATE thing to say would be that it's a POPULAR place to level cooking which is what I edited it to say. Hypocrisy knows no bounds. Enough said.
- I noticed that when using teleports from the normal spellbook, there's like a 25% chance of a random event. Also, burying a stray bone will get random events very easily. This means that you're training, doing your own business, then decide to kill the nearby goblin and burying its bone, or having a bone in your inventory and buring it after 5 minutes. I know that when I was training prayer I buried 2000 bones and didn't a single random event, last week when I was woodcutting the person beside me died and I buried the bone and got the surprise exam random event.
[edit] Massive Cleanup
I have added a gallery and made a pass at all the grammar, spelling, and factual errors. Let me know if the changes are necessary so we can remove the cleanup tag.

I noticed some text that is hard to understand, like the big fish random. Although I cant edit it because its protected..

[edit] Recent changes
I was simply removing opinionated content and removing the entire section that encouraged breaking the rules by circumventing the anti-cheating program (randoms). After I posted on the user's talk page to look over the RS:NPOV section, it seemed all was well.

21:28, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
I NEVER encouraged breaking ANY rules... in fact, I stated clearly that there is NO Jagex rule regarding avoiding random events through normal gameplay. If you ignore them, you suffer the results which is usually a teleport or getting attacked. Simply running from or teleporting away from a random is FAIR and ACCEPTABLE play you dolt! Pull your head out and learn to read!! As for your so called "opinion" on what I said about NOT killing the randoms where applicable, NO, they are NOT worth killing and anyone with a brain bigger than the size of a pea knows it. Perpetuating that they "might" be worth killing not only is pathetic, it implies that a player SHOULD kill one, risking death for nothing. IDIOT! So much for the rules of Wikipedia and not writing opinions. I sure hope that you don't give out advice over the official forums... you'd get laughed right off them. Or... maybe that's why you're here? You were mocked away from the RS forums for giving out utterly stupid advice to nooblets. Gahhhhhhhhhh! May a random stranger walk up and smack you in the back of the head for sheer stupidity! You've been called on your BS, not let's see how long THIS paragraph lasts before you "edit" it out!
- Your edits were reverted. A talk page is not the place to get into a heated discussion. If you feel you were blocked unfairly, I'd recommend contacting a sysop.

- There was alot of good content added to the top of the article, however the section added to trivia needs to be left out.

- I'll lower unprotection of this page to expire in thirty minutes instead of a few hours, unless there are objections? 22:49, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Cleanup
I think this article needs a cleanup because everything seems to be squashed together. I have marked it for cleanup. (Contribs) Frogging101 (My talk)

- The article is not very well written at the moment. It should be cleaned up. Different340 21:21, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, that's why I marked it for cleanup :).

[edit] Total Re-write & Edit
--The Possum 22:50, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
For anyone that gives a flying rip... about 2 weeks ago, I rewrote the entire section for random events and earlier today, I cleaned it up (for the most part) and removed the cleanup tag. If anyone thinks it isn't cleaned up enough, let me know.
Also, if anyone would like to see some other changes, leave a message with what you'd like to see, maybe I'll spend some more time on it. For whoever it was that thought that the whole thing was mashed together... um... what exactly are you thinking here? In other words, what do you mean? To me, it now is written at about a college graduate level (though it can still easily be improved on or be re-written all over again!) which is where it should be IMHO. Any comments or specific examples would be great... thanks!
PS As far as I know... the protect from range prayer does protect against damage from the Rock Golem... but since Jagex is notorious for switching the reality of Runescape around without warning... I too cannot be 100% sure this holds true anymore. I will say this though, the last time I tried it, it worked. That was a ways back though... so for all I know, this is NOT true like it used to be. Heck, for all I know, none of the protection prayers work against randoms anymore... sigh. I test as I remember too... that's all I can do.
- I have been watching you clean it up throughout the day, and I appreciate the work you put into it. =D

