Tetsu equipment is a set of degradable melee armour and weapons unlocked via Player-owned ports. 85 Defence is required to wear the armour, and 85 Attack is required to wield the weapons. The armour can be made at 90 Smithing (and the weapons at 92 Smithing) in the port's workshop, which is not boostable. Plate is the trade good required for the armour's production, and the weapons also require pearls and a tengu tsuba.

The ideal adventurers to gather plate are The Whaler (Fishing) and The Memory (Divination), with The Biologist (Herblore) and The Exile (Dungeoneering) providing duo voyages for plate; pearls are best gathered by The Architect (Construction) and The Chef (Cooking). One tsuba is awarded from the Guardians of the World trio missions, and more are available from occasional standard voyages (provided maximum distance has been reached in ports, and The Shield is the focused region).

Before the armour can be made, the ability to make the pieces must be unlocked.  This is done by collecting 4 forgotten scrolls per part via scroll voyages in your port. A total of 12 scroll pieces are required to be able to craft the head, body, and leg pieces of the armour, and an additional 4 scroll pieces are needed to make the weapons. The (complete) scrolls for the gloves and boots are bought from the Ports Reward Shop (run by Boni on Waiko) for 2,500 chimes and 3 taijitu.

The armour comes in two versions, tradeable and untradeable ('superior'). The superior version has higher stats than the tradeable one, has 20% more charges of combat, and can be augmented. The superior version can be repaired, but the tradeable version cannot and will degrade to nothing. The weapons, gloves, and boots are exclusively non-tradeable.

Dying with tetsu equipment[]

Dying to an NPC simply drops it to the ground (or gravestone if outside the Wilderness) with 10% of its charge lost, or 20% charges for superior items. It can also be reclaimed from Death at a cost of 20% of its recharge cost (inferior 10% of Grand Exchange price).

Upon death in dangerous PvP, the inferior versions will drop as that item with the same amount of charge for the killer. The superior versions will be converted to the following regardless of charge:

Item Convert
Superior tetsu helm 750,000
Superior tetsu body 1,800,000
Superior tetsu platelegs 1,200,000
Superior tetsu kote 375,000
Superior tetsu kogake 375,000
Tetsu katana 2,500,000
Tetsu wakizashi 1,250,000

Weapons[]

Tetsu weapons degrade to broken after 30,000 charges of combat, and can be repaired for coins at a Repair NPC or armour stand, for trade goods at the anvil in the player-owned port, or with tengu tsubas.

Superior armour[]

Superior tetsu equipment degrades to broken after 72,000 charges of combat, and can be repaired for coins at a Repair NPC or armour stand, or for trade goods at the anvil in the player-owned port.

Wearing any four (or more) of a superior tetsu armour set (including augmented parts, but not weapons) grants a passive ability, Iron Fist, which gives an approximate 1/3,125 chance to obtain a ports resource crate when defeating an opponent.

Trivia[]

  • The name Tetsu is based on the Japanese character "鉄" (pronounced Tetsu), meaning "Iron".
  • Tetsu, along with Sea Singer armour and Death Lotus armour, received a graphical change on 14 January 2013. It has now a red and golden colour scheme, recoloured from the original teal.
    • The original look of the tetsu armour is available as the Gu ronin armour override, bought from Boni on Waiko.
  • Before the update on 7 January 2014, the Tetsu body and legs were known as the 'Tetsu Laminar' and 'Tetsu Legplates' in the Ports Management scrolls interface.
  • The armour set is designed to resemble traditional Japanese samurai armour.
