Dragon Defender Edit

Will it be tradeable or untradeable?

It will be untradable, similar to all of the other defenders. There has been a quite limited number of tradable items released recently, most current is the Sling, followed by the treasure trails update, elemental bodies and Strykewyrms, and past that is more than a year ago. I wonder if cyclossus is going to be bossmonster.

Judging by how it's extremely strongly implied that Colossus will be available in a similar way to the normal Cyclopes, now's a good time to start hoarding tokens... Cromeus 06:43, December 2, 2010 (UTC)

New Helmet?Edit

Did anyone else notice that both the Colossus and the player fighting it are wearing some sort of cap or helmet? May be another drop... The Vanguardian 20:47, December 4, 2010 (UTC)

In behind the scenes it mentions for a new 'eyeball-orientated' costume mask and, of course, the dragon defender itself'. I believe it is clear that the boss will drop both the mask and the defender. Lathow 04:51, December 5, 2010 (UTC)

I have that helmet. It offers no bonuses whatsoever. It /appeared/ to increase the spawn rate of Cyclossuses attacking me, however I cannot confirm this. It weighs 3.1kg.

DesignEdit

Personally, I think the design is based both on the dragon longsword and the dragon scimitar. (And yes, the images need to be cleaned up.) --Limxzero 16:54, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

If I'm not mistaken the defenders are based off parrying daggers which were popular during the late middle ages. bronze-rune are basic parrying daggers while the dragon defender is based off the sword breaker class of parrying daggers. The teeth on the back would be used to catch the opponents weapon and possibly break it. I do agree it looks very much like the previous version of the dragon scimitar though.   Sci ^(talk)  19:44, December 8, 2010 (UTC)

Drop rate? Edit

Anyone get one, and in how many kills? I've read on the forums that the drop rate is basically 1/5. Maybe this is because of the high demand for it? I can't find out myself as I can't even get one kill. TzTok-Gas ^talk 17:47, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

I got one in 3 kills but I've been hearing anywhere from 1-7 kills.

I've heard one drop in 18 kills from earlier on today. I don't know of people are proud, and rightly so, of their quick find, and post a quick drop on the forums, or whether the drop is genuinly lower, but you can expect anything between 3 and 20 kills. --Mike-south 23:26, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Dragon Defender Stats Edit

I was one of the lucky guys today i guess... I got my drag defender after the 3rd kill (of normal cyclops, so not only the boss drops the defender). It has a +6str Bonus. For all stats, look at the knowledge base... Greetings Col

Deleting facts and/or uploading irrelevant things Edit

It would be appreciated if the members that deleted the interesting facts like what the defender resembles or the first pictures of it could stop immediately. Hi there. Unforunately, we're not here to take glory. You should have realized by now that this is a collaboration and no one is here to take credit (see our ownership policy. We do not have opinion or speculation in articles. It's your opinion that the dragon defender looks like the dragon longsword. They have very little in common other than the fact that they both have spikes (and even then the spikes are different/not the same amount.) It's Cook's afterbirth day! 19:26, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Corporeal beast Edit

I wanted to point out that stating that korasi's sword + dragon defender is a cheap alternative to the zamorakian spear is INCORRECT, as the korasi's sword receives a 50% damage reduction at the corporeal beast, rendering it near useless

I believe the damage reduction is based on attack style, not weapon, meaning as long as you are on the stab option this statement is true. Also, even if it is untrue for Corp Beast, as long as you use a super dragonfire potion, this is an excellent option for KBD. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Since the penalty is only for non-spear type stab attacks, this is true. I also think that it would be a great weapon against any dragon if using a super antifire potion Touhou FTW 03:27, December 8, 2010 (UTC)

You were correct about the corp thing but the defender plus korasi's sword is a much cheaper alternative against other monsters seeing as theyre both free korasi's only costs to get it back even then thats a fraction of the spears price spear is close to 4.5m last i checked and korasi's sword is about 200k ish to get back. Compare to Dscim Edit

People Compare it to the Dscim, Here is what I made, but i'm sure someone can make something better:

I recognise this design of defender, from the dragon scimitar poll a month or two back. Maybe its a recycle of a somewhat nice but rejected design for the dragon scimitar? It doesn't look bad, and it's certainly not a visible case of recycling of a reject design, but I'm sure jagex could have made the defender a bit more "defender"ish rather than a previous weapon appearance. --Mike-south 23:29, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Wiki page design Edit

I am not fully familiar with wiki editing as yet, but would it be possible for somebody to shrink the current image of the avatar with the dragon defender? It appears all that is required to make the image look good is to shrink it, even if it remains half the size of the statistics box. And it appears that the statistics box is stretched top-bottom-wise too. --Mike-south 23:34, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

It's an extra drop, so it's random-ish. I killed ~10 cyclopes and got it but then killed like 50 more and didn't get another. Evil1888 ^{Talk A's L} 19:23, December 8, 2010 (UTC)

Mine dropped about the same as jonaboy's. Though it might have been slightly more than 15 kills. then I killed a few more and cyclossus appeared and dropped his mask.

I don't know why but it took me probably 100-250 kills to get my mithril defender. I got my first defender on my 3rd kill. I wasted over 100 sharks to get up to mithril. Was it a waste? Hunt Dialga 23:24, December 19, 2011 (UTC)

Significantly weakened power after Evolution (end) of CombatEdit

Considering how hard the dragon defender is to obtain, I have thought that it would still be powerful after the eoc. But the dragon defender is incredibly weak now, much weaker than offhand dragon longsword and offhand dragon claw. The offhand dragon longsword and offhand dragon claw are incredibly cheap to obtain (simply buy from Grand Exchange) and the dragon defender is still an untradeable only obtained from the Warrior's Guild. It doesn't seem right that a weapon much harder to obtain (dragon defender vs. offhand dragon longsword/claw) be so much inferior in combat. They really should improve the dragon defender's stats (e.g. since they took away its advantage of being the highest attack bonus for offhand melee items, give it a large defensive bonus to make up for the fact that it is more difficult to obtain than any shield or offhand weapon).
