- The Katana caused some ruckus on the RuneScape forums. People are complaining, who live outside of the US, that they cannot get the sword and that they feel cheated. It's just a lump of shizzle, but I understand why people are ticked off about it.

What prevents non-USA players from getting the katana? Is it the area of purchase for the card? Is it the IP location when redeeming? Can someone have a friend buy a card in the USA and then just use that code? What exactly restricts non-USA people from getting this?

- GameStop is also in Ireland, and I know it stocks RS cards but personally I've never used one. I'd think that they can tell by the code on the cards - that some part of that code would identify what country the card is bought in. Also, nothing restricts non-USA people getting it, just so long as they can get thier hands on a card bought in the US.

similar problems came up with the flagstaff. american players would have a very hard time making it to runefest so adding a virtualy useless aestheticaly pleasing sword for US players balences it out a little. besides it is much more efficient for a european player to obtain a game card than for an american player to waste money on a runefest ticket that they cant use.
I feel cheated against both flagstaff and katana as I live in Norway... Making the items exclusive is lame

- Jagex can find out where you live based on your payment menthods (E.G. Credit Card) or your IP address, etc. It's really not that hard, they already have that info already so the cards/katana fiasco really has nothing to do with where you live and jagex trying to find that out.

Is purchasing the card enough to get you the katana, for example could you buy the card wait untill after July 20, ruse the card, thus begining/ continuing your membership and then recieve the katana even if the card was not used during those dates?

As a simple security measure, a card can't be used by a computer that is indicated as being located more then 50 miles from location of purchase for 1 week. Jagex may (and probably dose) have an agreement with gamestop to have access to this info. This could allow them to track location of purchase, time of purchase, and the can stop the offer on their side when time is up.--

Strange[]
I understand why some people are a bit ticked off about this. Runescape's never really had anything like a "promotional item" before from buying membership, and not counting the flagstaff. But it's only for decoration. It's a fancy iron two-hander, really. I'm just glad they aren't giving a completely over-powered sword; then I'd be mad along with everyone else.--

Ripoff[]
The 3 month membership card costs £12.99, equating to £4.25 a month. I currently pay £3.20 a month, so for £12.99 would get 4 months at a cost of £12.80. - That's why tons of people on the official forums are saying that it should either be given to all members or should be turned into a loyalty points reward. I doubt Jagex is going to listen, though. Also, talk pages are meant to be for discussing the article, not the article's subject, though that guideline isn't nearly as draconianly enforced as on Wikipedia. Still, it would probably advance both the article and the idea of how bad the Katana promotion is if you found a neutral way to put that information in the article. It's just so dissapointing that Jagex can sink so low. I bought the Eastern outfit from Zuan and now I realize I can't get the only weapon that really matches it. Somehow I doubt a kimono is going to look good with a Scimitar.

I also loathe the fact that Jagex basically told anyone living anywhere besides the US, Britain or Australia to "go F*ck themselves". To unveil a promotion only available in a few countries for limited times is unexcusable.
