Reverse chronological order
Edit
Maybe this should redirect to "list of quests in chronological release order"? It's a bit of a mouthful, so a shorter name would be good, but I have always wanted to know the release order of some earlier quests, and the page would still maintain the use it has now. :) JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 22:12, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- Switch it to list of quests by date of release or LOQBDOR for short ;). --Whiplash 22:36, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Keep it in reverse chronological order as that would be the most useful. I'm always looking up a recent quest and keeping it at the top would be better. Chrislee33 22:53, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- There are only 117 quests in total. --Whiplash 23:08, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Underground pass
Edit
Yes, it is listed twice!. There are 2 update links and i'm not sure which is correct. Chrislee33 02:35, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- The earlier version is for RS classic, the later version for the new current RS. Chrislee33 03:38, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Undated quests
Edit
I've added members' and free quests which do not have dates near the bottom of the article page. Need help tracking dates if possible. Chrislee33 07:12, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Witch's House
Edit
I'm sure this came out with the other original classic members quests. It's the first members quest listed on the ingame quest journal on RS Classic, which is in chronological order. It did not come out after legends - that was Rune Mysteries. Dtm142 00:30, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Switched the 2 quests. Can someone with RS classic list the order of the quest in the journal? thanks Chrislee33 01:28, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Reviewed RSC quest journal. only 17 free quests and 50 total quests. Rune mysteries only free quest after RS2- no date yet. Chrislee33 07:46, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- found date for rune mysteries. "quest guide was entered into the RuneHQ.com database on Mon, Dec 01, 2003," [1]- Chrislee33 08:05, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- I am 100% positive that it was released with RS2 beta, as you said. Dtm142 20:43, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- found date for rune mysteries. "quest guide was entered into the RuneHQ.com database on Mon, Dec 01, 2003," [1]- Chrislee33 08:05, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Grand Tree - December 12th 2002
Edit
The quest is listed to have come out in 2003, while it really was released on December 12th with the agility skill. See this article. Dtm142 22:20, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- thanks, correction made. Chrislee33 23:42, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Feb 26 Recent edit reverted
Edit
Table is in reverse chronological order because most people want to know more about recent quests then older quests -- what was the name of that quest that came out recently?, when did it come out?, what was that quest that came out before/after that other recent quest? .... Therefore, the table headings (timeline dates) that appear further down the table should be read in a down to up order. The 51st quest Rune Mysteries of Dec 1 should appear above the timeline date heading RuneScape 2 beta released December 1, 2003 instead of below the heading. Chrislee33 07:03, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
27th or 28th of February?
Edit
Druidic Ritual, as well as all the quests listed in this list as 27 Feb are each respectively listed as 28 Feb in their respective articles. Which was it?
I'm curious because it was obviously the introduction of the new herblaw skill at the time. ~kytti khat 17:10, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm going to assume that Vimescarrot was off by 1 on the date as i spotted all the quest articles of the date in question were all updated on 8 January 2008. ~

release dates
Edit
how do quests 1-7 pre-date the release of runescape?Reddo 06:20, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- I dunno. My theory is the quests existed in DeviousMUD, the forerunner to RuneScape, which was created in 1998 by Andrew Gower. The game was never publicly released. az talk 13:30, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- "When RuneScape went into alpha testing March 2000, I and a few others from that games site alpha tested it. At that time we all had the option to write some quests, only the chat and invent people, invent objects etc, Andrew and his team of brothers then added the graphics and drew the items. so the chat, story, etc in RuneScript. I wrote Romeo and Juliet, simple first quest to try and get to grips with the code, and make it a story for all players, not just certain level ones." - Rab / Rob Law / Moderator, 18th of June 2003. I don't know where the December 1st 2000 thing comes from, tho. --RS Ren 22:26, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- The December 1st, 2000 date for Romeo & Juliet comes from the Internet Archives copy of the Runescape promo page when it was still in Alpha testing. I just added the information as an antique update message from Jagex that gives the exact quote from what I think was Andrew Gower himself, back when Jagex was just a handful of employees. That is a fun source of information, which needs to be mined for some of the early history of the game as well. There are a couple of other "updates" that I think could be extracted from the same source, but alas there isn't anything more detailed about when other quests were created. Romeo & Juliet is the first quest with a specific date for when it was released. --

Adding Quest Difficulty to This List
Edit
I'm compiling some information about JaGeX update qualities over time and it won't be much extra effort in my part to add a quest difficulty column to this page (easy, medium, grandmaster, etc). Considering this page is made for people who has historical interest of RuneScape's development, I think it'll be a nice addition to this page.
Any objections? Primadog 01:37, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- Great idea, go ahead.

