A small recharge gem is an item won from the Squeal of Fortune that can be used to recharge any skill set item or non-prized pendant of Skill. They are awarded in a set of five.
As of 4 December 2012, winning all 25 normal skill pendants is not a requirement to unlock small recharge gems, but doing so replaces slots containing normal pendants.
To recharge an item using the gem, players must use the gem on the item or vice versa. These can only be used on pendants depleted after 13 November 2012; any pendants depleted previously and turned into depleted pendants cannot be recharged.
Each skill set item, for example, an Artisan's Bandana, will regain 24 hours of charge for a single gem. Some players opt to save gems by using only one on each item in the set and then training with that skill set intensively for the next 24 hours (i.e. if you have the full Botanist's, Blacksmith's, etc. you can get a 24 hour 5% XP bonus by using 5 small recharge gems).
For pendants, it will take 10 gems to recharge a normal pendant to its fully charged state. This has to be done all at once - there is no way to partially recharge it. This item is unable to recharge prized pendants of skill.
Unless planning to train one particular skill a lot during the coming 24 hours it is generally best to use the gems on a pendant. For example, you'd need to obtain at least 489720 experience in a single day to make an outfit more efficient than a pendant.
