First 99sEdit

Scuzzy got 99 invention in under 24 hours. The next runner up was Epic Nick at level 08:14, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

Who on earth would confuse invention with inventory? I think that line is unnecessary. -Shaun Dreclintalk 19:46, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

An alternative name for the skill is Inventor, which, as far as I know, also redirects to this page. Typo-ing gets you at the entirely wrong page then, so we put the line there to avoid people having to type it in again. Beach ball ThePsionic Ice cream 21:25, January 26, 2016 (UTC)
Ahh okay, typing inventor when you meant to type inventory makes a lot more sense haha -Shaun Dreclintalk 21:41, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

Invention hotfixesEdit,408,202,65737234,goto,1

EDIT: A new hotfix has just gone into the game.

- Undead materials have been reduced in chance to receive, having had a similar effect to hand cannons.
-Note: Disassembling Malevolent gear will still yield the same amount of Undead materials.

- Increased charges stored on divine charge

Thanks for the great response and feedback we have received so far with the release of Invention yesterday – this is a skill that will continue to grow across the year as more devices and perks are added and players continue to discover them. There are some changes we are conducting today to ensure we maintain an appropriate balance to the skill and make sure that Invention works how we envisaged it.

  • Increase experience gained from using Augmented Gear by 25%.
  • Add communication to Gizmo Shell interface, to explain that you gain more positive perks if you have a higher invention level.
  • Change the cost of Augmentors from 200 base parts & 50 Enhancing components to 45 base parts, 45 flexible parts, 45 tensile parts, 8 enhancing components & 7 powerful components.
  • Reduce experience gained from using Unique components by 30 to 50%.
  • Reduce materials gained from disassembling Gold and Coal.
  • Reduce experience gained from disassembling unstrung bows.
  • F2P willl be able to use meteorite dust on F2P skills again
  • Drokar and Oldak will not talk to you about invention until you have completed the tutorial.

We have also already made a number of Hotfixes to ingame bugs:

  • Change to stop the disassembly of God capes.
  • Change to stop the disassembly of Agile top & legs.
  • Change to remove a way that players could get stuck in the tutorial.
  • Change to remove a second way that players could get stuck in the tutorial.
  • Change to remove combat dummies from Augmented Gear levelling.
  • Change to restore Telekentic Grab functionality.
  • Change to restore repair functionality of Blood Amulet of Fury/Superior Seasinger Cape.
  • Change to ensure Challenge Gem challenges do not cancel make-x while disassembling items.
  • Change to Harmony Seeds to not include Invention.

We are genuinely interested in your feedback and will be continuing to listen to the comments you make, while watching all the lovely game data you produce, as we look to refine and improve the skill.

Should all these different invention pages be moved to subpages? Like Materials > Invention/Materials, Devices > Invention/Devices, etc. -Shaun Dreclintalk 21:22, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

Disassemble effect stacking?Edit

Do the effects from disassembling equipment stack?  That is, for example, would disassembling at level 8 not only return the gizmo, but also give triple materials, no junk, and the random uncommon material?  Or do you trade off the other benfits for that one?  I hope the former, as I'd hate to have to choose between lvl 10 for full exp and lower levels for more materials and gizmo return...  Jimwormmaster (talk) 12:31, January 27, 2016 (UTC)

Augmented items xp gainsEdit

I honestly could not think of a better way to word that title. I think it would be a good idea if monsters on the rs wiki had a section added so you can list how much experience you get towards augmented weapons. I'm not sure if you get the same experience for a 2h wep vs 1 hand. I know armor gains less experience, so if someone finds out it's different (weapons wise) maybe we could have a box for 1h, 2h and armor. Then as people find out the amount of experience earned it can be edited in. At first I thought it would be nice to just have a section in the invention guide, but then I thought about how many monsters there are and realized that would get very bulky very fast. I don't know how you would add sections to the monster's details (where it shows weakness, attack style and all that stuff) so I'm leaving it up to someone else who does, otherwise I might break something. Raw rocktail Phox1515 HS Rocktail 02:49, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

Came here to say the same thing.  I think augmented xp (you're right, there's no way to say that without saying weird), I think augmented xp should be a section in the monster box right under combat xp.  This cannot be done by editing individual pages, as the monster box is a template.  Someone will have to edit the template, and a blank will then appear on all monster pages which can be filled in.  I am not sure how to edit a template, in fact I think it is something only mods can do.  So just writing to hopefully bring more attention this much needed feature on the wiki.  On how fast 2h's and 1h's level up: a stickied Reddit thread said that 2h's level up faster than mainhands which level up faster than offhands, but I am unsure of the accuracy on that (I think I remember conflicting information from Jagex themselves, but can't find the source).  At most though, we would need five additional boxes in the monster template for augments xp (2h, mainhand, offhand, body, and legs).
Moontempt (talk) 03:52, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

The amount of equipment experience you get is based on the base combat experience of the monster. Armour and main-hand weapons get 4%, off-hands get 2%, and two-handed weapons get 6%. Additionally the equipment experience is capped at 300 per kill.