- Oppose - Adding a difficulty column is unnecessary. People can just click on the quest page to know more. az talk 10:44, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- Added the difficulty column, hopefully it's not too invasive. I do think our current icon system for difficulty is not intuitive. The color dots do not correlate with anything from the game and it's not obvious what color corresponds to which difficulty. Perhaps we can replace them with a resized ones from here http://www.runescape.com/kbase/viewcategory.ws?cat_id=7 ? Primadog 07:35, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Upcoming quests
Edit
The upcoming quests section at the top mentions an upcoming Mahjarrat quest. The Temple of Sennisten is it, according to the news post. I'd edit the section myself, but I'm not quite sure how I'd word it. --Jimfromtx 17:59, December 3, 2009 (UTC)
Earliest quests
Edit
I'm not really sure why we have Romeo and Juliet as being released in December of 2000. The game wasn't even released until January 2001.

Erasing those made the quest order messed up. RfD is no longer 100th, The Chosen Commander is no longer 150, etc...

Two quest count columns
Edit
I propose there be two columns to count the number of quests. Column one would count the actual amount of amount of quests in the game currently. The second column would take into account the removed quests. This doesn't seem to be a big priority but this would show Recipe for Disaster at its intended spot. What say you.--Sceptileus 11:55, September 25, 2010 (UTC)
Problem?
Edit
There seems to be a problem with the total quest points possible for each quest
Im not sure what is right but I am sure it is wrong because of this:
when the blood pact came out there was a possible of 300 not 298
when wgs came out there was a total possible of 270 not 268
gunnars ground did not add any quest points
Removal of messy columns
Edit
I intend removing:
- Quest #
- Total QP Possible
as these are:
- messed up
- difficult to maintain
- don't provide useful information
Leave feedback here, or on my talk page if you have a different opinion. I'll probably wait at least 1 week. --

Quest Order #
Edit
We need a little consistency to the order ...
Shouldn't the quest order number be updated to reflect all quests that have been removed and replaced?
Currently the list shows 196, but that number excludes several removed items such as the 2 tutorial 'quests', a few of the first reworked quests, and the demoted Sheep Shearer and Witch Potion, yet the latest reowrked quests are struck thru but still counted ...Deltaslug (talk) 17:25, February 8, 2013 (UTC)
- I feel we should go back to the old numbering since that was clearly the correct numbering as recipe for disaster was the hundredth quest and the chosen commander the 150th ecetera. Now the 200th quest will be the 190th on the wiki and it'll look even stupider if the update is called 200th quest or something like the recipe for disaster update. 04ismailjj6 (talk) 19:50, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
- I agree, I had fixed this but someone reverted that. This page is about quests released, not quests ingame. The number is not supposed to reflect the amount of quests currently ingame. And I have another argument to support this case. If we include Learning the Ropes and Unstable Foundations, which we previously did not, then The World Wakes is the 200th quest, and it is sufficiently epic to assume that is what Jagex intended.

- The removed quests are struck trough only for extra convenience since it has no detrimental effect on the functioning of this page. Removed quests are still quests though, they still have articles on this wiki and are a very real part of RuneScape's history. It is simply nonsensical to list them and not number them. And it seems we all agree that they should be listed.

- This page is for total quest count and quest release order and dates, not their number at release. While RfD was number 100 at release, TWW was definitely not 200, hence the notice. Please read the outcome of the recently closed YG thread, thank you. Caek.

- Explain why TWW is not 200, other than it possibly being 198? And not sure what you mean by number at release, the quests do not have an inherent number, the numbers on this page are merely to easily count how many entries are on this page, and I doubt anyone would disagree that there are 200 entries (other than the first 6 quests possibly being a single entry). And it's pointless to keep mentioning the Yew Grove without mentioning which thread and linking there. Why wasn't that discussed on this talk page anyway, that's what it's for.

- TWW is 188 because it's the 188th quest release to date. Things like Prince Ali Rescue or Druidic Ritual (old) should not have a number because they don't exist. Again, this article is NOT for what number a quest was at release - individual quest pages have that. This page is for total quest count (which is 188) and the order of release. Also, Forum:Remove 'quest order' from list of quests. The quest numbers on this page are not supposed to show which the number the quest was at release (RfD - 100), but the total number of quest and the order of release (RfD - 91, since 9 quests before RfD no longer exist).

What if we included both numbers? One column for release order number, and one for quest number? That is a good compromise, I think. az talk 13:17, March 24, 2013 (UTC)

- I feel that since the title of the page is "List of quest release dates", it should first be a list of dates on which quests were released , and a list of currently existing quests second. This would necessarily give each quest the number it had on its release day, and include removed quests and their reworks seperately. Footnotes could be used to denote content which no longer exists as a quest. Quorzonix (talk) 10:16, April 6, 2013 (UTC)
