Clever table?
Edit
Any chance of a table similar to that of the one on the superheat item page? I don't know the wiki code to do it but raw price take away cooked to show xp per gp lost would be nice.
86-99 Cooking (f2p)
Important Info: No burn points: Tuna 65, Lobster 74, Swordfish 86
XP 86-99= 9436639
R Tuna 94 C Tuna 78 Net Loss 16 XP 100 .16GP/XP
R Lob 274 C Lob 223 Net Loss 51 XP 120 .425GP/XP
R Sword 432 C Sword 384 Net Loss 48 XP 140 .34GP/XP
Let's say one cooks 1,000 fish in an hour.
Tuna = 100K xp for 16k
Lobster = 120K xp for 51K
Swordfish = 140K xp for 47.6K
In short
NEVER COOK LOBSTERS
1-49 whatever
49-59 Trout
Pike in the middle here if you want
59-65 Salmon
65-74 TUNA
74-86 COST: TUNA SPEED: LOBSTER
86-99 SPEED: SWORDFISH COST: TUNA WASTE: LOBSTER NEVER COOK LOBSTERS
If you don't understand my point you may want to get your eyes checked.
Old Man Tellah 08:32, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Since at this level you will not burn anything that will not be a variable. All food is cooked at the same speed so Swordfish will be the fastest xp.
Unfortunately this data is about a year and a half old, so most of it is no longer true, due to Grand Exchange prices shifting. I can get current data for this and the superheat item page, but I don't know how to make a table. Old Man Tellah 04:28, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

99 Cooking
Edit
This article states that cooking is one of the easiest skills to reach 99 in - that if all the supplies are already bought, it only takes about 2 weeks of cooking. I'd like to try this, but does anyone know what the supplies are, and how much they would cost? 75.177.131.250 21:27, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
And i quote from the guide:
| Levels | Items to make | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 - 10 | Meats, Shrimps/Sardines/Anchovies, or Bread | At this level, just cook anything currently available. Efficiency is not important because the first 10 levels are quickly gained. |
| 10 - 30 | Assorted Fish | Cook fishes such as trout, cod, pike and salmon. These are easily obtainable with the Fishing skill. |
| 15 - 99 | Trout | Buy raw trout in Grand Exchange then cook and sell back in grand exchange. This way is very popular with players, and so buying trout may take some time. Also, a loss will be made when selling back. However, the loss made is a fraction of that made when training to 99 cooking with most other fish. |
| 30 - 40 | Tuna | Raw tuna can often be found in the Karamja general store on f2p worlds, where banking the tuna is inconvenient. With a small startup capital, raw tuna can be bought from the shop, cooked, then sold back. Otherwise, fish for raw tuna on your own to cook. Cooking gauntlets cannot increase the chance of successfully cooking tuna. Or at level 33 you can go into the cooking guild and cook apple pies. The apples are in the cooking guild, and you can get wheat in a field just north of the guild. However, this method is more time-consuming than buying and cooking tuna. |
| 40 - 91 | Lobsters | Either buy raw lobsters from other players, or fish for your own to cook. Buying them is more advisable for faster levels, while fishing may be an alternative for poorer players. Players may wish to wait for level 74 or level 68 with cooking gauntlets before starting to cook lobsters, in order not to burn any. You can also, at 66 cooking, wear Cooking gauntlets and cook lobster at the lumbridge cook's range. Players can also trade cooked for raw. About 150k exp/hr by cooking lobsters. |
| 91- 94 | Monkfish | Either buy Raw Monkfish from other players or the Grand Exchange, or fish them yourself if you have completed the Swan Song quest. At level 91 you no longer burn monkfish, though unconfirmed reprts say otherwise and Cooking Gauntlets make no difference to the amount burnt. About 180k exp/hr by cooking monkfish. |
| 94 - 99 | Sharks | Either buy raw sharks from other players, or fish for your own to cook. Buying them is more advisable for faster levels, while fishing may be an alternative for poorer players. Players may wish wait for level 94 (with cooking gauntlets) before starting to cook sharks, in order not to burn any. Players can also trade cooked for raw. About 270k exp/hr with sharks. |

More Info
Edit
I have added lots of info, but more is still needed, mainly the member foods. --Richard1990 12:56, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Looks great, just baked potatoes that I can see are missing now.

