Spectral spirit shield detail

The Spectral spirit shield was released on 15 September 2008 along with Summer's End. It requires 75 Defence, 70 Prayer and 65 Magic to wield. The shield is made by attaching a Spectral sigil to a Blessed spirit shield. To do this, players need 90 Prayer and 85 Smithing. In addition, you must have completed Summer's End to make or wear the spectral spirit shield. Alternatively, Brother Bordiss can be asked to attach it for 1,500,000 coins after completing Perils of Ice Mountain. To enter and kill the Corporeal Beast for any sigil drops, Summer's End must be completed.

Compared to others

This shield is equivalent to an Arcane spirit shield, but instead of an offensive bonus of +20, it has a Magic bonus of +30. The other shields comparable to the Spectral spirit shield would be the Eagle-eye kiteshield, which has a Magic defence of +25, with a 14% damage absorption; and the Sacred clay shield (magic), with a magic defence bonus of +30 (equal to that of the spectral spirit shield). This shield is commonly used by wealthy players during Castle Wars and Tzhaar Fight Pits because of its extremely high magic defence. This shield is effective in the Armadyl boss chamber and when fighting Nex as it gives good protection against magic attacks, and is widely used among rangers when fighting the Corporeal Beast.

History

Corporeal Beast's Stomp Attack

Both the Grand Exchange and "street" prices of the Spectral Spirit Shield have been known to fluctuate. At the time of its release, the price of the Spectral Spirit Shield stabilised in the 40-50 million coins range and was known to be the least expensive of the 'enhanced' spirit shields. Due to the Corporeal Beast's stomp attack update on 15 October 2008, its price steadily rose to more than 150 million coins, after which it started to drop again. Since then the price has fallen back down to 6,603,973 coins.

Sacred Clay Shield (magic)

Sacred clay shield (magic) As of 23 August 2011 it is no longer the only shield with the best magical defence bonus (+30) , it is now tied with the Sacred clay shield (magic). Even though the Sacred Clay Shield has no prayer bonus and lower defensive bonuses against melee and ranged, and it is degradable, many players will find it convenient due to its low cost (200 stealing creation points) and because there are fewer requirements (65 Defence compared to the spectral shield's 75 Defence, 70 Prayer, 65 Magic, and completion of Summer's End). The Grand Exchange guide price of the spectral spirit shield was 45 million coins on the day of the release of the Sacred Clay Shield (magic), and it has been declining since.

Trivia

  • On 1 February 2010, the spirit shields appearances were changed to match their inventory pictures, which were updated on 11 January. The Spectral spirit shield's colour was changed into a vibrant indigo from a pale bluish purple. Previously the Elysian spirit shield and Spectral spirit shield were close to same shade of blue.
  • It bears +5 better magic defence than the Eagle-Eye Kiteshield, and is currently the best off handed object to give magic defence.
