Spirit wolf chathead

A spirit wolf is a summonable familiar released with introduction of the Summoning skill.

It requires level 1 Summoning and can be used in Combat. It can deal a maximum of 40 life points of damage. Additionally, its Howl scroll can cause most monsters to retreat for a short distance, allowing just enough time for a player to escape. However, it has a low Constitution level, and is one of only a few Summoning familiars that can be poisoned. The Summoning skill logo appears to be a howling spirit wolf, and so the spirit wolf could be considered the skill's signature familiar.

Spirit wolf pouch[]

[view][talk]

A Spirit wolf pouch is used in the Summoning skill to summon a spirit wolf. It is made by using a Summoning pouch on a Summoning obelisk with 7 spirit shards, a gold charm and wolf bones in your inventory. It gives 4.8 Summoning experience when made, and 0.93 when used. Using this pouch on a Summoning obelisk will enable a player to create 10 howl scrolls. If players exchange their spirit wolf pouches at Bogrog, they will receive 5 spirit shards for each pouch.

Howl scroll[]

[view][talk]

The Howl scroll enables the use of the Howl power for a spirit wolf familiar. The howl scroll is made by using a spirit wolf pouch on a Summoning obelisk, providing 0.1 experience and 10 howl scrolls.

Howl

A player activates the scroll.

Howl[]

Howl is an effect generated via the howl scroll. In order to create this effect, a player must first have summoned a spirit wolf. Activating the Howl ability requires 3 special move points and provides 0.1 experience.

The Howl effect "scares" non-player opponents, causing them to retreat. However, this lasts for only a few seconds, and the opponent can easily come up and resume attacking again.

This does not work on other players, boss monsters, and some aggressive monsters. However, it does work against revenants, although the revenants can still retaliate with ranged and magic.

Trivia[]

  • The spirit wolf used to be used by player killers in the wilderness as a way to "skull" other players in the wilderness who would otherwise keep their items. This was done by using the anticipation ability to initiate combat, then commanding the spirit wolf to attack the victim. If the wolf does no damage and the victim has auto retaliate on, they will hit the wolf and get a skull.