Missing Foods
Edit
As mentioned earlier, there are missing foods on the list. I have spotted Dairy and Brewing...there could be more. -- Carralpha - The cook with a cape
Peaches and Bananas
Edit
Since the Food article is now no longer a list of all foods, where would these two go? Obviously they'll have articles of their own, as all items will, but...anywhere else?
It occurred to me while I was making the Bones to Peaches article; someone still needs to add the amount of HP a peach heals to there. Vimescarrot 14:13, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- A Miscellanious section - that's my idea -- Carralpha, the Cook with a Cape
Brewing Effects
Edit
In the Brewing section, the effects that the beers have (these effects are really more inportant than healing) are missing. I might sort that out, but if I dont, someone else should. -- Carralpha - The cook with a cape
- Sorry, I didn't see that the effects are in the Notes section, but I still think that they should be on a separate column, and I've noticed a couple effects are still missing. Also, I'm gonna find out the experience for the beer. Carralpha
- Okay, I've fixed the experience and the notes section -- Carralpha again
Cooking Gauntlets
Edit
This subject failed to mention that the cooking gauntlets do not help cooking on a range, but only on a fire, as mentioned in the first quest("Cooking Assistant")ranges provide better chances of not burning food, using cooking gauntlets on a fire produce the same effect. --Alex Power3 --
- Do you have proof that they don't help on a Range? JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 19:25, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- By "proof" you mean a place of origin on a fansite, offical fourms or acual runescape database.. No, but i have data that supports this. Also, ask people at rouges den, everone there says its true.--Alex Power3 --
- Hmm. If they really don't help cooking on a range, that would mean that even if a player was at 99 cooking, he would still burn sharks on a range. Maybe someone would like to try it out with couple hundreds or thousands? Lightz 01:41, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I have data that supports that it does help when cooking on a range. So...Ask Jagex. Oh, that's going to be me doing that then... JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 08:52, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I asked, and the Gauntlets do indeed help cooking on a Range. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 19:41, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

The cooking gauntlets improve on ranges and fires, except for the one in lumbridge castle, because it is improved from cooks assistant.
Malestro12:39, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Cooking guantlets do improve your cooking on fires as well as ranges, ive could thousands of sharks to get 99 cooking when you supposedly do not burn them with gaunlets. Not a single one burnt. This is simply a rumor. (Jdogy15 03:41, 18 August 2008 (UTC))
Stews
Edit
Under stews it says that you must add the spices before cooking, in the table this is untrue as you must cook it first in order to add the spices, even though there is a range right in his house so i could cook it. --Alex 18:36, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Fixed--Alex 17:47, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Pictures
Edit
in the table for the products of brewing, the pictures are blank, i guess it'll be my job to upload some pictures later. Also, the spicy stew picture is missing.--Alex 18:51, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Pizzas
Edit
I'm not sure about the experience you get for making a meat/anchovie/pineapple pizza, because you are supposed to coo the pizza (getting you xp) and then you add the extra topping (getting you more xp). I'm gonna check this stuff out. -- Carralpha 11:53, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
Are Monkfish affected by cooking gauntlets?
Edit
I don't think anyone really knows.
JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 23:29, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's even at the KB: http://kbase.runescape.com/lang/en/aff/runescape/viewarticle.ws?article_id=2191 also, no fansites list monkfish as affected by them anyway. 82.32.41.125 23:32, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- They didn't say specifically that they didn't work. And they seem to work for me. And the J-mods were annoying about it for like a week after the quest came out. Hmm... JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 00:31, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have gotten nearly 12 million experience from cooking Monkfish with gauntlets. I can firmly testify that they do make a difference. Themurasame Hiscores 21:10, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Chef's Hat
Edit
Does the chef's hat give a boost to cooking? I always use it in conjunction with cooking gauntlets. I am currently level 87 cooking but if I get to 93 then I can check if the chef's hat gives a +1 cooking level boost with sharks. I'll work on this but it may take a few weeks for an answer, so does anyone else know for sure?
- Jagex have never said they do, and it doesn't sound like something they'd keep secret. It also doesn't sound like something we'd never have heard of, considering I think it's one of the oldest items in the game. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 19:08, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- they do, but only when combined with a brown or white apron.
Make sense of this, please
Edit
I was just going through the cooking article, and found this recently added paragraph:
Some players like to buy raw lobster for 250 coins and sell there cooked lobs in free worlds for 250 coins though they do not usually all sell at once players will not lose a profit. Unlike members which cooked sells for 210 coins each.
It makes no sense at all. If I understood the meaning, I'd have tried to rewrite it, but I don't understand this at all. --Paania 08:25, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah it's nonsense. Just remove it.--Richard (Talk - Contribs) 12:52, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- I parse this as meaning that it is possible to buy bulk raw lobs (e.g. on RS forums) for around 250 coins each. After cooking the lobs, it is possible to sell them in bulk for around 210 coins. If you sell them in smaller volumes on f2p a selling price of 250 each is reasonable, although it requires more time to sell bulk volumes that way. It seems a reasonable way to train cooking in a break even manner. --Miw 13:10, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've deleted it. There must be countless "reasonable ways" to train cooking, and this doesn't stand out as particularly noteworthy. --Paania 07:22, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Well i got my cooking lvl up to 50 here from 46 or 47 but I spent 13k heres what I did.
I went to Kajama.
I brang a axe and a tinderbox plus 20k.I bought raw tuna from the general store becuase players sell there then I cooked and sold back so I didn't lose alot of money. should this method be added? --

cooking lobsters is not anymore the fastest way to raise your cooking. Monkfishes are.
Gettin 99

I wanna know, what would be faster to 99 cooking? Lobsters or Big net? I have 47 fishing at the time i wrote this. Also, can you leave some tips, it would be greatly appreciated.Never mind, got 53 fishing.