[edit] Random Editing Tonight
For all those obsessed with removing valuable data... you might want to state why you keep doing it??? Perhaps the only reason is the warning about the file size which can be ignored? It's not like it will melt down and scatter radioactive dust all over the place folks. Anyway, I plan on eventually breaking this page into TWO parts and I will reinstall all the missing and valuable bits... including the humorous material. Along with a lot more new material as well. Thanks!
--The Possum 00:32, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
If you want to add "humour" go to unrunescape wiki, this is an encyclopedia, not for humour in articles, and most of the "valuable bits" removed really weren't all that useful to begin with. (Oh and it's RuneScape, not Runescape) 00:49, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[edit] The Drunken Dwarf CAN be killed
...but not by you. I was killing Elite Black Knights a few nights ago, when a swarm appeared. Because the swarm started attacking me, my familiar, a Smoke Devil, started attacking the swarm, hitting all zeros. The swarm eventually disappeared. Later, a Drunken Dwarf appeared. Curious, I ignored it so it started attacking me. My Smoke Devil then started attacking it, and it killed the poor Dwarf. The drop was nothing but plain bones, however. This could be added to the article under trivia or something; its fairly interesting. Psycho Robot 16:10, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Random events in your POH
Can you get ransoms in your POH. Its just because I have never had one... Onedude
Err, I doubt it, when on a PvP World I was training con for about 3hours, not a single random. So I'd say no, but I don't have enough evidence. And leading on to something else... Randoms in PvP World?
[edit] Opening lead
I'm not exactly sure how to change it, but does the opening lead really have to be a question? Just seems really unprofessional and makes the article look all stupid compared to most other articles. Like I said, I'd change it but I'm exactly sure how to edit it to be better. Kudos 2 U Talk! Edit count! Contribs! 22:20, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Runescape Classic
I've been playing since classic, and this article states that Randoms were added in classic. This did not happen. On Classic, you would get a blue status message that said "You have not moved in the last 5 minutes, please move or you will be logged out". I remember that when we first tested the RS2 beta, people were posting on the forums asking if they had seen strange people giving them gifts, which was later known to be the Mysterious Old Man. Can anyone cite a source stating that randoms were implemented on RSC? Draco 06:05, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Real?
I was browsing the Unrunescape wikia when I stumbled across their random event section... I saw this clip there was a bunch of players following another. A player said lure, then a bunch of random events started comming out at an unnatural rate. This this ever happen or is this player made?

[edit] ent
the ent event is no longer discontinued. an ent broke my axe 10 minutes ago. it was rune as well. grr
- It was mentioned in BTS, it has not been stated that the event was removed yet.

17:16, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- None of the events have been discontinued yet. That'll be later in the month. WWTDD? 17:16, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Types of random events
Should we still organize them by type? on the RuneScape website it just lists all of the random events, it no longer has the 5 categories.
[edit] Cleanup
I think this article still needs a complete rewrite. It contains mostly information about retired events and mostly quotes about the new system. Also, I don't think there should be a heading "New system". Rather "Old system" and "current system".
My suggestion for organizing the whole article:
- Starting
- Types of random events
- List of random events
- Rewards
- Description of the old system
- Discontinued
- Trivia/myths
- Types of random events
- Ending stuff
For convenience's sake,

XfinXTalk 14:16, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Not completely what you wanted, but I guess my edits made the page look much better now.--

[edit] Discontiued Events
Should we make a separate category for discontinued events but also make it a sub category of the random events category? It would help organize the list of events (to me). -- Spencer (Talk | Edits | Contribs) 18:06, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, agreed. With all the discontinued events, it makes the article bulky and unwieldy. Boomer12342 01:59, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, perhaps we could have this current article as "Current Random Events" and have a new article created called "Discontinued Random Events".Nacho Novo9 22:17, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Beekeeper Event
I was in F2P, making fires in Edgeville, and then a Beekeeper teleported me away. I don't think he only teles people picking flax, and after i completed the event, he rewarded me with a random event gift box (this was after the event update). Any help? Benderlong 13:16, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- No, ALL random events can now occur ANYWHERE. I'm not sure if all are free-to-play tho. *goes to correct article*