So, for example, killing one abyssal demon will give:

  • 661 experience to the skill you are using (or split, based on your settings)
  • 218.1 experience to Constitution
  • 26.4 to any augmented armour and main-hand weapon you are using
  • 13.2 to any augmented off-hand weapon you are using
  • 39.6 to any two-handed weapon you are using

I don't know if infobox monster will get any new fields for this yet. Quest Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 04:14, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

Do you think this skill should get added to the Controversy category? There is still a lot of ongoing critism with this skill (examples such as charge drain reductions, improvement on perks, and lack of existing content). During release date, there were a numerous complaints about how it was difficult for the lesser rich people to afford the skill (no longer the case). Puretppc (talk) 02:33, April 28, 2016 (UTC)

Players create "controversy" around almost everything new now. To me, what you mentioned is Jagex just ironing out issues with the skill – they're still changing rates and mechanics, and there are whole sections of Invention that haven't been released yet. Tbh Category:Controversies is a violation of RS:NPOV and should be deleted --Iiii I I I 02:56, April 28, 2016 (UTC)

Bonus ExperienceEdit,408,92,65815428

Hello everyone,

The Invention XP Amnesty will be ending on Monday July 25th and we’ve made this post for clarification on what you can expect when this comes into play.

  • All Lamps/Stars require completion of the Invention tutorial before using on Invention.
  • Any XP/Bonus XP which can be used on Invention will gain XP at a 50% reduced rate
    • Quest XP rewards
    • Lamps/Stars
    • Dragonkin Lamp
    • XP Books/Items
    • Minigame rewards such as troll invasion and penguins
  • All bonus XP consumed will double the XP gain as with other skills.
  • Tears of Guthix/Guthix Butterflies
    • Note: Invention must be unlocked to benefit from these
    • If a skill other than Dungeoneering and Invention is below 99 the XP will go to the lowest XP skill overall
    • If all other skills are 99 the XP will go to the lowest level of Invention and Dungeoneering, and if both levels are the same to the skill with the lowest XP
  • Disassemble and siphoning XP from weapons/tools
    • Bonus XP can be used here.
    • Other boosts will not apply here.
  • Item XP
    • Double XP weekends will give double XP to the levelling of your items instead of the XP gained
    • Certain modifiers are applied to item XP instead of disassembly, including:
    • Bonus XP weekend
    • Clan avatars
    • Wisdom aura
  • Jack of Trades will count Invention as a Skill

We hope this helps clear up the details on it!

Thanks for reading :)

Do we know anything about post-update XP rewards (19 September 2016). I got exactly 21,193.3 bonus XP from a prismatic medium fallen star at lvl 66, so I'm not sure if the 50% reduction is in place in any way anymore. Thingummywut (talk) 07:44, September 20, 2016 (UTC)
I received ~16k XP from the Legendary JOT reward book, didn't seem to differ much from usual unless they forgot to update this specific "lamp". Willow tree Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon 07:55, September 20, 2016 (UTC)
Yes, looks like it. I got either 4,324 or 4,324.1 from a master reward book, which is exactly 50% of the regular value at level 66. Thingummywut (talk) 08:08, September 20, 2016 (UTC)
Still at level 66: either 70,642.7, 70,642.8 or 70,642.9 XP from Huge XP lamp (Broken Home). Multiplier is at least very close to that of fallen star compared to regular skills, so I guess it's safe to say at least that it's still based on level and not XP, for example. Thingummywut (talk) 09:49, September 20, 2016 (UTC)
I think I got it: The reward now is 50% of the reward that they give to regular skills, scaled on how many rewards are needed to progress one level. If level 66-67 required 100 lamps in a regular skill, it requires 200 lamps in Invention. I'll add some explanation to article. Someone more competent should do some template work on it. Thingummywut (talk) 10:25, September 20, 2016 (UTC)

Last week, before the promo for meteor, I won a Medium fallen star (Invention). It gave 13,535 bxp at 96 invention. That appears to be ~69.93% of the other skills. Not sure if it changes for other levels however. --Jlun2 (talk) 03:15, January 16, 2017 (UTC)

The current meteor storm promotion gives 100% more bonus experience for the lowest skills. At 97 invention, a small space dust gave 13,095 bonus experience. This was my lowest skill, so this implies a Small fallen star (Invention) would've gave 6547.5 bxp instead. That would be ~65.37% of the original experience (non elite skill) however. --Jlun2 (talk) 03:49, January 16, 2017 (UTC)

I can confirm that to this day, lamps from Achievements are skill halved; got the fremmy task 2 lamp and it gave 10k xp for every skill, but 5k on invention. --Jlun2 (talk) 01:40, January 31, 2017 (UTC)

From Troll Invasion wave 7 hard, at 98 invention: 38,032 XP. On other skills, it would've been 76,064. So it seems to apply to this as well. --Jlun2 (talk) 02:07, February 1, 2017 (UTC)

5m to 200mEdit

This is like 195M xp/Hr confirmed. :) --Jlun2 (talk) 03:43, October 17, 2016 (UTC)
