Prevention Against Allotment Disease[]

The article states that when nasturtiums are present within a flower patch they help to protect strawberries and watermelons that are planted in the allotment patches around them. Does anyone know the extent to which they succeed in protecting the allotments? The article's description of this feature is rather vague. It states that nasturtiums "help prevent disease," but that leads me to believe that even though they help to prevent disease they do not prevent disease altogether. In other words, the article seems to claim that allotments are still capable of becoming diseased even if nasturtiums are planted in the flower patch and the appropriate fruits are planted in the allotment patches. Thus, if this is the case, how often do watermelons become diseased? Is it still necessary to water the allotments when nasturtiums are present in the flower patch?

I planted melons in both allotment patches after the nasturtiums were fully grown and both patches of melons are dead. I would also like to know this information. WiggleCat (talk) 23:53, September 19, 2018 (UTC)
