'Full' Protection from Dragonfire?[]

Does the fully charged shield really give complete protection? I fought red and bronze dragons with a full charge and still got damaged by normal dragonbreath and the bronze dragons' ranged dragonbreath attack. This was when wielding the shield alone. I get the ingame message "Your shield absorbs most of the dragonfire" and I only get complete immunity when using an antifire pot at the same time... 129.234.233.241 20:03, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

question[]

question, crystal shield degrades over time, does this do as wel, or is it only needed one time to charge?

It can be charged up to 50 times as I understand the article. Also, Each time the firebreath option isused, it decreases (I assume) by one charge, thus weakening the shield slightly. I can be recharged though. I believe that it is charged by absorbing dragonbreath, but I'm not sure. Smithing TIRRIANGANT (TALK) 21:43, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Tirrian, you're right about the gaining charges. Jagex said specifically that you accumulate one charge each time the shield takes a blow from dragonbreath. I'm not sure about what happens to the charges when you use the dragonbreath attack, but I'm guessing you're right, too, that it uses one charge up. Thunderbird346 23:09, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
in that case, im going to buy one, get pounded by a steel dragon 50 times, and have the best shield in the game, without having to recharge! :)

The shield can hold up to 50 charges of dragonfire at one time. The stats are at max when it has all 50 charges. When you use the charges the stats of the shield slowly degrade but the shield will never 'turn to dust' so to speak. The problem I'm finding lately is that everytime I've asked about these (to buy one or see if anyone has one), people are still getting it confused with the Anti-dragon shield, so either they don't read the updates (most likely) or they're confused, or both. In either case I haven't been able to ask anyone who actually has one about what they think about it. :o) Smithing TIRRIANGANT (TALK) 18:30, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

What is the smithing reward for attaching the visage to the shield? That doesn't seem to be specified anywhere in the Wiki. Thanks! Steelhorse66 20:08, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

In my opion the dragon sheild is way to much but i do see the pros of having this weapon / sheild.

You're rewarded 2,000 Smithing EXP for attaching the visage to the anti-dragon shield.

The price has been reduced significantly since the comment about price has been made. 18:49, September 20, 2012 (UTC) - Via Anonymous

The Dragonfire effect[]

If you use the Dragonfire effect on someone who's wearing an anti-dragon shield or under the effects of a fire potion, is the max damage greatly reduced (to about 5 or 8), or does it still hit very high damage (like 25+)? --Drummer (speak) 06:35, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

It's reduced. That, or I'm having really had luck with it.

If you use this effect on someone wearing the shield, do they get charge?

POH Steels?[]

Considering you don't get any exp for fighting these, do these POH Steel Drags still charge the shield? And do you get a game message every time it charges?

Dunno about the steels, but it tells you when you get a charge

Nitros629 20:53, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes indead you do get charges for your DFS from a steel dragon in a POH Slayer helmet Hmanballer talk | edit count | sign | HS Fire cape 02:45, September 25, 2009 (UTC)

Smithing Assist[]

Would recieving assistance from someone with 90+ Smithing mean you can attach a Visage to the shield without paying a fee? Or does this not work?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.154.117.102 (talk).

You only have to pay a fee if you have Oziach do it for you. So no, it won't cost anything to attach it through the Assist system. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 20:01, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Operate[]

Do you actually have to be in combat in order to operate the shield and release the attack, or can you operate it while not in combat and click on the opponent you want to target?  Tien  18:14, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

You can operate the shield before attacking and then when you attack the the shield will hit first. You can also release all charges by right clicking the shield in inventory, which is useful if you want to sell it (charged version is untradable). Why cant i sell my dragon fire shield[]

i have use the shield charged it a few times but i cant trade it any more what do i have to do to make it normal again ??  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.26.104.147 (talk).

You have to right click it and pick "release" or something like that. Then you can trade it. http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu33/Psycho_Robot/Sigs%20and%20Avatars/kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 18:06, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Psyco Robot is indead right if you cant sell it right click the shield and click 'Release' this should release all charges in the DFS and should now be ready to sell. Hope this helps Slayer helmet Hmanballer talk | edit count | sign | HS Fire cape 02:51, September 25, 2009 (UTC)

Barbarian Assault?[]

Can someone try using the dragon fire ability in barbarian assault and see what happens?

The shield's effect doesn't work in Barb assault. Barb assult you need to attack with a specific attack style, the shield has none.219.89.138.27 23:33, February 12, 2010 (UTC)

dfs in mini games?[]

if i die in a safe mini game like dull arena or casle wars with a charged dfs will it become un charged  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.126.239.27 (talk).

The DFS does not loose it's charge if you die in a safe game. It doesn't normally loose it's charge if you die in non-safe places either. It is not like barrows items that break when dropped. Amaurice talk 13:01, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

Does dfs degrade overtime without discharging?[]

I was just wondering if, as the title states, the dfs degrades/loses charges over time just from use. (like dung/crystal shields)

I'm talking about NO discharging at all, JUST TAKING DAMAGE for hours of combat, nothing else.

In other words, i can give the shield 50 charges, use it all the time (NO DISCHARGING OF ANY KIND), and hours, days, and weeks later, it still has 50 charges.

Because if so, it should be more clear in the description.

And sorry for the excessive clarification, i just want to make sure no one mis-understands what i'm asking. Thanks :D

65.30.55.110 04:13, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

No, the shield does not degrade over time. The only way to make it weaker is to release all of its charge. Suppa chuppa Talk 04:45, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

hey i was just wondering if you could use a dragon visage on a anti dragon fire sheild to make a dfs?

