Beast of BurdenEdit

Can anyone expand on this method? This seems like it could actually speed things up given the proper environment. Obviously you can't do this in GE and I tested it out in Edgeville but the area is not big enough for the Spirit Terrorbird BoB. Mobilishing Armies seems to be a big enough area for the Terrorbird and maybe even the Turtle but I'm wondering if there are bigger areas that can accomodate the larger BoBs. You can definitly set the left click options on the Familar task to one click empty the BoB so you won't be interupted but does anyone know a quick way to fill the BoB from the bank inventory? That would make things go a lot faster. Quest Darrik Ash US serv HS ALDarklight detail 22:35, January 22, 2011 (UTC)

2 tinderbox vs 1 Edit

The 2 tinderbox method was removed as it was very very very bad advice. The space one must move their mouse utilizing a single tinderbox is very little, the second saves almost nothing. A person with one tinderbox can quite easily still be ready for their next click, mouse in position, well before they need to be. This is efficient, two tinderboxes might as well be 4 or 12. --Degenret01 00:17, June 10, 2011 (UTC)

It's the method I use. <.< Less time moving the mouse & less boring. Signature5.pngSignature5Last.png 00:21, June 10, 2011 (UTC)
This is a matter of opinion. You may feel as though maximum efficiency is the most important factor for training, whereas other players consider other factors like the amount of clicking involved. In this case, one of those factors is the distance you must move the mouse between the tinderbox and each log. Use of more than one tinderbox reduces the distance the mouse moves. So if those players might benefit from seeing the image and trying the method, why should we not include it on these training pages? --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 00:23, June 10, 2011 (UTC)
Key words right there. "if those player might benefit" They would not. They cannot. Being shown a slow way to do something is in no way beneficial. Glad you used that phrase.--Degenret01 00:46, June 10, 2011 (UTC)
Rather than cherry-picking quotes, I suggest you reread my post and focus on its actual meaning. Not everyone thinks that a method which sacrifices speed for convenience/lower cost/less work/whatever is inefficient. I have personally benefited from using two tinderboxes. Therefore, it is valid advice. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 00:48, June 10, 2011 (UTC)
All the in-depth guides [1] [2] [3] written by players with 99 Firemaking on the official forums mention the two-tinderbox method. I'm not saying that we should copy them; I'm just saying that it is a valid method and many people use it. Besides, if you really wanted maximum experience per hour, you would do that crazy method that involves firemaking backwards, right? You need to be fast with your mouse to use that method, so every bit of extra time between clicks helps.  Tien  01:09, June 10, 2011 (UTC)
I agree that the information is valid. 10th anniversary cake detailIt's Cook's afterbirth day! 01:57, June 10, 2011 (UTC)
I agree as well.Blasty Talk 04:21, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

Questionable Methods Edit

This goes somewhat along the lines of the removal of the 2+ tinderbox method. There are a few things I'm unsure of about in this article.

  1. Why allow the 2+ tinderbox method to be listed as an efficent method? No abled person is unable to move a mouse pointer to the next log by the time that is required to light the next fire, and you get less experience per hour by having more than one tinderbox. Just because some players prefer this method does not make it valid. If it eases boredom for some players, that is fine, but it should be noted as such, and not made out to be an efficient technique.
  2. Why suggest that players run 13 spaces east of the bank then start lighting fires? Is this not equivalent to starting in front of the bank then running back once you've finished?
  3. Unless I'm missing something on the backwards lighting method, the primary goal of it is to skip the lighting animation. However, you don't have to do click on the ground to skip the animation; you merely have to click the next log right after your previous fire was lit. Is the backwards lighting method somehow faster than this? Nirc 17:57, September 16, 2011 (UTC)

Kiln (clan citadel) Edit

I think Kiln should be added into any training regime (especially for those who wish to save money). While it may be slow firemaking exp, it is completely free. I gain about 140k/week (1700 resource cap) working my clan's kiln. That's 140k I don't have to spend on logs. Then I get a clan ring and get a 50% boost for a while.

Presuming that 1200 logs are burnt per hour:

  • Players who value their time at under 14,400 coins per hour should burn Willow logs.
  • Players who value their time between 14,400 coins per hour and 1120k coins per hour should burn Maple logs.
  • Players who value their time between 1120k coins per hour and 2053k coins per hour should burn Yew logs.
  • Players who value their time at over 2053k coins per hour should burn Magic logs.

I found this information VERY helpful!!!! All I had to do was read this to know what I should use to train. It's too bad other guides don't have other such tips =(

Updated with new information Edit

Why isn't bonfires included in this training guide?