That would have been much more helpful here on the talk page than as an invisible comment in the article. Nevertheless, I have verified the in-game text, and corrected the article to match. :-) Leevclarke 00:12, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Does the Cooking guild range give the same bonus as Lumbridge range?
Edit
Jagex cleary states that the "magic" range in Lumbridge burns food less often. I see no such statement with regard to the Cooking guild range in the room with the bank. Anyone know? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lordbiggus (talk) on 21:34, February 17, 2009.
- Not a clue, I doubt it though. However it is almost definately the fastest way to cook range-only things (the exception being pies with the Bake Pie spell).

With some of the mature ales now selling for 50k+, I'm going to take a stab at separating out the Brewing section into its own article that will be linked to a brief summary here. Please let me know if any of you have objections or suggestions. --Farmyboy 22:29, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Guide
Edit
I noticed it didn't have a guide. I just made one that should be decent: guide. Dsctatom 01:24, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Someone should update the cooking article, please.
Edit
Can somebody please update the cooking article with the levels you stop burning different foods. It has already been done to most fish, but I need to know more. Thanks.
Cider Fermenting Time
Edit
Does anyone know the time that it takes for cider to ferment? Thanks in advance. -

vandalism
Edit
as far as i can tell at some point near when rocktail came out the shark training section was vandalized by someone wanting to sell rockfish the wording implys that it was originally written to reflect sharks i do not cook myself but if i am wrong and people actually train on rocktail at 94 then please re write that section rather than just undoing my revision.Duckersmash3 17:32, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
Salmon catch rates
Edit
I've been working on 99 fish. I checked the article on salmon and i believe that the catch rate (salmon and trout) may be wrong.
At the moment i have caught 2865 fish; 1208 are salmon, 1657 are trout.
This implies that just over 42% of fish caught are salmon which is fairly different than what the article says.
I know that its a relatively small sample but i thought I'd bring it to your attention.
If i remember then i will post again when i have about 100k fish with a potentially more accurate catch rate.
~crow4eva~
- Which page does it say what the burn rate is?? I can't find it.

Brewing time
Edit
I've removed this small section
"Note: Recently, ales may not be fermented even after 4–5 days, which maybe caused by a bug."
I've just had a ale that brewed for 5 days plus and it finally finished. Rent A Troop 01:58, February 1, 2010 (UTC)
edit made to plain pizza entry
Edit
The assertion that plain pizzas stop burning at 66 is total crap, so I removed it. I levelled from 67 to 68 mostly on plain pizzas, and burnt 6 of them out of a total of 374 attempts. I assume that they will stop burning altogether somewhere prior to 70 cooking, but honestly, the percentages are getting small enough that it will take several people going through the levels in question via pizzas to really be able to conclusively say what level they quit burning at. On the other hand, All 441 pizzas from 68 to 69 were cooked without a single burn.

"Power-Cooking"-Remove or rewrite
Edit
I added a {{NPOV}} because the article is written in an awful style. Not only is it not neutral, it also uses no alineas, making it almost impossible to read. I'm no expert writer, so can someone please edit this part, or remove it? 80.101.62.155 13:25, May 7, 2010 (UTC)
- I removed the article, but extracted a couple of useful tips from it and placed them accordingly within the rest of the page. However it was rather amusing to read, so I've preserved the deleted content here:
Power-Cooking While power-cooking, players don't speak to anyone and will have none of any sort of distraction. Power-training players are singularly focused on their goal, and simply ignoring anything happening around them, sometimes going so far as to turn the public message system into the off setting. As such, it is often a waste of breath to attempt to engage them. This is done because it reduces the time to cook things thus gaining cooking level up faster. Players take no breaks from this, so when they are done or fed up with cooking for a few hours, the player will simply log off. While power-cooking players do not drop burnt food, which would take many clicks, and instead simply bank them, eventually dropping all of them as one note. Since dropping individual items slows the player down, power-cooking or not, it is often avoided out of habit. The un-official power-cooking guild is located in the lobby of the Rogue's Den, underneath the bar in the city of Burthorpe. There is a permanent fire 1 to 6 squares away from an NPC banker. The banker is able to move around the Rogue's Den lobby, but he tends to stay in one place unless talked to. The banker's name is Emerald Benedict, but he is not labeled as a bank or banker. This is the shortest bank-to-fire distance in RuneScape. The shortest distance from a bank to a range is in the Cook's Guild, although the downside of this is that the player must have completed the whole of Varrock Achievement Diary (including all the hard tasks). Players normally buy raw fish in large quantities and cook them, then re-sell to the Grand Exchange for only a mild loss.

cooking animation
Edit
they changed the cooking animation (on the fire) someone add the new animation. Extreme133 16:10, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
What's wrong with the number of people with 99 cooking? ~50k? That's not possible.. just checked Runescape hiscores and the current # of people with 99 cooking as of right now is 208,950. If someone could fix it that'd be great because I don't know how.
Shouldn't there be a sous chef clothing section? You get it from the squeal of fortune and it gives a bonus in cooking xp.