Yes, that would be what the visage is for. You need 92 Smithing, though. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 02:22, December 23, 2010 (UTC)

wrong thing in the dragonfire shield info[]

it says the special attack doesnt work on metal dragons though i've hit multiple times round 200 at steels with it

~Necroshade57~

The DFS doesn't work on Chromatic Dragons (Non-Metal Dragons) but it does work pretty well on metal dragons as the metal dragons are weak to fire, maybe you misread and though Chromatic meant metal? Because when I read the article it seemed correct.

Rewrite/Dragonfire attack tests[]

Okay, first, I've rewritten the page to be more encyclopedic. Woop.

I've performed a few tests on the shield's dragonfire attack, and came to a few conclusions:

  1. The attack's maximum range is 12 squares. This was determined at the Duel Arena with obstacles.
  2. Magic accuracy does not affect the dragonfire attack's accuracy. I fired at Lumbridge goblins wearing enough Magic-penalizing equipment to get my attack bonus down to -87 (well below the -65 required for a straight 0% accuracy) and was still able to hit. Currently, I am unsure what affects the dragonfire's accuracy, aside from standard dragonfire-reducing effects (antifire potion, anti-dragon shield, etc).
  3. Its maximum hit is nowhere near the 300+ that was previously stated by the article. Sixteen shots at a lesser demon yielded no hits greater than 240; therefore, I am going to place that as the attack's maximum hit until someone determines otherwise.
  4. I can tentatively support the idea that chromatic dragons are immune to the dragonfire. I've only fired on one a few times, but they all missed.

All this information has been incorporated into the article. Feel free to ask questions or request additional testing if anything seems incorrect. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 19:22, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

The special attack of dragonfire shield is a ranged attack, and is affected by range bonuses. I found this out in duel arena when range attacks were turned off. I tried to use the special and I could not because it is a range attack. I then tried to see what would happen if I were to pot rng and use full slay helm and the special hit 300+. Try it for yourself.

Hello runescape wikia, Just wanted to ask you if the ava's attractor still works with the dragonfire shield so it can pick up arrows. Thanks! P.s. site is my most resourceful runescape database

There shouldn't be any interference. Suppa chuppa Talk 14:57, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

Will this sheild still work in the combat beta? How high will it hit?

Dramatic price drop, why?[]

I was wondering why the shield has experienced a dramatic price drop. Does it have to do with the chaotic kiteshield (being better, and rich ppl therefore dropping their fireshield)? Or do people start prefering the dragon defender better (because it's a great alternative?)... or perhaps the arrival of the amazing sacred clay shields? Or something else? So, the kind request: can anyone shed more light on this? . . . Yours, This user admires the Void Knights. Who aim to maintain Gielinor's Equilibrium. My guess is that the increase in the number of visages causes the price to drop over time Mojohaza1 16:50, September 13, 2011 (UTC)

Hi- so here is my predicament[]

I have a dragonfire shield and many dragon defenders, and i am not sure whether or not to sell my dfs. My armor setup is a nezzy, fury, fire cape, bandos tassets, bandos chestplate, whip/ korasi's sword, dragon boots, & barrows gloves Should i sell my dragonfire shield? o yeah and i also mainly train and do slayer. also, my def is 82  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ponking3 (talk).

Glitch[]

During the Grotto event in temple trekking the flame in the new dfs turns blue.

Surprisingly that it stays blue even after the event. Also you can teleport everywhere with it without turning back to orange again.

Only logging out turns it back to normal.

Boss usage?[]

The page mentions that unleashing a charge from the DFS will one-hit kill any creature that does not have resistance to dragonfire, with the exception of some boss monsters. Which boss monsters can the DFS be successfully used on, if not to one-hit kill, but to at least deal massive damage? It would also be useful to know how much damage discharging a DFS (either one charge or releasing them all) can do, especially to those monsters that do take damage but aren't one-hit killed. In summary: which boss monsters does the DFS work against, how much damage does expending a charge deal against resistant monsters (such as metal dragons), and how much damage could be dealt by expending all of the charges at once?

I'm thinking about unleashing it at Jad, as I've had issues with him in the past. If this thing works against him (especially if it'll one-hit him), then off I go ASAP.

71.60.85.165 18:16, July 21, 2012 (UTC)

That information was blatantly false; the dragonfire shield's attack does not instantly kill any target regardless of level. I have removed it from the article. Sorry about that. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 20:44, July 21, 2012 (UTC)

EoC change?[]

I recently purchased a dfs, and now have it fully charged, but I can't seem to release the attack, is this because of the EoC? Or is there a way I just haven't found? 24.247.108.45 18:30, November 28, 2012 (UTC)

All I can say is: I have experienced the same thing... unfortunately. {{SUBST:Template:Signatures/Leon Art}} (talk) 18:46, November 28, 2012 (UTC)
same thing here, both my mage dfs and melee dfs cant fire a dragon fire attack. Heavyoak (talk) 13:58, December 3, 2012 (UTC)
I've experienced the same thing. I'm assuming it's due to EoC, because all of the special abilities of weapons have been removed, so has the special ability of the dfs. Rather unfortunate, really. Karmaguy (talk) 06:38, December 13, 2012 (UTC)

Is there any difference?[]

ls there any difference between the malee, ranged or magic version of DFS?

Combat stats look the same in the wiki.

Someone told me having the same type as the combat you're using is beneficial, but I have yet to see how.
