So, when you mine a gem rock, are the gems you get random or does a rock contain a specific gem? --220.237.32.246 04:42, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Gem Rocks + glory[]

I've mined my share of these to get crafting up to 82... I'm positive that using an amulet of glory while mining gem rocks significantly decreases mining time. Karlis (talk) (contribs)

Contributing to Gem mining chance[]

Is it possible to submit what we mined in the gem rocks? So we could help refine the percentages? Or is it already at really high numbers of test gems?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dangercrow (talk) on 19:08, August 6, 2010 (UTC).

I think we should always be submitting more data. I just mined 411 rocks with dragon pickaxe and glory. According to this page in the Trivia section Crafting level has an effect on high leveled gems you can receive. My crafting level was 72 at the time. I was also using a decorated mining urns the whole time but I doubt that has any effect on the outcome. Anyways...
My results:
411 Gems total
201 Opal (48.9%)
78 Jade (19%)
34 Topaz (8.3%)
42 Sapphires (10.2%)
28 Emeralds (6.8%)
14 Rubies (3.4%)
14 Diamonds (3.4%)
This is 100% accurate. I also placed all precious gems in a gembag as I went a long to keep a better tally of my gem count.
I think these results awarded me better gems because of my crafting level versus the results on the main page.
Use them if you'd like.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.72.212.243 (talk) on 10:23, February 23, 2011 (UTC).

GEM ROCKS[]

i agree glory does speed up mining process on gem rocks considerably. although you get worse (less valuble) gems for it.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.254.83.97 (talk) on 11:08, August 20, 2010 (UTC).

Where is "the south"?[]

In the trivia it says there might be a higher chance of getting better stones in "the south" the south of karmja? or all of rs? or whereever else... Omni-talisman RuneOfSofranTalk Law rune 23:11, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

Ring of Wealth + Amulet of glory[]

Here are my results using Ring of Wealth(4), Amulet of glory(3), Rune Pickaxe, and Varrock Armour (which I don't belive does anything for gem rocks).

Stats: 64 mining, 68 crafting

Total gems: 225
Opal: 91 (40.44%)
Jade: 57 (25.33%)
Red Topaz: 23 (10.22%)
Sapphire: 21 (9.33%)
Emerald: 14 (6.22%)
Ruby: 8 (3.56%)
Diamond: 11 (4.89%)

Total Value: 183,837

Average Value per gem mined: 817.053

This suggests that a charged ring of wealth can help improve the average value per gem by 186.101. Thunder9092 03:24, September 9, 2011 (UTC)

Prifdinnas gem rocks[]

I personally believe that they should have their own page, like the Kal'gerion ones, considering both their vastly different appearances and yields.

Uncut Dragonstone in Prifddinas[]

I'm guessing that Elf City Gem Rocks do not drop Uncut Dragonstones right? Puretppc (talk) 06:32, December 14, 2014 (UTC)

No, the Elf City rocks do not give uncut dragonstones. Ozotuh (talk) 17:15, January 29, 2015 (UTC)

Prif Gem Rock Counts are unreproducible[]

http://pastebin.com/wYZ4Ggyd

Basically, the given % add up to 99.98% so I tried to account for rounding error by manually manipluating counts that sum up to 11771, the given N. I could not find how such rounded error was possible and so I think the data needs to be re-evalutaed as it is inconsistent with itself.

If anyone has a link to where the RAW data is kept, please post it. Otherwise, I think the data should be removed.

The data came from a Reddit post, I suspect the listed percentages were copy-pasted from one of the comments there. https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/2r9rwt/results_from_mining_10000_gems_in_prifddinas/

Rework possibly[]

I feel like the chances for the gemrocks in Shilo Village and others could use a recount/redo...the luck rework is out now and we should definitely see if the rework affected the chances majorly. Also, it seems it would be better to unify the total percentages on the pages to use the same amount of sample-sizes per area, i.e 1000 for Shilo and 1000 for Kharrid. Also, it may be more statistically sound to test one set of 1000 without any luck modifiers (for a standard control group) and then another set with luck modifiers.--LaDestitute (talk) 06:55, March 29, 2017 (UTC)
