- Gold pieces was the proper way back in RSC, though. :) Oddlyoko 18:56, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Was gold pieces ever actual runescape terminology, or is that just a player introduced thing. I've always thought that we need to refer to Coins rather than Gold pieces, of which there seems to be no mention in the current game? --Eucarya 22:18, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- The dwarf who you buy ale yeast from in Kedlagrim refers to his payment as "25 GP". As far as I'm aware, this is the only use of GP in-game. Mebbe a "Trivia" section with this in...? 80.3.96.42 21:01, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

- There's a chance that it was never official, but I'll tell you this much: coins were referred to as GP for as long as I've been playing, and that goes back to 2001 or early 2002. I seem to remember it being used in game a lot back then however (by NPC's, examine info, etc). But I could easily be mistaken, that was a really long time ago.Endasil 03:30, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Suggestion, add images (or a composite image) of the piles of coins - Our own version of RHQ currency guide - It appears there are 10 possible images for a stack of coins, unless we discover others. Perhaps ours should be on a real background. Ace of Risk 22:08, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Inflation
Perhaps we should mention the value of the coin on this page. Hyenastetalk 22:50, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how we can reflect that. A coin is a coin is a coin, after all. Shadowdancer 02:21, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Links to the economy section or trade might give a hint of the changing value of currency in RuneScape. A coin is a coin, but purchasing power can and does shift.--Curmudgeony 03:36, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Source for the dwarf
I got the info about the dwarf's genetic obsession with gold from Mod Matt P.

[edit] New source for GP
From the new parent's guide in the Manual:
- RuneScape is a fantasy RPG. Although it is set in a fictional world, many aspects of the game are very familiar. Like the real world, RuneScape has an economy; players can buy and sell items from shops or trade with one another and can even dictate their own prices. The in-game currency is called GP (gold pieces) and allows players to purchase anything they might need to live within the gaming world. If their character loses health, they will need to eat and drink in order to replenish. If a player wants to attempt a more dangerous quest, then they will need better armour and supplies in order to succeed. They can even chop wood, smith nails and weave cloth in order to build and maintain their very own house.
Hmm... JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 18:56, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Note that on all postbag posts, [1], the stamp's pricing is in terms of gp, not coins. I think it's becoming more and more apparent that those that think that "GP" is the spawn of the devil just need to cool it and accept they were wrong...see also User:Endasil#GP vs. Coins Endasil 18:50, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- They say gp all the time in RuneScape Classic as well. Example: . It really doesn't matter. Dtm142 15:55, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I found another source of the term "GP". In RuneScape: The Official Handbook, there are a couple instances of this term.
On Page 11:
4. Sell Your Stuff. Just like the real world, money makes the RuneScape world go 'round. You can sell just about anything you catch or make to stores or other players. A good way to practice is to kill a chicken in Lumbridge. Chop down a tree, then cook the chicken over a fire. You can eat the cooked chicken of course, or you can sell it to the general store for 1 GP (or gold piece). It's not much, but you can kill and cook more chickens until the GPs add up, and you'll also get experience (known as XP, or experience points, in RuneScape talk)!
And the title of Section 8: More XP Equals More GPs.
10. Get to a Bank. If by some chance your character dies (and it probably will), don't freak out. You will end up in Lumbridge - but any GPs you were carrying will be gone. Keep most of your GPs in a bank and you will have something to fall back on in times of trouble. You can find a bank on the top floor of Lumbridge Castle. Zeldafanjtl 00:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Who the heck is stupid enough to drop 5k on accident?! Now, im not a mean person, I do nice things on runescape, for example, if I see someones pickaxe head fall off, then ill give it to them if i picked it up, but imo, if there stupid enough drop 5k (and keep in mind they have 1 min to pick it back up agian) then then they probably don't desirve it. [edit] Vandalism
This page seems to get a lot of attention from vandals. Is there a way to lock it from new users/unregistered users, like you can in Wikipedia? Endasil 03:47, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've seen it too. Quite annoying! I think it should be locked to unregistered/new users so they'll have to go vandalize something or somewhere else.

[edit] Coin spawns
What is the purpose of the coin spawn section? I have a feeling that this section has no real use...half of the places we're listing are so hard or expensive to get to, most players would be losing money by trying to get money there (ex using a 300ish gp law rune to get a few coins using telegrab). Is this supposed to be a money-making strategy? if so, it doesn't belong here, it belongs in the Money Making Guide. If not, then who really cares where this stuff respawns? Coin spawns are NOT a significant source of coins being introduced to Runescape (I'd hazard a guess that spawns contribute around a thousandth of a percent to the net coin count of RS, high alch, shops, and monster drops being the main sources).
